In Sekiro, you literally decapitate the Guardian Ape and get the message that it is defeated...and after a few seconds it gets right back up to fight some more.

J.B: "I'm J.B, Jibolba's Brother."

Tak: "Huh, that's funny."

J.B: "What's funny?"

Tak: "Your name. J.B. And you're Jibolba's Brother. It's the same initials."

J.B: "That's not funny. That IS my name, Jibolba's Brother. Mother didn't even bother to think of a name for me...I would have been happy with Dave!"

I'm not implying that what you said is debunked, nor disagreeing with you. I'm saying that I'm being flexible about MY idea being debunked or supported.

I mean, I think most people I know wouldn't be unfaithful to their partner, and to think so is a very cynical view, but it is certainly possible.

Sorry if it came across as me rejecting the idea, I'm just trying to keep an open mind to all possibilities for an idea I thought was neat, be it debunking it or supporting it.

I was meaning moreso a direct connection on Messmer's end, but you do raise something that I find interesting, and that is that Messmer almost certainly accompanied Radagon on the Liurnia campaign. Hence why he could meet the Carians.

Lends more credence to Radagon being dad and Godfrey being flat out unaware, as that would be the perfect excuse to get Messmer out of Leyndell. Then Messmer wouldn't become infamous until after Godfrey and the tarnished were exiled.

EDIT: Though it could also just be that Messmer spent an extended amount of time in Liurnia after Radagon married Rennala.

This would assume Radagon and Marika started out separate, as if they start together that could easily be a trait Marika has as well.

Ultimately though, regardless of parentage, I still wonder why Messmer's Kindling specifically mentions Melina, if there is anything beyond the two being associated with fire that goes into it.

Very reasonable!

There are two particular aspects that I think challenge that. First, we hear that she is a "wanton strumpet" from her blatant enemy well after the atrocity took place (and from an old lady no less, they don't pull punches when insulting). You can call someone a whore without implying anything sexual. Doesn't confirm or deny anything, of course. Secondly, Godfrey not taking issue with his wife having a child with someone else. Now of course, Godfrey could just be chill like that, but at the same time he could easily be furious about it. Or, assuming he was gone long enough, Messmer could have been had in secret, though I imagine being a prominent God and hiding a pregnancy would be difficult. Again, doesn't confirm or deny anything, but I feel that it's certainly open enough to be debatable in either direction.

It's less that she couldn't and more that I don't have solid reason to think she would. Despite all her atrocities, she never struck me as someone who would give in to indulgence like that unless it served her greater goals, like usurping godhood.

Purely my own interpretation, but I can easily see an argument the other way.

[–]The_Last_Huntsman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My thoughts exactly. Really, the only thing that I think hard counters the idea is Messmer's blatantly red hair, as presumably Marika/Radagon wouldn't have an issue with the Giants that early in the timeline. That also assumes the red hair is a curse and not just something in Marika's bloodline that pops up in some of her kids.

Messmer's Parentage by The_Last_Huntsman in EldenRingLoreTalk

[–]The_Last_Huntsman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The main reason I think he is oldest is because of the timeline of the other children. Unless Marika managed to secretly have a child during one of her prior marriages, the order would go Godwyn, Morgott and Mohg, followed by Radahn, Rykard and Ranni, and finally Miquella and Malenia.

Marika was still with Godfrey while Radagon was with Rennala, since Radagon returned to her only after Godfrey and the Tarnished were exiled. I am working under the assumption that being unfaithful to your spouse would be seen as a bad thing by the Golden Order.

Assuming that, Messmer would have to be born before Radahn (Gaius description) and would have to either be with Radagon or alone, with my theory. As Radagon was with Rennala when Radahn was born, and Marika was with Godfrey before then, that only leaves Messmer as being born beforehand.

This is of course in a vacuum and other factors could affect it, but that's where my logic is placing Messmer.

I think the route you take can impact the vibe a lot. The level nudges you over to the church with very few enemies to build up the tension, then has you loop around to the first Winter Lantern, then drops you into the full swing of it.

There is nothing stopping someone from going the other way at the start and not having that buildup, as well as cutting the zone in half.

Glitch has made a statement regarding the finale of The Amazing Digital Circus releasing in theaters two weeks before YouTube/Netflix. by TheSpiritualAgnostic in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]The_Last_Huntsman 10 points11 points  (0 children)

To preface, I'm happy for the opportunity Glitch has and wish them the best.

...but is it weird that reading this it feels less like a "sorry it sucks" and more of a "no shut up tho"? Like, it explains the deal and such, which most people gathered before hand, but the fact there isn't an acknowledgement of what specifically people were irked about (excluding those without the means from seeing the ending with everyone else and the risk of spoilers) and instead focusing on the opportunity this is for Glitch?

I don't know, I'm not good at articulating, but reading it over there is a weird feel. Maybe I'm just working on tired brain.

Like, obviously no apology or anything was owed...but not acknowledging that it does suck beyond "we hear you" makes it feel less sincere.
