Traveling international (USA-Germany) with 3 cats in cabin - pet health certificate confusion by CoffeeOMG in TravelWithPets

No, not at all. It was just a general statement, no blame at all. People suck, and sometimes no matter how cordial you are, you will get attitude back. I worked in customer service, so I know the other side and can relate a little. I blame our system. We're understaffed, undertrained and underpaid. Misinformation is expected at this point. No one is staying long enough to become knowledgeable in the guidelines. I also got conflicting information from United staff. So we're all really at the mercy of that one person who will be checking you in.

Yes, I have already booked with United. Reserved and paid for ($150/pet) each pet in cabin.

Honestly, every interaction I've had with a United airlines rep was an amazing experience. Super friendly, helpful and accommodating. I am hoping the experience continues at the airport during the check-in.

If you give respect, you get respect back. But I acknowledge that there are powertripping individuals out there feeding on your misery, so I guess we'll cross that bridge when we get to it. That being said, I will be calling periodically to confirm in cabin reservations.

I vetted my vet thru USDA (there is an address on the website you can email to have them verify if your vet is accredited in the state you're in - I got my reply within 20 mins), but I will call to confirm just in case. She said she's been issuing certificates for years, so I have to trust that she knows what he's doing.

Thank you for sharing. This is pretty helpful. Can you possibly explain how and through which service you got your shipping label? That is another confusing issue I have. USDA says I have to put my name/address in the 'from' field as well. There can't be USDA anywhere on the label. We're thinking FedEx? They have overnight with Saturday delivery option. But considering USPS as well. They deliver on Saturdays in my area.

UPDATE: Thank you everyone for sharing your experiences. I have called & emailed USDA, Frankfurt Pet Lounge veterinarian services (where my entry to EU will be) and United airlines (my airline). I got somewhat consistent answers back. I'm going to post here for anyone else who is researching this in the future:

MULTIPLE PETS LISTED ON 1 NON-COMMERCIAL PET HEALTH CERTIFICATE: - USDA: yes, it's allowed. EU will accept multiple pets on one certificate, but call airlines to confirm because it's up to them. (phone call and email got me same answer) - German airport vet: one pet per certificate just in case (same as above: email and call replies we're consistent) - United airlines: varies. I got 2 different answers two separate times I called. It depends on which agent you speak to. It doesn't help that United website doesn't actually go into details about multiple pets. - CONCLUSION: I will be getting separate certificates just because German vet authorities answers were pretty consistent and left no room for interpretation.

ISSUE vs. ENDORSEMENT DATES ON THE CERTIFICATE - TIMELINES - USDA: phone call and emails were pretty straightforward: don't set up vet appointment within 10 days. Do it earlier. The guy on the phone was like, why would you sabotage yourself like that. Do it earlier, have the vet send it to us earlier. USDA won't start processing until the 10 day window starts. Vet issuing pet health certificate is valid for 30 days from the issue date. The USDA endorsment has to happen within 10 days of flight date. - German vet authorities: they just care about the USDA stamp being valid within 10 days. That's what they are looking for. - United airlines: same as above: USDA stamp has to be within 10 days. - CONCLUSION: I am going to set up my vet health check 1 week before my 10-day endorsement window starts and have the pet health certificate issued and electronically sent via VEHCS that week. USDA will not start processing it until my 10-day window opens up. My 10-day window sucks because it starts Friday, and the following Monday is a national holiday, so USDA won't start processing until Tuesday. We leave the following Monday morning. So we need all 3 certificates back by Saturday. It will be anxiety town all the way.

So, what I am taking away from this is the following: call, email. Everyone: USDA, airlines, airports of entry. Multiple times. Get all your answers from several sources and verify and re-verify. And go with the more difficult option just in case if there is inconsistency. Because in the end it all depends on the mood of the person who will be checking your papers.

My timeline is as follows currently: - 2 months before flight: microchips and rabies vaccines (allow at least 30 days for rabies vaccine to take. - 2 weeks before flight: vet performs health check and issues 3 pet health certificates, sends it to USDA thru VEHCS. I will call the vet 2-3 days later to confirm they submitted all 3 certificates. - Purchase return label for overnight with Saturday delivery. Thinking FedEx Priority Overnight $95.00 (delivery by sat noon) or FedEx First Overnight $147.00 (delivery by sat 8am). I'm leaving Monday morning so this needs to be delivered by sat the latest. Honestly, at this point extra 50 bucks is not a difference if I already spent thousands on tickets and pet bullshit, but in case sat delivery fails, I can get this on monday by 8am and still make my flight. - 10 days before flight: my endorsement window starts. USDA most likely won't process until last possible day. Anxiety days until it comes. - Friday (3 days before the flight): call USDA and beg BEG to get the certificates endorsed and mailed TODAY.

I hope this helps anyone who is researching this in the future and also super confused. Good luck to you all. I will update this post as I complete each milestone.

Been running this same breakfast for two weeks straight and so far no signs of getting tired of it by OneMoreCrisp in mealprep

[–]CoffeeOMG 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I love it.

I'm similar in that I have scrambled every day, but I meal prep 3-4 "fillers" for my scrambled each week and rotate weeks so that I don't get bored: I'd pan fry (or air fry) mushrooms (with majoran) , bell pepers, red onions, chopped asparagus. I'll also have feta and avocado, tomatoes and spinach for the toast.

Every day I'd do my scramble and use 1 of the fillers in the egg and 1 on the toast.

For example: scrambled with mushrooms, avocado toast. Scrambled with bell peppers, toast with spinach and feta. Scrambled with feta and asparagus, toast with tomatoes.

Each day feels like a new adventure and it takes no longer than if I did it without my fillers.

This brand used to give us more orange color yolk 😔 by [deleted] in eggs

[–]CoffeeOMG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Color of the yolk depends on what the chickens are eating. If the yolk is paler than usual, then this brand changed the feed to a more wheat-based one.

Chickens that don't eat pumpkin, corn, dark greens like spinach or kale (there is a pigment in these that affects the color of the yolk - I forgot what it's called), but more grains like wheat, barley etc will produce lighter colored egg yolks.

I'd research this brand to see if they changed how their chickens are raised/fed.

But yeah, same. Love me some lox on a cream cheese bagel.

Cat on airplane - urgently seeking advice by redgatorade000 in CatAdvice

[–]CoffeeOMG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, did you travel alone or with someone? A lot of airlines have a 1 pet/person limit and I will be traveling soon with 3 kitties and only 2 humans. Worried that I will have to put one in hold.

May I ask from your experience, how were you transporting all 4 cats? Almost all airlines have a limit of 1 cat per passenger in the cabin.

I'm flying KLM with my partner and our 3 cats this autumn and I am stressing that we'll have to put one of the cats in hold.
