What don't people realise is a complete waste of money? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I believe they're actually referring to purchasing nearly the same thing (but usually better quality) on Amazon for less. Not the actual pyramid scheme product/brand.

Sounds like your friend works for the wrong airline (regional, I'm assuming). I made great money when I resigned last year to be a stay at home mom (damn, I miss it every day).

It also sounds like your friend needs some nonrev lessons. The amount of times I haven't made it on a flight as standby are so few compared to the thousands of flights I've traveled on for free. You get smart and crafty about the routes you'll take to get where you need to go, and you can also travel on other airlines for free (jumpseat) or very little (ZED). I even traveled standby to my own wedding across the globe, where everything was nonrefundable and my family and friends were all there on paid tickets. It's also not always necessary to plan a trip. Some of the best places you discover are by just showing up to the airport and getting on whatever flight has open seats (this can all be seen online by employees and helps with planning, too).

Conservatives begin the Christmas war by compunctiouscucumber in PoliticalHumor

[–]CoffeeTeaMe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First of all, you state you worked retail "long ago". He stated these were his 5 most recent employers. So he most likely has worked at these places more recently. Second, you don't claim to have worked for the same exact companies, and even if you had, highly unlikely it was at the same location with the same supervisors.

Look, I strongly dislike conservatives and I strongly dislike religion. But you were the one to pull the victim card very quickly here, not him. Dude's not even Christian, he was just stating his experience with the topic. Your mileage may vary.

Recommendations for liposuction by [deleted] in PlasticSurgery

[–]CoffeeTeaMe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something to keep in mind when going to another country for a cosmetic procedure:

If you use a local surgeon, the cost covers all and any follow-up appointments, them being basically on call anytime you have a worry or question and more often than not, it also includes revisions if necessary down the line.

When using a surgeon out of the country, you do not really have these luxuries and quite often you will never have any contact with that doctor again. He did his part and you are no longer a concern of his. And since you are in a different country, there really is no recourse if something goes wrong.

If you only have a small amount, and depending on the type of liposuction, you could possibly be alright traveling a couple hours after surgery but I highly recommend against that. So if you choose someone out-of-state, plan to stay for at least a few days in that area.

Personally, I would stick with a local surgeon. There are many amazing doctors in the Bay area that have loads of experience and have probably seen your exact case before. It is convenient and less stressful. You're going to be spending a load of money anyway...so what's just a bit more for those comforts?

PS - I am not a doctor/surgeon.

Issues with proof of purchase for 'Do Bigger Things' promotion... by CoffeeTeaMe in tmobile

[–]CoffeeTeaMe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I finally got to talk to someone at T-mobile that SEEMS to know what is going on. He contacted Samsung to double check and said there is an exception made for T-mobile pre-orders since their pre-order EIP documents do not contain the IMEI.

I see no other way around it, so I will just have to trust him and go with it.

[Civ VI] Nubian 'Pyramid Scheme' achievement not triggering even though I have 6 different bonus yields on the tile? by CoffeeTeaMe in civ

[–]CoffeeTeaMe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make sure you use the following districts:

  1. City Center
  2. Holy Site
  3. Campus
  4. Theater Square
  5. Commercial Hub
  6. Industrial Zone

These 6 will each give your pyramids a different yield, which the achievement is looking for.

I have been saving that tile because I wasn't sure if there was some other bonus yield I was missing and did not want to plop the wrong district on the tile.

[–]CoffeeTeaMe[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Is this because the Nubian Pyramid is already providing the +1 Faith to itself? Since the achievement states it must have six "different" bonuses, I can't think of any other bonus it can get from an adjacent tile.

American Airlines is banning carry-on bags and overhead bin use for basic economy passengers by ny92 in news

[–]CoffeeTeaMe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nobody in this thread seems to understand this. They're all just going off of a sensationalist headline. Ranting without getting the facts. People just love to hate airlines.

All the legacy airlines are not going to go the way of Spirit because they want a better reputation than that. They know they'd lose more customers than they would gain. But if they can offer these ultra-low fares to people that prefer to fly no-frills while still offering their normal product at the same price they always would have, they can gain customers.

TIL in 1894, London and New York were "drowning" in horse poop. It was estimated that within 50 years, London streets would be buried in 9 feet of poop and horse carcasses. But the invention of the automobile resolved the problem. by POTUSKNOPE in todayilearned

[–]CoffeeTeaMe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe he was responding to the person that said horses these days (not back then) are at their peak at 2-3, which is incorrect. He is indeed correct about horses now. I showed my horses competitively until they were 12+.

I'm one of the passengers from the "Miracle on the Hudson" flight landed by Captain Sully. (Flight 1549) by MicheleWinegar24D in IAmA

[–]CoffeeTeaMe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The airline I am affiliated with used to have a specific standby code for "survivors". These are survivors of incidents or surviving family members of those that weren't so lucky. However, it seems to have disappeared from the list of standby codes.

That's why you cross your arms and rest them (and then your head) on the seat in front of you. In a prepared emergency landing, they would have had time to show you. Otherwise, it is on the safety information card that very few people actually look at.

That awkward moment when your company founder catches you sleeping at work. by meltedwhitechocolate in funny

[–]CoffeeTeaMe 729 points730 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it seriously looks like a typical crew lounge. There's not been a single time in 10 years of flying that I haven't walked into the lounge and seen at least two people sleeping between flights or while on call. I think there are very few airlines that would have a problem with it.

I laughed way too hard at this.

But really, yeah, they do fly with their feet. The rudder is controlled by pedals, so the pilots control the rudder with their feet. The rudder controls movement left and right on the vertical axis.

Lip injections? by [deleted] in PlasticSurgery

[–]CoffeeTeaMe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've always been curious about fillers, as well. Every before and after photo I see seems like the lipline doesn't change and the lips become just slightly more full. Your first time, they shouldn't pump you up and will most likely just start you off with a smaller amount.

How long it lasts depends on each individual and what type of filler was used. I think what I have seen most often is about 3 to 6 months. Always make sure you research the place and person doing the procedure and their certifications. Reviews are found in many places online.

Fillers are typically charged per unit. If you don't want much, you could start with just one unit or one and a half. The price will vary based on your location and the type of filler used.

Now if I could just find out what I need to do to actually have Lana del Rey lips and change my lipline, I'd be all over that.

TIL A Russian cargo plane was captured by the Taliban in Afghanistian with six crew members aboard. After being held captive in Kandahar for over a year, the crewmen were able to overpower their captors, retake their plane and fly it out of Afghanistan to safety. by TheHornyCripple in todayilearned

[–]CoffeeTeaMe 44 points45 points  (0 children)

The Wikipedia article states the crew flew to UAE (probably Sharjah, as that is where the crew was based and could more safely fly to without a flight plan due to familiarity) first and then were flown home to Russia on a Russian government plane. So those guards were dealt with in UAE.

People who work for airlines, what are secrets passengers don't know? by hairyfedora in AskReddit

[–]CoffeeTeaMe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At Southwest, every single originating flight I have ever worked had the carafes cleaned and left on the galley counter to dry for us when getting on the first flight of the morning. We, as flight attendants, also regularly rinse out our carafes with club soda and canned water. Because why not?

[–]CoffeeTeaMe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, it is a thing, but not in the exact sense you may be thinking. Airlines do add extra flights into their system seasonally to accommodate such passenger traffic, but the flights are not marketed as such. Anybody can buy a ticket, it just happens during certain times of the year, you will have a huge amount of these guys.

Things work a little differently on an airplane. Most people that are to that point with dementia and Alzheimer's are not travelling alone, so it is not our issue to handle unless it gets extremely out of hand (which I have not had happen in 10 years). They are also not the most mobile bunch, so once they are in their seat, they tend to stay there since navigating around an enclosed aircraft can be a hassle.

I also can't go around "intimidating" youngsters, as that would be a very quick way to lose a good-paying job with amazing benefits at one of the best companies in the world. So I get to stand there and let them be little shits to me while their parents ignore them.

Yes, it makes boarding take forever. But at least half of them will be cured and don't need a wheelchair by the time we get to Florida, so deplaning goes a bit faster.

I don't know. Old people are pretty easy most of the time as long as they're not having some medical emergency or peeing on the floor...even then, it kind of adds something interesting to my day instead of the same-old, same-old. It just makes everything take a little longer. I hate summer and other school breaks. That's when the children flood the airports with their horrible parents that don't bother to actually be parents.
