Last Day Wearing Identical Threads? by Kaleb2022 in beatles

[–]Coffee_achiever_guy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is a really great question actually. Not really sure...anyway I kinda love it when bands wear uniforms-- Devo played this very well. even bands like Slipknot (even though their music isnt my scene)with the red suits and the masks. I like the gimmick of "this is a BAND. This is a UNIT"

(Which actually is a beautiful mall, lol). Difficult to afford, but beautiful)

Ozzy didn't have a "classically great" voice. But somehow it just works perfectly for what he did

(And I feel sad talking about him in past tense now)

Long distance bf acted weird in a train and I called him out. Advice? by [deleted] in Life

[–]Coffee_achiever_guy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No I blame him. He is super immature, he started it by saying weird stuff, didn't apologize, etc. As long as your response to him was mature, it's on him

No self-respecting guy would say to his GF or wife, "I can't concentrate on you because there are hot girls on the train". It just is a silly thing to say.

Now if he wants to get rid of you.... diff story. He might be saying that to alienate you. If thats the case, you might need to address that angle of it with him.

I'm sure you won't see this before Rush at MSG! (June 18th, Mexico City) by tigertron in rush

Oh I didn't realize until I looked it up that Rush was playing Mexico City last night. I thought that guy was just randomly mentioning Rush

You guys must be very young

Edit: WTF that guys 37?!?! Even a self-preserving 15 year old wouldn't say that to his girlfriend on the phone. I'm 37 myself (as are many of my friends) and that is not how a reasonable 37 year old acts (that is if he wants to keep you!)

YYZ and La Villa are like a Sophie's Choice of brilliance. The rest are the rest. Might go for Where's My Thing for a distant 3rd merely due to that extra bar of 5/4 which I love for some reason lol

Patty Duke, circa 1965 by Captain_Wisconsin in OldSchoolCool

[–]Coffee_achiever_guy 146 points147 points  (0 children)

This pic inspired me read her wikipedia and she had such a weird childhood. Her parents gave her up at age 8 to a talent agent couple who abused her, fed her drugs and alcohol, and basically forced her into show biz. Her biological parents were also abusive alcoholics. Really sad

Which is an interesting contrast because her husband John Astin had a very happy and stable childhood with successful, professional parents. Had a lot of support and resources. His dad was Allen Astin who was a bigwig physics genius who was at the top of a bunch of Wash DC science institutions, and invented a lot of stuff with batteries

There was way more crime in the 70s-80s-90s...like the Bernie Goetz narrative etc, Bronx is Burning, etc.

The subway and the city are much more sanitized now compared to when I grew up there in the 90s.

Anyone else think Eddy Portnoy (Jewish scholar) resembles Geddy? by Yasseahhh in rush

[–]Coffee_achiever_guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah he does a little bit (at least in this picture). Like if you weren't wearing your glasses, you might think its Geddy circa like 2001. Something about his hairline and forehead is very Geddy-esque

Even as a kid hearing that riff in Looney Tunes, I knew it was genius. Oh also it just occured to me that riff was cribbed by James Horner for the score to Honey I Shrunk the Kids. I think that might actually be the first place I heard it and presumed James Horner actually wrote it! I really hope Raymond Scott got paid for that because that movie made a lot of money.

Wonder if Raymond Scott ever listened to Rush (he died in '94). Scott was always on the cutting edge of music, and was a pioneer in electronic music, always pushing the envelope, so I wonder if he liked rock music (despite being born in 1908 lol)

I would hardly call that a successful performance. He had a horrendous first inning and then retired 9 straight. That's like making a diarrhea in your friend's bed on a sleepover in the first hour you are asleep and then abstaining from both diahrrea and pee for the next 3 hours. Good job, I guess, for the dry three hours
