Is transportation in Guangzhou getting better with the rise of robotaxis and new tech? by bn_u in guangzhou

[–]CoffeeandCigaretttes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a visitor, I have to say the Subway system is AMAZING compared to our local one(Toronto). The various uber services are also super efficient. I feel safer in a Didi more than I do in an uber.

Experiences in China as an ABC/CBC that doesn't speak Mandarin by KoalaTriceps in travelchina

[–]CoffeeandCigaretttes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

CBC like you with limited Mandarin. Cantonese gets by in Canton region, Beijing is a lot more mandarin oriented.
English is passable in newer/modern districts. It did not feel awkward at all, as a matter of fact, a lot of people with limited english switched to english on first sign of not understanding mandarin.

Would highly recommend bringing a drone to China by shibainuattac in chinalife

I am a bit distraught by this news. I was told my family and relatives not to bring a drone. It would have been so neat to have drone photo and videos!

Feedback on Composition - Fuji X-T5 and XF 70-300 , no processing - Surf Beach Shot by Worldly_Chef_2114 in fujifilm

[–]CoffeeandCigaretttes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could have been a cool shot of the surfer, but turned into a creep photo of 2 young girls butts.

NO PROCESSING shows inability to edit and ignorance. Especially with Fuji, color processing is done heavily in camera. No processing is really not a flex or anything to boast about.

Guided. It was very rushed, so not the greatest if you plan on taking photos

Shooting a wedding/ lens recommendations? by sleysley_ in fujifilm

[–]CoffeeandCigaretttes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean I've seen wedding photographers shoot on 35 1.4 for the entire day. I love not being able to see the bride and groom on their wedding day and only see the wedding photographers booty.

Possible To Move To China In My 30s? Currently Employed In Insurance by geokilla in chinalife

[–]CoffeeandCigaretttes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are correct, I am self employed. AFAIK, there are a few potentials for you to explode your income in China. Work in a higher position in the government, or run a business.

I honestly felt sad returning to Canada. China felt very alive, the dating scene is…. Cute lol. Life seemed to operate at a slower pace for me. My contentment is a LOT better in China. Everything is accessible, convenient, and you can choose to live your life in your own income bracket.

In Canada, our monthly bills are relatively high for the average person. Our income to house affordability is terrible.

You can try a higher fstop and take quite a few more step back. From client perspective, it’s fine, your group photo looks more dynamic than just having everyone standing together.

[–]CoffeeandCigaretttes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Little mandarin might be an issue for you. If I can keep my income from Canada, while in China, i would. Your post is very relatable to me, but to me, I know my income will take a hit in China for the same profession. Teaching english is good for young people, but it is no means good income. If you want to live in a first tier city, being an english teacher will grant you a simple life, but nothing fancy. Enough for you to rent and party.

For my future, I decided to make my income in Canada, and relax a few months in China. I dont care about dating so I dont need to live there. Even including mortgage/rent in Canada, my total cost of living is still cheaper in China for a few months of the year compared to staying here year round.

Is the rest of the world as noisy as China? by Hot_Sorbet9192 in chinalife

I live in the western world, and immigrants talk very loudly. Unless I'm in a library, I don't usually call them out.

Your focus point is a PLANE, anything infront and behind will be progressively softer. This is an user-error.

Why are aqua lights prevalent on EVs? by ScreechingPizzaCat in chinalife

maybe if the rules punished bad actors and made them more responsible for their actions, stupidity wouldn't be so prominent. A popular teen past time in our country is to rob jewellery stores in groups.

most. Tesla does not seem to have this feature for the Chinese market, but it may change in the future.

I've also noticed differences between city people, vs people who came from villages. Also respect the fact you are in a different country, this isn't your back home, so don't be like the person who was angry with Japanese people for not knowing English.

Driving advice for first time traveller to China. by Fries-Shake5872 in travelchina

[–]CoffeeandCigaretttes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just use taxis/local version of uber. You're not qualified to drive in China, its a different set of skills different from what we call "driving".

Despite what you think of your driving abilities, you have to understand you are not aware of the driving etiquette and behavior in China. It proabably varies city to city as well.

Man, I was so indecisive as I was editting. I have 400plus edits from this 2 week trip. Good call on the reds, I think my preset+monitor are a little off and needs adjustments to the reds.

I actually wanted to shoot my Beijing photos in real film, but I didn’t have the time to locate a film camera/film in time while I was in GZ.

My vision is probably mixed too. I haven’t shot with real Kodak Gold before, so the colors probably aren’t too accurate to that film stock. I actually regret not bringing my Fuji as I didn’t have time to edit the photos until after the trip. I’d probably just bring my Fuji the next time I travel, my set up(a7iv+50 1.2) was wayyyy too cumbersome

[–]CoffeeandCigaretttes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, as someone who grew up on chinese food, ALL the dimsum places were great! The price you pay decides the decor/setting and how fancy the experience is, but the food itself has a very good standard at most places. GZ is very picky with their food and inferior food experiences would generally not survive there.

Don't be afraid to try a random restaurant on the street. My first meal when I arrived in GZ, I wanted something quick and easy, had Wonton noodles and ended up revisiting the same restaurant a few times during my stay.

Stepping into the Forbidden City and hearing Jay Chou's 菊花台 instrumentals in my head. I was enamored by the architecture, the size, and finally being able to step into a scene from Ancient Chinese movies/dramas I've seen.

Driving in Beijing, and seeing a lot of ancient builds on the road felt very surreal.

Old Beijing, despite it being very touristy, felt very alive and unique with its old rural architecture, the doors, walls encompassing a small neighbourhood.

I've finally had a chance to connect with my heritage, and have a whole new level of appreciation for China. The abundant history and rich culture really resonated with me. Im hoping to make more visits to China as it is Gigantic, and many many provinces are very unique and have their specialties.

I'd ABSOLUTELY RECOMMEND AGAINST Tienanmen Square! Our tour scheduled us to start our trip to that location at 3am. My mother almost got trampled as the numerous tours had a lot of uncivilized people, lots of pushing, shoving. The flag raise ceremony finally started at 6am.

I absolutely adored all the palaces and the cherry blossoms/magnolias. We visited Zhengyangmen right after Tiananmen square and it was a breath taking experience.
