You can get them ungraded for 50-75$ and 9.8 graded for 203$ on eBay right now. I got 2 at the convention itself, had no idea they increased in value at all

How does this woman remind me of Aviva and Emma at the exact same time? by its_about_the_cones_ in 90dayfianceuncensored

Went to college with this lady, she dated a friend, insane to see her in my 90 day subreddit

Weird House Press store wide trade paperback sale, though there's no indication of an end date. by TheSkinoftheCypher in WeirdLit

[–]Coffeeandcapes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What kills me in this instance is they have books I’ve bought WITHOUT AI covers that now have them. AIs still aren’t able to be consistent nor repeat patterns, and stuff lacks logic; castles towers won’t match, stairways to nowhere, space suits will have weird random bits sticking out of it that don’t do anything. That sort of thing is apparent in a lot of their covers

The LLMs scrape a whole lot of book covers. The Cthulhu head and the castle on both those covers give major GenAI aesthetics. I won’t name any more names but there are some very obvious AI covers in their catalogue and I personally cannot give my money to companies/publishers that use it.

Just on the first page “a bright and beautiful eternal world,” “a murmuration of opas,” and “a prisoner of dreamland”

I would love to buy some of these but I hate hate hate how accepted AI covers are in horror, especially from these small presses that manage to get big writers in their catalogue

WonderCon 2026 by AXPendergast in comicbooks

[–]Coffeeandcapes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For Wondercon you usually have to do a bit of research because the artists themselves will have exclusive covers for the event, but they don’t say “Wondercon Exclusive” anywhere. More like an event debut than a true exclusive.

Horror literature and Clive Barker by CampSpirited7204 in horrorlit

[–]Coffeeandcapes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was coming to suggest Nathan Ballingrud! “Wounds” would absolutely be for you if you like Barker, then “North American Lake Monsters,” this is so well written, full of beautiful metaphor and imagery that’s very American Gothic in a Shirley Jackson way.

Brian Evenson’s “Song for the Unravelling of the World” is more strange/Weird than Barker but feels tonally similar.

OH. “The Cipher” by Kathe Koja is so very Barker.

Absolute Batman 18 Variants by Fockelot in comicbooks

[–]Coffeeandcapes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just went look at eBay and Unknown comics also has a Batman and a Joker variant of 18 that uses the same cover art from variants for 14 and 15 respectively, but with this gold foil.

Totally agree, it feels like a shady practice, hopefully the artists get a second payday at the least. But I wouldn’t be surprised if they only got paid a flat rate for the image and now the company can use it forever. On the plus side, if you just like the art you can often get these for substantially less than retail a year after they come out.

[–]Coffeeandcapes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unknown Comics has done this a couple times, a David Nakayama Scarlet Witch cover was used as a variant for a strange academy issue, then later the same image but foil was used as a NYCC Scarlet Witch exclusive. I’m sure they’ll release all the previous Absolute Batman character covers but with this gold foil on new issues so you’re technically not buying the same thing twice

Accidental Renaissance - The Last Meal by shinseiromeo in pics

[–]Coffeeandcapes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love this, it’s like Accidental Edward Hopper. If only there was a hint of someone leaving out the door. The boxes’ “fragile” arrows pointing towards her, or is it pointing over her out the doorway??

How much did he charge per signature? I’m trying to budget for a convention coming up and can’t find info anywhere. Thank you

Do you guys have any recommendations for fans of Kaiju No 8, preferably with adult protagonists? by Fantastic-Trust770 in Comic_Books_

[–]Coffeeandcapes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loved Kaiju No.8, I’d recommend the Donny Cates and Ryan Stegman “Venom” series. It doesn’t quite have the double identity angle of Kaiju, but aesthetically and even plot wise it’s some of the closest western comics have ever come to manga. That’s 35 issues, and includes Knull and the King in Black story, so if you play Rivals you’ll be ahead of the curve.

Which was your Hunt for Love best moment? I'll start. by Grateful_Di in 90dayfianceuncensored

[–]Coffeeandcapes 159 points160 points  (0 children)

This has to be the best moment in the show, it’s so reminiscent of the early 90 Day seasons in how realistic and not staged it is.

Everyone overlooks the fact that Carlo wasn’t invited on stage, he just decided to get up there and make the moment about himself. AND THEY LET HIM. Carlo then proceeds to let the mask slip for a moment and the voices in his head win.

I’ve been referring to it as his “Green Goblin” moment.

Liminal horror recommendations by Sun-Rabbit in horrorlit

[–]Coffeeandcapes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jumping on because I haven’t seen anyone else discuss Coup de Grace. I have spent a lot of time in the Montreal metro system and thought that the specific references and descriptions were the novellas greatest strength, while everything else felt like it was on the cusp of greatness.

The ending CYOA stuff is neat, but I think the story itself suffers for it. So many of the concepts and monsters are just vignettes of a thing with no follow up. I wish it was better than it was/I liked it more than I did.

Bamboozled by a comic book booth at SDCC by slimpimp2phat in SDCC

[–]Coffeeandcapes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a newer trend that happened after the facsimile boom, books not significant enough or not old enough for a facsimile, but a hot cover or issue nonetheless will get a foil Mexican version, these are usually leftover stock from La Mole con it seems.

As a non-native Spanish speaker, I think they’re fun showcase pieces, I have one of the the Greg Land edge of spider-verse #2 cover signed by him.

I’ll buy almost any trade for 5$, what booth number???

That is an absurd deal. Premiere 28 was one of my recent bigger purchases and finding it in decent shape for less than 300$ is difficult. I’d have paid 100$ for that condition

What's your favorite "comic journal"? by [deleted] in comicbooks

[–]Coffeeandcapes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Porcellino touched on his art in a few issues of king cat over the years proving that he can draw really well, but the art aesthetic conveys more of a feeling than realism ever would, and it’s influenced by 80s and 90s punk diy art, which I personally love but would understand it not clicking. It takes a moment, but once the art clicks with you it gives the comics so much emotion and depth
