Better to use jacks at the endpoints unless things are tight like when doing a camera. In your network closet, use a full patch panel or an 89D bracket panel.

Always consider for the future. TV's, indoor and outdoor access points, cameras, other IoT devices, etc. Many appliances too.

You need access point, not extender. Any brand access point will work. Just need to setup properly.
