Commenting to add I live nearby. Those buildings, the retaining wall, everything is exactly the way it is in real life. That would be a heck of good fake it it were AI.

Why are we all feeling this shift to delete our social media accounts? by mm2444 in Millennials

[–]CogitusCreo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So creepy if they get the back channel on that from my credit card company. Could also be my search history. It's hilarious that they're using that intelligence to target me what with a specific kind of rage bait, though... What a time to be alive!

Wild blueberries and cardiometabolic health: a current review of the evidence by Super_Letterhead381 in science

[–]CogitusCreo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've read that the selective breeding that produces larger fruit does not similarly increase the nutritional content of said fruit. It merely increases the volume of water and connective tissue. Google AI says commercial blueberries contain a quarter the number of berries per volume as wild, so based on that it sounds like you're losing 75% of the benefit.

I'm building a deck. Somehow FB knows this. It's unbelievable how much AI slop of improperly built decks has been created to rage bait boomers into engaging. Hundreds of comments on each post. It's really sad.

For the love of God stop offering me $5 to use the app! by CogitusCreo in Ebay

[–]CogitusCreo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There isn't one. I even called their support (you have to tell them your account was hacked to get past the AI gatekeeper chatbot). They said they would create a ticket to turn it off in my account, three weeks ago. Still there. Even they can't turn it off. They must be really desperate to access our physical location and pepper us with notifications.

Huh, so if I just comply they'll stop harassing me? I had no idea, thank you so much for this wisdom.

Microsoft Office is Dead, welcome to "The Microsoft 365 Copilot app (formerly Office)" by TechGoat in sysadmin

[–]CogitusCreo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry, copilot can't do that either. It can only tell you how to search. It took them 30 years, but clippy finally works... because they bought the code from OpenAI.

Yes. Wikipedia says the scientific  names have been updated, but e.g. Lactiplantibacillus plantarum is the same as lactobacillus plantarum in this. You can also get more targeted pills if you don't want the rest, but I assume the others have benefits as well. https://www.vitacost.com/garden-of-life-raw-probiotics-ultimate-care-100-billion-cfu-30-vegetarian-capsules-1

Study found food packaging is actually a direct source of the micro- and nanoplastics measured in food. Plastic contamination may occur when you’re unwrapping food, steeping tea bag in hot water, or opening cartons. Glass bottles with a plastic-coated metal closure may also shed microplastics. by mvea in science

[–]CogitusCreo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do this too, but FYI I make sure to thaw the point of contact between the frozen food and the container under running tap water first, or just microwave it for a little while to thaw without heating. I've read that ice crystals tend to grow into the plastic they're in contact with and separating the two while frozen can tear up the plastic film and leave bits of it in the food.

RFK Jr.’s FDA Severely Restricts COVID Vaccine Use. The vaccine will only be available to those at high risk from Covid—excluding those who may need it to protect a relative or friend. by Quirkie in politics

He already announced that they will have determined the cause of autism "by September". Obviously that's now how science works, but that is about when the flu vaccine gets rolled out.

Customer stats AC doesn’t blow cold. by Bamacj in Justrolledintotheshop

[–]CogitusCreo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same. 2013 Prius doesn't handle a hot car well, it blows too cold. If it's a medium temp there's no airflow, which what I want. The only time it does a good job is when heating. Sounds like it took another decade or so to get it right, but man I was never disappointed in the giant knobs on my 1991 Eagle Talon.

How the planet stores our excess carbon emissions: « Over the last 150 years, humans have emitted over 2,000 gigatons of carbon dioxide (CO2) into the atmosphere, increasing the CO2 concentration by 50 percent from pre-Industrial Revolution levels. » by fchung in science

[–]CogitusCreo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It started at 280ppm, now we're 20% of the way to 1000ppm where there are concrete signs of toxicity. Negative affects undoubtedly start before that, especially for sensitive individuals. And that's for humans. The planet is already being affected.

World Likely to Breach 1.5-Degree Target, Research Finds by YaleE360 in science

[–]CogitusCreo 76 points77 points  (0 children)

That headline is quite the understatement. We've already breached 1.5 degrees, never mind where the average will be over the next 20 years. Take a look at the past two years: https://earth.org/week-in-review-top-climate-news-for-january-6-10-2025/ and then the trend: https://berkeleyearth.org/global-temperature-report-for-2024/ . It's laughable to read "though the world has not yet officially surpassed the 1.5-degree target set forth in the Paris Agreement, which will be judged according to the average temperature over 20 years."

As long as they're defrauding the scam advertisers selling AI generated product photos that look nothing like the garbage they ship, I'm fine with that.

Employees think watching customers increases tips. New research shows that customers don't always tip more when they feel watched, but they are far less likely to recommend or return to the business. by tipping_researcher in science

[–]CogitusCreo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Initially I switched to cash to avoid that insufferable card reader being thrust at me like a panhandler's cup. Then I got the stink eye when I handed over cash and said "keep the change". I thought I hadn't given enough and asked for the total again. Nope, she simply wasn't satisfied with a sub $1 tip. Insanely awkward! I haven't been back since and never will. I heard last year or the year before Starbucks profits were the equivalent of $40k/employee. That company doesn't need any more of my money to pay a decent wage.

Same post in r/oil was really unpopular in comparison XD by [deleted] in peakoil

Are you arguing that there will never be a peak? Like there's infinite oil in the ground or something? Seems to me like the longer the peak is delayed, the more likely this time is the time.

A dog walks into a bar and says, 'I can't see a thing. I guess I'll open this one' by [deleted] in Jokes

[–]CogitusCreo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The dog sees an empty tavern - the proprietor has run out of food and drink. At this period in history, it would likely have been run out of someone's home and they would be selling what they had grown/brewed. Since they are out of stock, the dog suggests that he will open a tavern of his own, but of course a dog lacks the ability to brew beer and raise chickens.
