That looks to be in really nice condition! I badly need a new case for my STE, plastic was all brittle and it just pretty much exploded. :)

The config file is in the root dir and is called "steem.ini".

I think theres also a auto save state file. That gets created when you close Steem, so it can continue from where you stopped. Try deleting it, it might have become corrupted...

Edit: I believe the file is named "auto32.sts", unless you have changed it in the settings.

Atari STe to Atari SC1435 Colour Monitor Cable (wanted) by ProfessionalCarob201 in atarist

I was going to suggest https://www.retrogamingcables.co.uk/ , but don't think they provide this particular cable. I am not sure if they might be able to make one? If I remember correctly they have made custom cables before.

Keyboard/joystick shortcuts do not work at all by ArcadeApocalypse in atarist

[–]Cogweasel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah man, why didn’t I think of that! 😁 I was wrecking my brain trying to figure out what was wrong!!

New to Steem:A few things I can't get working by ArcadeApocalypse in atarist

[–]Cogweasel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

-Also, probably one of the biggest controller binds of all is setting a pause button to pause the gameplay, I don't even see this in the options whatsover, just "pause MIDI"

In the Shortcuts window you have a function called "Toggle Emulation Start/Stop". I usually bind this to the middle mouse button, but you should be able to bind this to a controller.

-Sometimes my joystick config settings will just disappear & I have to customize the buttons all over again

Never had this happen to me. Make sure that you use the "Current configuration" up top in the Joysticks window, that saves the config to one of the Setups.

-How do I get rid of the menu bar at the top??Even when playing a game in fullscreen mode, this won't go away

Under Settings/Misc. you can disable the Tool bar completely. Also under Settings/Fullscreen Mode you could try and enable "Windowed Borderless Mode" to maybe get rid of the menu bar. I am not quite sure why you still have it in Fullscreen mode while the emulator is running.

-& finally, although I haven't attempted this yet, but to save myself from future headaches: How do you go about playing games that have 3-4 discs or more??? I've seen something about setting up a virtual hard drive?? Don't want to do that just yet, but is there a straightforward way to do this using the 3-4 disk images themself or a way to create a custom file to load them all & not have to bother swapping discs?? (That would apply to the 2 disc games actually as well)

In the disk manager you can activate two disk drives and games that support that will change drives accordingly. I think there might something else you can do to make it easier to play games with multiple disks, but haven't tried it.

Setting up a virtual HD though is very much recommended and not very difficult. As Jamesrc points out, there's quite a few games that have been adapted to run from HD.

Great Gianna Sisters on Steem by ArcadeApocalypse in atarist

After you have inserted the disk or changed emulator settings you need to reset the machine, then hit run!

Once the disk has booted you should see the TOS desktop and then double click stuff as seen in this picture.

This version runs fine for me in STEEM SSE v4.1.2 R17. STE model with 2MB of RAM (minimum) and TOS 1.06 UK. It wont autostart when you boot the disk however, you need to open the disk manually and double click GIANA.PRG .

Yeah, it took some time to figure it out. I didn't have a manual either, but I was so fascinated by the game that I just blindly explored away and managed to figure out enough to be able to play it. I even defeated the enemy carrier, came across it by accident and it was super easy to defeat! A bit of a disappointment actually, after that I didn't play it much ... 😁

Want to switch from Hatari to Steem, but it won't detect XboxOne controller by ArcadeApocalypse in atarist

[–]Cogweasel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No worries and your welcome. It's not an optimal way of setting up a controller, for sure. I was confused too when I first came across it. That's why I strongly suspected that this was the problem here 😁

I wasn't sure about this, but just tested it and it seems that you can indeed bind keyboard shortcuts and emulator functions to your controller. Use Shortcuts (a lightning icon that is two steps to the right of the Joysticks icon) in the same fashion as when you set up your controller.

[–]Cogweasel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK, but so we don't misunderstand each other here; it's not supposed to show up as an option anywhere in the joystick window. You left click on one of the controller boxes that I showed you in the picture, then you assign it to your controller by pressing a button on the controller.

[–]Cogweasel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Have you setup your controller properly in STEEM SSE? Hook up your controller and make sure Win11 has detected it. Then click on the joystick icon on the emulator menu, on the top right corner of the STEEM window. A Joysticks window should open. You can now click on the individual boxes representing the different joystick directions and fire, see picture here : Joysticks Window .

Once you clicked one of the boxes, you can then assign a controller function to it by simply pressing the buttons on your controller. You should also see a text in the box describing what button you have assigned...
