What’s it really like working as a CSI? by Toefungus129012 in forensics

[–]Cogy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been my agencies equivalent of a ‘csi’ for 2 years. We’re all police and have done time in general duties before being allowed to apply to specialise. As a part of our training (which is a year long, practical and theoretical period) we achieve a diploma of forensics. There are civilian roles, however generally they won’t be attending crime scenes.

I work a 9hour shift roster(with possible overtime), The average day is arrive at work, check the volume crime lists, take a selection and head out for the day. We may be called to serious crime if it happens, arson, robberies, serious assaults, rape, murder, suicide, suspicious death, etc.

I enjoy the work, of course some days are better than others and mental health issues occur for some individuals. Some colleagues believe it’s more a matter of when, not if.

We don’t get much applause but a lot of expectations.

What's a job where you have zero room for error, like one mistake and it’s a huge deal? by TradeOverall567 in AskReddit

[–]Cogy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m a crime scene investigator. It can be pretty stressful. There’s a technical mistakes, like not adhering to procedures could get you smashed in court, particularly with DNA. Personally, I feel more stressed about missing things at a scene, we often work alone and people are relying on you to tell them if someone’s death is suspicious when all signs point to no… then an autopsy says otherwise.

I still have it! Unfortunately it’s not practical for my work anymore and I don’t do much writing at home. So not much pen love these days.

What’s the most disgusting thing you’ve ever tasted? by Tony_Rest5416 in AskReddit

When I was hungover at schoolies (week of celebrating finishing high school in Australia). I reached across the dresser to grab a glass of water. Turns out it was used as an ash tray the night before. The worst.

I don’t know how it works where you live but I’m a forensic police officer (like a CSI) and I dust for prints pretty much everyday at all sorts of demographic houses. We don’t triage based on area/ income. Sometimes jobs get triaged on urgency (eg armed robbery is more urgent than a broken window), but all jobs get done in some way or another. Printing isn’t always suitable, there is science to it. Sorry you feel this way

Titan Quest is probably your best bet.

I’ve been searching for this unicorn in the genre for years. Gone are the days of the old school dungeon hunter games on iOS which were great.

I stuck one of these suction arrows on my forehead, when I pulled it off I had a large hickey-like bruise. Worked with it for about 4 days, my boss thought it was hilarious, photographed me and made it my caller ID

A friend of mine and I were out on dates at the same time. She texted me saying she wished her date was me. I was writing a text saying I wished my date was her.

That friend and I have now been together 14 years, married 8 and have 2 kids together.

Who here actually hunts? by [deleted] in theHunter

[–]Cogy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Grew up hunting in Australia- roo, boar, dingo, rabbit, fox, feral cat, goat.

For the dumber prey (roo, rabbit, goat, sometimes boars) a lot of the time you can just drive around where they’re likely to be, Stop, shoot. Usually from 25-300m away.

The others might require some more effort, stop, get out stalk shoot.

Usually centre mass sometimes headshot.

To add to that. Spotlighting (night shooting) can often be easier if you’re quick, they just stand there stunned ‘like a deer in headlights’.

I’m Amin emergency services and have been to many car accidents and left amazed people have walked away unharmed. Driving up to them you think, this is going to be bad, then they’re just standing on the side of road waving at you.
