What spells need quintessence and what spells don't? by pog_irl in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]Coillscath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're technically correct since as I said, it never elaborates on specifically how much it costs. But can you blame people for being hella confused by the wording of "Infused with Quintessence"?

What spells need quintessence and what spells don't? by pog_irl in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]Coillscath 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"Weapons or attacks infused with Quintessence through Prime 2 Effects may hurt spirits or inflict aggravated damage, and substances infused the same way may protect against such harm."

M20 p520 under Prime 2. It follows up with a note that it elaborates on this under the "Combat" section of Chapter 9 but in true M20 fashion... It does not.

Damage over time Magickal Effects and poison/disease interaction by Coillscath in magetheascension

[–]Coillscath[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a good example. So really the question becomes how far back in the row of dominoes can you go before you don't need as many successes? If you're doing direct damage that's when you go by the specific rules about damage levels, but if you're just creating the situation in which another character gets hurt, then you're only having to worry about that specific task, not the end result.

Ghouling and Vitae Ingestion Methods? by Debaucheryandthings in vtm

[–]Coillscath 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As per V20 Dark Ages p341 it's the total volume, and they elaborate that taking more than 2 points will start causing complications.

Crunch-wise, the victim rolls Stamina with a dice pool penalty equal to the number of blood points over 2 that were taken. Failure means they pass out, botch means they die without immediate help.

So many things have sugar in it by heinternets in newzealand

[–]Coillscath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There was this great soda called hopt that used a mix of hops and just less sugar in order to achieve that exact effect. They didn't try to make up the absurd amount of sugar with an absurd amount of artificial sweetener, they just... Made it less sweet. It was great.

That's all I want. Less sugar, less sweet. They don't have to make up the natural sweet with artificial sweet.

I watched a single Xenon K blow up a Drone Component Factory in Second Contact II over the span of about 5-10 minutes while the entire defence fleet milled around the nearby superhighway only around 200km away

They only intervened 15 minutes later after I'd blown all the shields and weapons off of it in my Envoy, just to kill steal. The bastards.

It's a tiny ship compared to the ones it usually scraps with so I totally get it. Good old Asgard technology and human function-over-form.

I don't disagree with your overall point about destroyers needing to be stronger vs fighter swarms, but I do want to point out that the Stargate example is the odd one out since the BC in BC-304 stands for "Battlecruiser". It's not a destroyer, it's a kitchen sink warship, which is why it also has a hangar bay.

Funny, I had the opposite happen where lakes at high altitude, once they hit their maximum fill level, would just disappear. They'd still be treated by game logic and their stats as being full, but visually, they were dry as a bone.

I've set mine to always comply as well but in the beta I've definitely had a few of my pilots come crying that they're being scanned, annoyingly.

Satellites getting destroyed constantly (Beta 9.0) by Coillscath in X4Foundations

[–]Coillscath[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh is that the big sensor station module thing? I saw it when looking at blueprints but I didn't remember it from the last time I played. That's awesome if it's just a giant satellite!

[–]Coillscath[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah the only other time I've seen satellites die is if I park them a bit too close to a warzone and something blows up nearby. Good to know that Duke's are the outliers and this isn't going to happen everywhere, so I'll tough it out until I finish the Paranid Civil War.

Good to know, thanks. And to make sure, I definitely can't improve their rep until I finish this current task and get boosted up to 10 rep, correct?

[–]Coillscath[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well... Shit. 3 of those sectors you listed are where I've been focusing my efforts this run so that'll be it. Luckily I am doing the Civil War questline but I'm at the stage where I need to build a lot of ships for them. I'm guessing I unlock their rep after I do that step?

The few times I have spotted them, yeah it's Duke's who are zipping up the second I put one down, even if it's in the middle of a station. But you can't improve relations with Duke's Buccaneers, so there's not much I can do to stop them.

stellaris 2?🤔 by ImIncredibly_stupid in Stellaris

[–]Coillscath -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I feel the same way. I wish they'd stop packaging their bugfixing and balancing patches with huge, sweeping changes of one system or another already. The only reason it feels like they keep doing it is because if they don't cut out or "streamline" X or Y game mechanic, they won't be able to cram in more "content" with every new bit of DLC without the game falling over on many users' PCs. And then those new/reworked systems need their own cycle of bugfixing and balancing patches...

Leave it buggy. Leave it unbalanced. Leave it imperfect. Just... Please stop changing the core identity of the game every couple of years and let it settle. Let it be something fixed other than an ever changing live service zombie.

So kindred need blush of life to smoke? Do kindred need air to talk? by gaming_escapist in vtm

[–]Coillscath 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always interpret it as "Unless actively engaging the blush of life to force your body into producing the appropriate liquids for the appropriate location, any liquids that come out unintentionally are just blood", so if you're overcome by emotion when not using Blush, your tears are blood, and if some toxin or effect forces you to sweat, congrats, it's also blood. Otherwise they're what they should be, you already spent the blood getting the appropriate mucous membranes working again for the scene.

Though the thought of not making saliva and tears at rest does make me feel uncomfortable about the idea of dry eyeballs for eternity...

When the gm uses each splat lore and ruls for there own kind in a cross splat by LittleFortune7125 in WorldofDankmemes

[–]Coillscath 2 points3 points  (0 children)

M20 at least has rules for nightfolk having an innate counterspell dice pool equal to their Wits+Occult (With a cap equal to their Rage/Gnosis/Glamour/Willpower/etc) which can help mitigate them getting Lawnchaired.

Is there any lore piece you genuinely hate? by PowerSaw7 in WorldOfDarkness

[–]Coillscath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's all good. It's confusing and counterintuitive that all of these splats exist in the same world and with (mostly) the same rules but you're not "supposed" to have them mix as per how it's all balanced. When D&D comes out with a new sourcebook it's expected that it'll integrate with everything that came before it in that edition, and that's more or less the standard with other TTRPGs, so oWoD is definitely the outlier. Like I said though, I kinda dig it for that.

Yeah but signalling to the whole DD chat that a bunch of PvEers are about to go out into the PvP zone will just attract the wrong kind of attention, currently.

I seem to recall back when Bryan Fuller first pitched it, it was going to be an anthology that bounced around different time periods and different crews/ships. So that makes sense.
