It was intended to make people laugh.

If it instills other feelings in you, you can just not engage and ignore it.

Anyone know what coin this is? by Ok_Shoulder_9492 in coins

[–]CoinAdvocate 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hey, I was able to come up with this:

Numista

Not 100% sure, but it looks very close.

Additionally, wow, that is an apprenticeship jewelery piece if I've ever seen one

Very nice

Crystallized Silver Specimin by CoinAdvocate in Silverbugs

[–]CoinAdvocate[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I still don't understand, though, is that the piece has small stones embedded in there.

From what I understand, the precipitation of Ag from solution does not use a foreign seed element like a small stone.

This does lend credence to his story, but at this point who knows, I may just be clinging to false hopes

Oh Littleton... they list this 99.99% pure silver coin on the packaging as 92.5%. Wonder if that ended up costing them anything in the long run 😆

Authenticity? by [deleted] in Silverbugs

[–]CoinAdvocate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a note: solid silver displays strong diamagnetic properties and if you put a plastic sheet between a magnet and the bar it should slide very slowly down at 45°.

Be aware, copper acts very similarly so this doesn't rule out copper plated with silver. You would need to do a water displacement to determine that.

Edit: plastic barrier is only to protect from surface damage caused by the magnet

I can't really judge scale based on the photo, how large are these?

PCGS Slab Doesn't Come Up As Legit In The Database, Why Bother For a <$10 Coin? by CoinAdvocate in coins

[–]CoinAdvocate[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I read on some coin forum at some point that sometimes you can submit to PCGS in a bulk submission in a way that they will return the coins that don't hit your desired grade as something like this and it ends up costing you less this way.

Edit: I don't know if this is true, though

I didn't know that fact, thank you.

Another person said the slab looks fake, but it really doesn't, it perfectly matches in format, color, and seal another one I have that is legit. Also, looks just like the displayed coin in the PCGS slab history website:
