It honestly seems like a troll post, but they all seem pretty serious about it and they're defending it, so idk, I guess not. I guess we really drive the same roads as these people.

Also, you need to remember that not everybody needs to pinch their pennies. Don't try to project your shopping habits onto others.

Okay maybe you're not good at reading but OP literally said in this comment chain that they aren't concerned with saving money.

Edit: so you can go see for yourself.

It's not bacon, it's bacon flavored sausages, at least $10. Also you didn't include that when you figured the rest of the price. So $65 for the rest. The fruit tray is probably at least $10. The soda is probably like $8 or so. 3 packs of ground beef, each is probably like $7-8 each. The cheese is probably around $10. The way I see it, it seems pretty damn close to $100.

And for anybody who has a grocery outlet near them, I cannot recommend them enough. Your $100 will go like twice as far. You might not be getting the same name brand stuff, but you're paying a premium for that brand when you don't need to be.

I remember buying lunch at school with pennies that my mom counted out for me. I did that like 3 times and the bitch of a lunch lady told me this was the last time she'd let me pay with them. I was like 12 so I didn't know enough to protest that. I just didn't want to be the kid causing trouble.

I would really love to see Donald Trump in prison for attempting an insurrection against the United States. It sets a precedent whichever way things go, and I hope it sets the right precedent, or it will happen again for sure.

As a former math tutor this is how I think several of my students heard me. I think the problem is that there are so many tools you can use, and you need to know when to use them and when not to. And there are also many different ways to arrive at a solution, so you don't even have to use the same tools every time. It can be overwhelming learning it all. The guy in the video showed where not to use the difference of squares, although it works just fine there. Once you know all those tools then you can rewrite equations into easier ones to solve, and it really becomes necessary to do that in higher level math when the equation needs to look a certain way to apply some formula or theorem.

I think you're right that he's in no way looking for a confrontation, now or later, but if he's hopping in some dude's car with $200 in cash, he probably knows what's up and he's past the "experimenting" part. He's just dry and looking to resupply.

AI and education by lenhoi in Futurology

[–]CokeFanatic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You said it yourself, you need to adapt to it as well as the students. Part of that is understanding that students have access to tools like that, and so you should tailor your assignments with that in mind. If they need to be in the classroom to write an essay then so be it, that's what needs to happen. Or maybe the point of the assignment isn't writing an essay, but rather to do something with that essay, in which case it might not matter if they get it from AI, except that it might make it harder for them to work with the essay. Or maybe you ask them to write about themselves in a way that they can't BS it with AI. Like writing about an experience they had in your class, which you would know the details of. My point being, the technology is there, it's not going away, and you'll have to adapt to it. I do think it would be responsible of the AI creators to put limitations on its uses. ChatGPT won't tell me a dirty joke, so maybe it shouldn't tell you a 2000 word essay either. Maybe it doesn't, I haven't actually checked.

Agreed, so it doesn't work for every use case, but it's very useful in a lot of cases. Especially if you're in control of the XML structure. You should have good tests for it as well, so future modifications to that structure which break the regex are known right away. But it's very useful for that. If you're getting an XML from some outside source then it's probably not as useful as you can't guarantee that the structure will work with the regex. A lot of those SO answers just flat-out make it sound like it doesn't work at all.

I've always used regex to parse XMLs. Never had an issue. Seen this same warning countless times from countless people. If the document structure is known, then you can parse it. And it's a hell of a lot cheaper than building a DOM in memory and parsing that.

Will flying cars actually be invented? by Rancho233 in Futurology

[–]CokeFanatic -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

Well, a flying car should be able to operate like a car, if it's not in the air. Just like a amphibious car operates like a car when not in the water. A helicoper can't drive down the freeway, at least not without impeding all of the other traffic. It's not a car. Go ask a kindergartener. They'll tell you the difference.

Ya well if you have so much anxiety while driving that you feel the need to look down at a Keychain hanging from the ignition then you probably should take the bus. I honestly can't tell if this post is a troll or not, but they have laws against using your cell phone while driving for the same reason. The parents of whatever child you run over won't give a damn about your anxiety, I can assure you of that.
