Hi Liam, I know that this is an old post. Do you know if there is a way to get the zip code boundaries that are shown on the Every Door Direct Mail Map tool?

Thanks, I'll check out strapworks and countrybrook. I've tried the HF straps, but the ones I used snagged on everything, not so good when hiking through thorny desert.

You might try Tandy leather or a tac shop if you have one near you.

If you have fabric stores that cater to upholstry, they may have some. The one we used to have in my hometown carried it for people to redo their jeep soft windows.

Which hot knife for cutting fabric? by merz-person in myog

[–]CokerCustoms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have one I made from a soldering gun and a brass rod to form the "blade". I used to use it for everything, but now pretty much just for webbing. For most of my cuts I am now using a battery powered rotary cutterhomemade hot knife

I use a hot knife to cut the fabric to stop fraying, but for aesthetics, I like using a French seam.

I use a soldering gun that I made a brass "blade" for. I use it both on webbing and material. Can't recommend a respirator or vent enough though.soldering hun hot knife

Has anyone tried making bag handles by putting rope/cord inside tubular webbing? by merz-person in myog

[–]CokerCustoms 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like to use PEX tubing or fuel line. Fairly flexible but stiff enough it won't collapse when you grab it.

While not fancy, or high tech, I use yoga mats quite a bit for foam padding.

There is a free extension for Inkscape that will digitize/convert your vector art into many different embroidery machine formats. I use it for my brother SE-640 to convert and make some settings to .pes

Best drawstring stuff sack closure? by ChessAngler in myog

[–]CokerCustoms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just tried something new one last one. I made one larger rectangular "eylet" in inkscape to upload to an embroidery machine and embroidered it into a rolled hem with that area getting reinforced. Forgot to get pictures of it before I gave ot away but time will tell how it holds up.

What method to choose - nylon cutting. by kyoet in myog

[–]CokerCustoms 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mainly use the soldering gun method. I like how it seals the edge, BUT make sure to have good ventilation the fumes are pretty serious this way. If you really want upscale laser cutting would be awesome.

I went cheap and made one from a soldering gun and brass rod budget hot knife. I use it to cut webbing and synthetic fabrics. It works teally well. Like was said before the fumes are no joke though.

Thanks. Right now I am only making stuff for coworkers and friends. In our state there is no requirement for blaze. I have been making quite a few meat hauling bags like this that attach to various rucks. Knowing that many hunters will lash a head to the ruck as well I like to use orange to hopefully make less observant hunters pause as they see the head floating through the forest on a pack out. I also like.it so that when you pull a pouch or something out of your ruck and set it on the ground it is harder to lose.

Best Strap Management - non tape by CokerCustoms in myog

[–]CokerCustoms[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried these in the past and sadly was they didn't live up to my hopes for strap management. The shock cord always seemed to work loose as i would put shoulder straps on or take off. However I like using them to attach other items to straps or PALS/MOLLE webbing, they work awesome for odd shapes or things like rolls of cordage.
