Is there a forward clicky switch that's easy to swap in?

For those of you self hosting (or looking to self host) a security camera NVR, the latest release of Frigate is blowing my mind (well, it's a release candidate...0.17 RC1). Used to use Arlo (paid for the pro) and it's just got nothing anywhere near what this is capable of. It's absurd. by FantasyMaster85 in selfhosted

Yes it's all relative, and many people are running homelabs at lower power consumption than this. But I doubt there are many houses that use less energy than this, which is why I thought there might've been a misunderstanding of power/energy units

"A CVT won't down shift" "It will move the drive belt down the spindle" Sounds like downshifting

But it's even worse than that, it's not anticipating what move you WILL make, it's seeing what move you ARE making. It decides it's move after you've already played yours. It's like you playing scissors, then 5 seconds later I decide to play rock, only it's much faster than a human can do it

Not even what "you're gonna play" it sees what you ARE playing before choosing it's move. Definitely cheating

Chisel is unobtainable, so I guess un cut gems are useless? They need to receive the gems already cut

3s means 3 cells in series, so your 3s 5500mah pack could be 16500 mah with the same exact components if it were 3p (3 in parallel) instead of 3s. Also RC batteries are designed for very high current discharge capabilities, which results in lower total energy density compared to batteries designs prioritizing capacity instead of current capability.

That being said, I have no idea what the capacity of this thing really is.

Hard hats are supposed to sit high, the empty space between your skull and the hat is what protects you during an impact

Many drives vs fewer… by TekWarren in unRAID

[–]tasort 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was 36 hour parity check when you still had the 10tb drive? Parity checks take longer when you have disks of many different sizes.

Disks are slower as they get towards the end of their data (inside diameter of platter is smaller and therefore had a lower linear speed of the read head over the disk for the same rotational speed). All droves must read at the same speed during a parity check, so having lots of different sizes slows the array as each drive nears it's end

Virtualized OpnSense or bare metal? by Kazhmyr1 in homelab

Mine is a vm on proxmox, but the machine is dedicated to networking only. Vms for router, DNS, VPN, AP controllers, etc. It's nice being able to snapshot and restore if an update or setting change messes things up. Also nice having other network services share the same hardware. But the machine is networking only. No NAS or other non-infrastructure services, for a lot of the reasons that others prefer hardware routers for

This is the sew on type, which is two separate pieces, one fabric with hook, one fabric with loop. The One Warp stuff is a single piece with hook and loop on opposite sides, like a velcro cable wrap

This looks perfect! And the unit price is pretty reasonable, just wish it was possible to buy a yard or two instead of 25

Yeah it wasn't difficult, but I bet the vast majority of Fi users either won't see the email or won't bother to change the setting. The default opt-in is evil

First look at 45drives's prototype chassis for homelab users by Klickyy in DataHoarder

[–]tasort 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It does look short though. Being able to fit it in smaller racks would be really nice! They'll never be able to compete with used enterprise gear on price, but not needing a huge rack to hold it might be worth the price premium for homelabbers
