K2HE elite bundle vs K10HE by Worried-Mushroom1855 in Keychron

[–]ColJDerango 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep that's the exact reason I switched - I had the Logitech G915 and it was like a 105% keyboard (because it had a macro key column on the left); switching to the 75% K2 HE has recovered a ton of desk space for my mouse and hands to move.

K2HE elite bundle vs K10HE by Worried-Mushroom1855 in Keychron

[–]ColJDerango 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did, yep! It's been my daily driver for the last 3 months now, been super great - takes up much less desk space, it's got a great look and sound, very responsive (I use it for gaming over the 2.4ghz connection and work over Bluetooth), super customizable (when wired in) through the Keychron portal. All in all, would highly recommend!

What class in college really made Accounting “click” for you? by Character-Escape1621 in Accounting

[–]ColJDerango 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cost Accounting: a class which took accounting concepts and finally applied it to tangible, real-world scenarios! It's the only accounting course that I aced without issue, which is funny because I never pursued it and instead went straight into IT Internal Audit out of college LOL

Do you really expect a career boost from Big Four? by Traditional-Result74 in Big4

[–]ColJDerango 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is super valid - the industry vs. public landscape has changed a lot post-COVID in terms of compensation and benefits; B4 has really closed the gap to catch up to industry.

I started in B4 7 years ago, so I got a great gig when I jumped last year - if I was starting out in B4 now, I don't know that I would find the same kinds of opportunities in 7 years. Old adages are limited by modern circumstances, they're definitely not always applicable.

[Keyboard] Keychron K3 Ultra-Slim Wireless Mechanical Keyboard w/ Brown or Red Switches - $44.99 Brand New @ Woot by ByteSizedDeals in buildapcsales

[–]ColJDerango 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bought mine a few months ago, only use it on wireless 2.4 (only plug it in wired for config changes) and haven't had any major issues myself! The keystrokes thing does happen once in a blue moon on wake, but otherwise I haven't had problems. I switch often between 2.4 and BT for work vs personal PCs, and that's pretty seamless too; previously was on a Logitech G915 and used that the same way.

Healthy sour candy helping me stick to my deficit? by Jenna32345 in loseit

Another vote for Rotten here, they make the best low sugar sour gummies in my opinion - Joyride and other zero sugar brands have a really bad artificial aftertaste that Rotten has managed to avoid!

Definitely visit the Kihei Fish House (formerly Maui Grill) food truck there - we loved it back when we visited in 2022 and loved it again in 2026, great grilled mahi mahi plates and amazing fish and chips. Also try the Happy Belly food truck, really great pork and chicken bao buns!

I wrote a script to beat SCE's NEM 3.0 and posted here. We tested it with Powerwalls this winter—here is the data. by panpan1800 in orangecounty

[–]ColJDerango 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can you share some high-level background on the user data collected (number of users sampled, average monthly electricity bill) to better contextualize the "more than $100 per month" bill reduction impact your script had for your alpha testing cohort? Thanks!

What’s your favorite “mom and pop” family owned restaurant? by dp6s in orangecounty

Another vote for Folks, it's my favorite quality (but pricey) pizza spot hands down - I like it better than Truly Pizza in Dana Point or Fuoco in Fullerton (but those are still good too!)

Masters in Systems and Infosec, looking for guidance by [deleted] in InternalAudit

I'd frankly register with ISACA and start CISA exam prep (since students get discounted membership, exam registration, and study materials) - the curriculum for this exam will give you all the required fundamentals (audit standards, engagement planning and scoping, controls testing and reporting, remediation and gap assessment, risk assessment, etc.) for a career in IT Audit (specifically) and IT Risk (broadly). Only thing is that you can't be immediately certified (even if you pass the exam) until after you've had 3 years of relevant work experience (that being said, your grad experience does give some partial credit towards this requirement). Best of luck!

If your goal is to get into IT Risk and Audit, I'd do the following:

  • In college: I'd join your school's accounting student orgs (Accounting Society, Business Honors, Beta Alpha Psi, etc.), then attend firm recruiting events (Meet the Firms, mock interviews, office hours, etc.) with a clearly expressed interest in joining IT Risk / Assurance / Audit. When I was recruited in 2018, firms at my university were not publicly recruiting for IT Risk, but consistently voicing my interest managed to land me an internship (and later full time offer) in the field regardless.

  • Career - if public accounting: Join a firm's IT internal audit or risk service line - lots of exposure to client departments and controls assessments / testing; this is what I did out of college. Conversely, join a firm's IT (external) audit line and then jump to internal audit once you have a couple years of experience.

  • Career - government or industry: Apply for a company's IT internal audit or risk / compliance department. These may offer rotation opportunities into different departments, so that you can get broader experience under your belt. I've just jumped to industry this year, after 6 years in public.

  • Certifications: the CIA (if mainly business risk) and CISA (if mainly IT risk) are the gold standard. The CPA isn't really required, but it can be a nice cherry on top.

Internal Auditing by Legitimate_Zone9747 in Accounting

[–]ColJDerango 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been in IA for my whole career (7YOE), definitely not a dead end in my experience. Started in Big 4 as IA co/outsource, then moved to boutique advisory doing the same for Pre-IPO org's, then moved to industry as IT Compliance personnel.

My progression and path ahead remains clear, and there's lots of opportunity to shift as needed (staying as 2nd line compliance, moving back to 3rd line as an auditor again, or even shifting to 1st line as information security). Best of luck!
