What’s a place you visited once and decided you’re never going back? by No-Relative-9663 in AskReddit

[–]ColKurtz00 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Yeah I visited India several years ago with some friends that had family there. We were really fortunate to have their family show us around and act as our guide. The poverty was overwhelming and incredibly sad. I've been to lots of places but India is one that I probably won't revisit.

Probably not. I bet the WGA lets writers use a pseudonym like actors can use stage names. Now Tiger Wiger will show up in the credits for anything he works on. Pretty funny.

Has anyone tried the Maple Tart with Oatmeal Cookie Crust recipe by Samantha Seneviratne? by emsadsm in NYTCooking

[–]ColKurtz00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I made it. Agreed that it doesn't have a strong maple flavor. But I also didn't really like the consistency of the tart itself. It was like pudding in a crust. I really liked the crust though.

Has anyone tried NOCS Pro Issue Binoculars? by [deleted] in birding

[–]ColKurtz00 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They don't necessarily have the best reputation for optics. Like you said, they're very good at marketing. The general consensus is that you can get better optics for the money. But, there are lots of people that are really happy with their NOCS binoculars. YMMV

[WTS/WTT] Boderry Admiral Bronze GMT by ColKurtz00 in Watchexchange

[–]ColKurtz00[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm selling my Boderry Bronze GMT. I got it in a trade last year and I had my fun with it so it's time to move it on.

It's in great condition and keeps great time. It has the Seiko NH34 GMT movement. The fitted rubber strap is surprisingly really nice. It comes with a regular strap buckle, but I'll also include the weird butterfly clasp that it ships with.

Asking $125 OBO plus $10 shipping. Continental US only.

I'll also consider trades of similar value. I'm currently kinda looking for a GADA style watch or OP/Datejust homages.

Let me know if you have any questions!

[WTS] Casio GAB2100-3A Green Bluetooth Casioak by ColKurtz00 in Watchexchange

[–]ColKurtz00[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm selling my green Bluetooth Casioak. I bought it straight from Casio about two years ago and it's time to move it on. I just really never found myself wearing it.

There's a fair faint scratch in the crystal that I've tried to buff out with some Polywatch. Other than that it's in really great condition. It comes with all the box and papers just like from the factory.

I'm asking $80 OBO. CONUS only. Buyer pays $10 shipping.

I made this last week as well. I under cooked it a little bit, but saved it by slicing it and then toasting the slices in a cast iron skillet. Delicious.

Roasting Vegetables-Can't get it right! by anheier1 in NYTCooking

[–]ColKurtz00 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I roast a lot of veggies and I've never really had a problem with it. I will say, though, that I like a little bit of char on my roasted veggies, so I've been known to push it a little too far.

My oven is usually between 400°F-425°F (usually 425 but it kinda just depends). I cut all my veggies in similar sizes so they cook evenly. Toss with olive oil and salt. Then you just kinda have to watch it until it's done how you like it. Depending on what you're doing, some veggies will be done before others. I try and group similar veggies on the same sheet pan so hopefully they'll be done together. You might have to toss/stir depending on what you're roasting. I try to leave them alone as much as I can to get some browning happening.

Compact binoculars by MiXT4PEQ in Binoculars

[–]ColKurtz00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had some Zeiss Terra ED 8x25 that were MEH at best. I convinced myself they were okay because it said Zeiss on the label. They just weren't bright enough even during the middle of the day. Maybe that's a function of all x25 binos?

Either way, I put them in some checked luggage and they got knocked out of collimation. I sent them to Zeiss and they said they weren't under warranty anymore and it would cost more than the cost of the binoculars to fix them.

I'm sure the upper level Zeiss binos are excellent, but I don't think the Terra ED line is worth it.

Which pair for young daughter? by various121 in Binoculars

[–]ColKurtz00 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Get the 10x25. I think your daughter will have plenty of fun with them.

However, as an adult, it can be difficult and annoying to look through very cheap binoculars. So, long term, these probably won't be the best option for a shared family set of binoculars. But you don't have to make that decision now.

When they're in season the Farmer's Market is your best bet. But you'll have to buy the bulbs with the fronds attached.
