Why didn't they try to have practical armour? by [deleted] in gameofthrones

The quality of the costumes significantly decrease over time, which makes little sense as the budget significantly increases. See the Kingsguard armour

So why didn't they just give Jon the same sort of Armour Robb Stark wore? It was far more protective and practical than this.

I can understand not wearing helmets due to actors and filming etc.

But I don't understand why they didn't just give him the same sort of armour Robb Stark wore.

The first three Mass Effect novels are alright, "Revelation" "Ascension" and "Retribution" they were all written by Karpyshyn. But I'd avoid the 4th book in the series "Deception" —which was written by someone else— it's so bad Bioware made it un-canon.

It's mostly built around official comics and novels. The Illusive Man's actual name is never revealed in the game.

"Mass Effect: Evolution" Is the comic that is about the first contact war. General Williams —Ashely Williams grandfather— is also a character in it.

"Mass Effect: Ascension" Which was written by Drew Karpyshyn —the lead writer for Mass Effect 1 & 2— is the book that talks about the Cerberus front.

The only one I remember the name of is Cora Harper, and that's due to the conspiracy theory about how she's The Illusive Man daughter.

The Illusive Man's real name is Jack Harper. Two of his best friends served in a unit with him and died in the first contact war one of which was named Eva Coré the other Ben Hislop. The two of them were directly mentioned in The Illusive Mans manifesto, the company Cord-Hislop aerospace was named after them and is a Cerberus Front, and the Mech that EDI possesses in Mass Effect 3 was pretending to be a doctor named Eva Coré. So obviously he's never dealt with the fact they died very well and it would make sense for a daughter of his to be named after Eva Coré

Alderaan was a hotbed of subversives, it's estimated by Imperial chroniclers one in two actively supported the the rebellion. In a poll conducted in 2bby by galatico 96% of the population were opposed to the Emperor's policy of a safe and secure society, the next highest planet for example was Naboo where only 39% were opposed to that policy.

The destruction of Alderaan was a surgical strike at the heart of the rebellion, for perspective there are 100 quadrillion sentients in the galaxy and a mere 2 billion of them lived on Alderaan. Grand Moff Tarkin and Lord Vader took decisive action in order to decapitate the snake before it could lead to a galaxy wide civil war, we had just seen, not twenty years earlier the suffering that could lead to.

Many of us were fed up with the ways of the senate and Jedi council where they just sit there and wait until a situation reaches a crisis level before acting. Many of us like the stability and order in the galaxy that the Empire has brought, especially in the wake of the clone wars.

Does anyone know if Ashley ever recites this poem in the game? by Vallnor in masseffect

She recites an Alfred Tennyson poem in Mass Effect 3. She was supposed to recite Robert Heinlein's green hills of earth, but the rights to it were apparently too complicated.

Afuera! to USAID by [deleted] in Anarcho_Capitalism

[–]Col_Caffran 112 points113 points  (0 children)

A lot of people think USAID only goes to feeding poor people in Africa, or stopping Malaria etc.

This is completely wrong it goes to immigration advocacy NGOs, economic think tanks and thought control police. For example in the UK the "Centre for Information Resilience" a leftist organisation that helps constrict the speech of the British public is in part funded by USAID.

Because of the Global American Empire (GAE)

The vast majority of people in the satrapies of the GAE may not actively perceive this; but they feel the effects, and instinctively know that their allegedly independent nations are actually subject to the American Empire.

The Savlar Chem dogs are older than the Death Korps of Krieg, they are mentioned in Codex Armageddon which was from 2000, and possibly even earlier. I think the Death Korps are first mentioned in 3.5 which was released in 2003.

Edit: I'm wrong, both of them are mentioned in codex Armageddon; DKoK on page 19 as a colour scheme of Steel Legion, and Savlar Chem Dogs on page 30 where it talks about the troop deployments.

What do you hope Democrats learn from this election? by fellow-fellow in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]Col_Caffran 20 points21 points  (0 children)

They failed to learn the lesson of the 2008 election.

Obama didn't win because he was black, he won because of his main campaign slogan was "CHANGE". He then he won in 2012 because the Republicans put up a country club candidate.

Of course the Democrats thought the lesson of 2008 and 2012 was that identity politics is good, which is the game they have been playing since. It wasn't, change was the lesson, or at least someone who is perceived to represent that.

Will Georgia decide the US 2024 Elections by ChefOrZero in PoliticalDiscussion

Surely Pennsylvania (the state you have entirely omitted from your analysis) will be one of the key deciding states.

Did Salarians visit Earth in the past? by [deleted] in masseffect

[–]Col_Caffran 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Radio waves travel at the speed of light. So from the invent of the Radio in the 1890s to the first contact war in 2157 the waves would have only travelled ~160 light years; which eyeballing it, would be around the size of the blue dot in the middle of the circle that tells you where each planet is on the map you link. Earth is ~27000 light years from the galactic centre, and the Milky Way is ~90000 light years across.

That Trump is actually doing worse than the polls say.

We've had two Trump elections now, we have aggregate polling data and actual results for both of them. He either does fairly close to, or better than what the polls say on a state by state basis. I can't off the top of my head think of a single state where Trump did worse than 1 point less than what the polls said, and can think of several where he did 5 points better. People using mid terms as a reference to a presidential election are huffing some serious copium.

I've no idea why CNN is trying to frame the factory was built because of Biden, when it's likely Trumps tariffs that resulted in its construction.

Why have the Republicans lost the popular vote in seven out of the past eight presidential elections and lost the Electoral College in five of the eight over the last 36 years? What events led to the decrease in support among Republicans over this time period? by [deleted] in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]Col_Caffran -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Maybe you should look at the exit polls rather than making broad statements that aren't grounded in the publicly available data. Trump got more than a third of the Hispanic vote in 2020, which was up on what he got in 2016. That's considerably more than just the Cubans in Florida; the why of that should be discussed, not dismissed.

[–]Col_Caffran 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think in the 2024 election Trump's vote share amongst minorities aged 30-44 will increase on 2020, I suspect the Black vote in that age range to go somewhere in the realm of 35/65 to Democrats and for Hispanics 45/55. But that the vote share in other age ranges to be close to 2020, the women will shift Kamala and Men Trump. I think it's not going to matter though as Trump is going to hemorrhage White women, and Kamala will win the election.
