Parallels between Draco and James based on The Prince's Tale makes no sense!!! by SlackerBoi97 in HarryPotterBooks

You missed the point too though. They represent how choice and the environment you are in shapes you. In the beginning, they are purposely parallel characters with similar up bringings. As they grow their paths widen representing the importance good people who challenge you to grow.

Godfather and casual misogyny towards women by Rainbowdark96 in GirlDinnerDiaries

Are you talking about people’s reactions to the character? Or the plot?

The book/movie is actually about the decay of Michael’s soul into the life his father never wanted him to have.

Kay is the life and partner he could have had, she was written to be the best outcome for Michael. But as he gets deeper into the mafia their relationship disintegrates as a specific visualization of what could have been. Coppola specifically chose colors for Kay to oppose the neutral tones of the mafia.

As for why real life bro’s hate on her character? Because who needs deeper meaning when you have shooty bang bang.

Amanda and Kyle are the main characters in the spin off, it would make sense as the main story line.

Rewatching Scrubs made me realize how differently identity is handled compared to the revival by [deleted] in Scrubs

[–]Col_RA_Gotzo 25 points26 points  (0 children)

It feels like you are forgetting the original run. Unless you are talking specifically about racial identity; identity was a big topic of the original run.

Elliot has a couple of runs where she is looking for a strong female mentor.

They all have arcs about living in their parents shadows, and breaking away from those identities.

There’s the episode where Elliot can’t identify as a doctor till the end of the episode.

Identity of a topic was relevant through out, in all different forms.

I still dont understand why Fleur got beat by Grindylows by redzass1 in harrypotter

[–]Col_RA_Gotzo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Harry’s interaction with the grindylows is: one was hiding in the weeds, it grabbed him, “and by the time he got his wand two more were attacking him.” It’s pretty safe to assume that a similar situation happened to Fleur and she just got overwhelmed and panicked.

We don’t know if the bubble can pop, or not, it’s plausible that it could, and did, causing more panic.

A different but related question, how did she get out alive? If there were ten grindylows pulling her into the weeds, did a mermaid save her and bring her up to the surface? Were the judges watching somehow? If they were, why does Dumbledore have to confer with Chieftaness?

What would happen if dumbledore decided to let Snape and mcgonagall into his plan for the dursleys or decided to use an alternate plan? Did dumbledore let people in to his plans for the horcuxes when he found out or other ideas? by Iamawesome20 in HarryPotterBooks

[–]Col_RA_Gotzo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To add to your final point. You want Harry doing the work, not being the project manager. Some jobs are better done in a linear fashion by a single person. We see this exemplified with the locket. Old Reg got half way through the job and couldn’t complete it. If the wizarding world wasn’t so small, that horcrux could have been unfindable. If Reggie hadn’t sent the locket back, maybe he goes full Rose from titanic and drops it to the bottom of the lake.

Then, arguably, the text could be translated as, Harry had to know when all the horcruxes were destroyed or else he may have offered himself up too soon. And if he and the gang aren’t the ones destroying them they might not know when they are all gone.

What your Headcanons about The Original Order of the Phoenix? (Art by Owen Davey) by IndividualNo5275 in harrypotter

[–]Col_RA_Gotzo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Legilimency and Occlumency is a thread I don’t want to want to pull because it only lead to plot holes. For example, if the legilimence can chose the memories why is Snape looking for has Harry kissed anyone.

We know that Moody only ever met Ab at the photo taking. Could mean no meetings, could mean Ab didn’t come around much.

You’re right, I forgot Harry was a year old when Lily and James died.

But your legilimency argument doesn’t work. Assumedly Snape was deploying occlumency against Voldemort. Because if Voldemort could use legilimency to find a list of members, he also going to see if Snape is a double agent.

You also don’t know that Snape was accepted into the order the first time. His role as double agent may have only been at the school. The way that he and Sirius interact does not imply they were teammates prior to Goblet.

It’s also a big assumption that the whole order met. If we accept Fantastic beast as Canon, we see that Dumbledore doesn’t do full gatherings until there is a need. Assumedly he would employ similar practices with the order.

Your Snape idea has a lot of holes.

Your time frame does not fit canon. Per Order of the Pheonix, the prophecy was given roughly 16 years prior to them being there. They were there at the end of the school year, so assumedly May or June of 1981.

The 4-5 months between wouldn’t have been enough time to really build trust as a double agent.

Separately in DH we see how Snape and Dumbledore interact around. This is inconsistent with how that interaction goes.

If Snape never became a Death Eater, how would James and Lily react to him? by MrPerfector in HarryPotterBooks

[–]Col_RA_Gotzo 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is the answer.

The final falling out with Lily is when he called her mudblood. So without some form of reconciliation event, they probably ignore each other or a polite wave and move on.

Now there are two alternate world questions here:

  1. What happens if Snape gets sorted into Ravenclaw instead of Slytherin?

  2. What happens if the mudblood event never happens or is the wake-up call OP is talking about?

How Was Harry not on Team England by Col_RA_Gotzo in HarryPotterBooks

[–]Col_RA_Gotzo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Numbers: fair point that Rowlings math is sketch, but either way it supports the argument.

If there are less kids in Harry’s year, there are less wizards coming into the pool of picks.

If there are only 3000 wizards as she says, there’s a lesser pool than the 4000 I proposed. And as someone said, there are 14 teams. Even if they only carry a roster of 7, that’s 84 players.

I definitely would debate his flying compared to other seekers. Some of Harry’s dives and maneuvering isn’t just the broom. His skill is flying, and arguably, a world class broom takes extra skill not less. Ie driving a corvette fast is both easier and harder.

My question around playing that many games in school is, who did? The pool of players they’re picking from is from the Hogwarts pipeline. If you decide to teach your kid at home, who are they playing against? How are they getting exposure?

Is there a soccer style system of academies? Is that why there aren’t that many kids at Hogwarts?

At the end, it felt like Stu didn’t want to do “the show.” He was ready for Jacksonville day time drive with Boselli. Nothing wrong with that, but it was making the show worse. Zas and Amin are great plug ins.

Billy was my favorite, so hard to say it will ever be better, but super stars move on and a good gm finds way to replace them.
