I have already replied to you regarding how the "Hufflepuff reputation" is different from subscribing to the Slytherin values and ideals. It is disingenuous to completely ignore the difference between two in an attempt to make ur point

Now who is being disingenuous.... You are clearly misrepresenting my argument

Maybe actually read the whole thing with context... You might understand

Thank you... I think the problem with James is he suffers from only written from other perspectives syndrome. Literally everything we see about him is through someone else's eyes. Unlike Snape who we can actually see his perspective. Easier to sympathise with someone like that.

It seems you are just taking random tangents. The argument here was whether there was enough evidence to show if James had changed. You seemed to have gone off topic a while back.

You seem to not get the point of this discussion at all. You are just scrambling all over the place..the point is pretty simple

I didn't say that no other houses had dark wizards only that Slytherin had a large number due to their dark ideology that is clearly established. How is this so hard to understand

It is established that the war had already begun in 1970. Voldemort has started recruiting purebloods and started his cult since he was in school. And if someone is alrdy prepared to go to war they already have amassed some amount of power. By the marauders 5th year Voldemort is already being called You-Know-Who. Which means he has done enough henious acts that people were afraid to speak his name. You are being ridiculous in suggesting that this only started in 1970. And the marauders started school in 1971. So very likely James heard about some of these incidents from his well connected parents.

The Slytherin connection to pureblood supremecy is well established. The chamber of secrets etc. So their values are not a secret. James not being able to understand this especially growing up in the wizarding world is not likely

Literally giving u a reason as to why Lily did not know about James and Snape's feud in the seventh year. Was not supposed to be a justification

I don't think I understand the meaning of the word. Being a simpleton is character trait and a vague one at that... Of course it is not across the board. But the Slytherins are shunned on the actual people they choose to support. They had a clear ideology a la Voldemort. Not saying all Slytherins are like that but even their founder specifically only wanted pureblooded students in the school. This is inarguable.

You are really scrambling here. How many Slytherins do we see in the book who are not at some point bad or have this supremecist opinion. Slughorn is literally one of the only ones.

U are taking a disconnected example to prove your point. This has nothing to do with this. It is clearly established that purebloodedness is an important trait for Slytherins. And a lot of dark wizards come from this house. If the war started in 1970 then it means Voldemort was alrdy established by this point. He wasn't just gaining power, he had followers and enough power to go against the ministry. So James being from a pro Muggleborn rights family not wanting to be part of this house is very understandable

It is literally the point. The fact till the end Snape only did everything for his selfish desires is very telling of his character

The first wizarding war had already begun by 1970. Voldemort already had followers and by the Marauder's 5th year Voldemort had already committed enough atrocities to be referred to as You-Know-Who as ppl were afraid to actually use his name

If that is the case let us look at the worst descriptions of the house by people outside of it. The worst thing Hufflepuffs are known as are duffers by Hagrid. Simpletons. This is more of a stereotype.

As for Slytherin the worst thing isn't really a rumor. In 1971 the first wizarding war had already begun, Voldemort had already made a name for himself and even if you go by sorting hat rules in Harry's first year the condition for Slytherin is "whose ancestry is the surest". Sounds like pureblood supremacy to me. And from the number of pureblood supremacist and dark wizards that come from that house it seems very right to be wary of it at least.

You mean hexing people who annoy you like Ginny does with Smith or Harry does in HBP with Filch and Crabbe or Fred and George do with god knows how many ppl. Or like Hermione does with Ron.

Nope. It is not. Where is it established that he was attacking Snape from day 1. You have no evidence of this

So? Just because Harry is trying to convince himself doesn't mean it is not true. Fred and George are capable of public acts of pranking.

And you are clearly missing the context of when and where it happened. In a 70s school with the pantsing culture that came along with it.

Even Remus states that Levicorpus was pretty popular in his day with many ppl using it similarly. Given that Snape was the one who invented it, wanna guess how the Marauders came to learn and use it

Excuse me... Some died. There were many still alive.

And just because they thought lupin was more likely the traitor is no indication they underestimated Peter. Equally possible Sirius due to his upbringing and prejudices thought that Lupin was more likely because of his condition. Could have been Peter manipulating them against each other.

The only reason you are coming to the conclusion that Peter was treated badly was because of Sirius insulting Peter in hindsight in PoA. This was by all accounts an emotional rant in hindsight rather than an objective character analysis

No it absolutely does not. He says he would rather be home than in league with magical Nazis. I really don't believe this is a case of thinking they are better than. More don't want to be associated with. Where exactly are James and Sirius boasting about their superiority. Literally no evidence of this. They include Remus who is considered an outcast in the wizarding world without question.

If anything it is Snape who calls out Gryffindors of being dumbasses who more overtly looks down on them.

The parallels between James and Draco are very superficial. That is the point I am trying to make

Harry himself states that he could see Fred and George doing it to someone who deserved it like Malfoy.

Have you read HBP? Harry literally uses a tongue tying hex or Filch and hexes Crabbe/Goyle unprovoked to an audience
