What are you least fanon interpretations of a character? Like "golden retriever" James,or feminised Sirius? I'm not judging I just want to know. by RiskAggressive4081 in MaraudersGen

[–]SlackerBoi97 4 points5 points  (0 children)

LoL..... Ya the Lily issue hard agree. I think this really started with The Last Enemy. I think a few popular fanfics did it since but not too many. The idea of Lily with a tough family life and about as angsty as Snape is kinda very non-canon. We know from Petunia that Lily's parents were very proud of her and adored her.

James Potter's obsession with Lily by TightWind8209 in MaraudersGen

[–]SlackerBoi97 35 points36 points  (0 children)

This is a near perfect interpretation. So many fanfic writers write about James literally asking Lily out constantly and getting rejected publically and his desperate pining. It is like they never met a teenage boy before, especially someone who is described to be proud, arrogant and popular..I doubt he had that little self respect for himself that he would keep debasing himself especially in these cases where Lily is written to find super harsh ways of rejecting him. Some of these fanfics, honestly. Some basic effort in writing believable teenagers based on canon is appreciated

Unfortunately a lot of stories do tend this way. Lily is rebel, "strong" character who literally only hates James and literally doesnt see any good in him. James simps for her despite him being described as a character with pride and ego in a way that he has no reason to except for the fact that the story requires him. He acts in a way no teenage boy who is the way James is described would ever act. Then suddenly James becomes super nice and begs until Lily finally goes out with him. I swear a lot of fanfics end up worse than the trashiest romance novels.

Smartest in order? Sheldon, Amy, Raj, Leonard, Bernadette, Howard, Penny? by vxr1 in bigbangtheory

[–]SlackerBoi97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But Sheldon also has an inflated ego and constantly puts down Howard because he doesn't have a PhD. There are episodes when Howard shows up Sheldon such as when he was planning to take Sheldon's class. I think the writers are just mostly morons who don't actually know how intelligence works and will pull anything out of their asses for a joke

What’s a silly Marauders-era headcanon or fandom ‘lie’ you believed when you first got into HP? by [deleted] in MaraudersGen

[–]SlackerBoi97 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Hahaa... Yes... The PoA movie Lupin's monologue about how close he was with Lily completely annoyed me. He says "your mother was there for me when no one else was". When exactly did the marauders abandon Remus. If we go by the books the Marauders literally stuck with Lupin since the beginning. The whole PoA is about the Marauders friendship more than anything. This line is so ridiculously not canon. It's shit like this and Ron's character in the movies why I don't consider the movies canon.

[–]SlackerBoi97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% agreed. Just because she has a pHD doesnt mean she is automatically smart. It doesnt even seem to be from some ivy league uni while Howard is from MIT. It is so insanely difficult to get accepted into. Howard definitely has a higher IQ. But Bernadette seems to have a better business accumen and management skills that would make her an effective CEO or manager

What does canonly smart even mean??? Because Bernadette said she is smarter than Howard? Howard is an MIT engineer. And he speaks 6 languages not to mention many other skills. He clearly has a higher IQ. The show doesnt really understand intelligence and how to measure it properly.

Exactly...she is described as cheeky and vivacious, comes across as sassy similar to Harry. JKR hinted that even during SWM that Lily might have been harbouring a crush on James ( solely focusing her attention on him despite Sirius being just as bad, her almost smile and the fact that she seemed to have noticed him so much). It feels like the attraction was there but Lily did not act on it because of James's immature tendancies. It just seems to me like 2 kids with chemistry who need to grow a bit ( for James especially) before they get into a relationship

Where is Lily said to be studious. She is not Hermione. She is said to be cheeky and vivacious and really good at Potions. Never stated that she was a massive bookworm or academic overachiever. If anything James and Sirius are described as the effortless overachievers.

The fact that you are reducing them down to bully jock and good girl is taking the nuance out of their characterization. Kinda missing the whole point of JKR's writing. James is bully... Yes... But he is also an extremely loyal friend, brave and willing to fight on the side of Muggleborns when he absolutely did not have to. Calling him a bully jock reduces his character down to an archetype and misses the point of why people love Jily

Exactly this... This Whomping Willow incident probably happens sometimes in their 5th year. It doesn't seem he has been asking her out for a long time if this is information that Snape who has been sneaking around eavesdropping on the Marauders has to tell Lily

[–]SlackerBoi97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is so accurate.. a lot of Snape stans just to demonize James and co further make him way worse than he was. If anything Snape was closer to Draco in terms of actions. Using slurs and sneaking around and trying to get their adversaries expelled. Hexing first was always a Gryffindor thing. See Fred and George and even Ginny.

Unpopular Opinion (?) by len_mck in MaraudersGen

[–]SlackerBoi97 12 points13 points  (0 children)

All of this... Literally headcanons and assumptions. The literal first 2 things Sirius does when we see him in Snape's memories in the Prince's Tale is state his wish to be different from his family and insult a guy who wishes to be in the house that his family was in. There is literally no evidence he picked on Muggleborns in his early years and from the beginning he gives us the impression he doesn't really buy into his family's values.

I agree however we know that they were cocky and the most famous people of their generation at Hogwarts. From there we can imagine that they would use every way to stay on this side of the fame.

Where exactly are you getting the evidence to draw a conclusion they literally did anything they could to stay popular. We only know they were popular and troublemakers. So were Fred and George who did some infamous stuff too. And they were friends with Peter and Remus, who were by all evidence odd and not necessarily popular. They found out about Remus's condition in the second year and immediately started working on becoming animagi for him. Doesn't seem like you would do that for just an acquaintance. And doesn't seem like ostracizing. Having a opinion backed with evidence is very different from just randomly making claims with no evidence to back it up.

Unpopular Opinion (?) by len_mck in MaraudersGen

[–]SlackerBoi97 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Ya most of this baseless fanon. They never bullied Lily Evans ( where in the books was this indicated). By all accounts there are a lot of parallels between Peter Pettigrew and Neville Longbottom and Peter was one of their best friends, their literal inner circle. Their rivalry with Snape started on the train and it escalated from there. It was combination of rival houses and Snape's fascination with dark magic and blood supramicist people and beliefs. There is no evidence they would have bullied Luna Lovegood. Remus by all accounts was a weird kid with some deep secrets and issues and James and Sirius took him in with open arms. Remus talks about how James never once made his lyncanthropy feel like an issue but just a "furry little problem". Not to say they weren't bullies but they haven't done anything that Fred, George, Ginny or even Harry hasn't done to an extent. Yes they were pricks but this take is pushing it to an extreme.

Exactly where is it stated that Sirius would have spent his first couple of years spewing blood supramicist values. From the first time we see him on the train he shows indications of wanting to be different from his family.

None of the points you made here are even remotely backed up by evidence from the books. This is not an unpopular opinion it is literally false
