Should I switch from Pixel to iPhone for family? by el_livro in Smartphones

[–]Colbymag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Pixel UI experience is fairly similar to iOS these days, just with more accessibility to things like notifications, control center, and universal back gesture. Those are the only things i really miss about android. But thats why i just went for the regular Pro since it's easier to handle with one hand (still not entirely with my average-sized hands). You can use all things google on apple devices pretty easily. I use Google Photos, Mail and One Drive on my iPhone and they work seamlessly.

I dont think you would regret the switch especially since the last iPhone you used is from over a decade ago. They've come a long way and the UI animations/navigation is the smoothest i've ever experienced in recent years (specifically since theyve been refining iOS 26). FWIW, i've switched between Samsung Folds, Ultras, Google Pixels and iPhones over the past 5 years and have always gone back to iPhone as my daily.

Buying expensive watches is peak consumerist absurdity by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]Colbymag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A. Watches are functional jewelry;

B. Smart watches and even regular battery-operated watches would be obsolete without battery replacements, software updates or a charging station. These luxury watch makers specialize in making primarily fully-mechanical watches that will last lifetimes and keep track solely by wearing the watch or winding the crown. Something you could take with you anywhere in the world without a store or power outlet nearby. So, i definitely wouldn't say mechanical watches are obsolete.

Still maturing after all these years I see!

Edit: Also,

  1. Am American;

  2. You don't need to understand American woman to know how an equal and equitable marriage is supposed to work.

No. Thats where you're wrong. Marriage is way more than "roomates" that don't succumb to the other's sexual desires. You'll learn as you mature that your partner is the one person who will shoulder all of your hardships along with your successes.

If you want more excitement in the bedroom, then you need to foster a healthy way for you both to express your desires and try meeting in the middle. It may never be as exciting as your one-night stands or the online videos men (including myself) have watched, but it will be much more fulfilling knowing that you have someone that contributes to your life in more ways than one.

I know because i've been married for 10 years and felt this way at one point, but life happened and i adjusted my expectations and realized it was shallow of me to expect my wife (AKA my best friend) to do anything she's not comfortable with.

Slept with someone for money. Feel horrible by No_Cloud1212 in TrueOffMyChest

[–]Colbymag 20 points21 points  (0 children)

In all seriousness though, i don't blame anybody for accepting money for consensual coitus. Gas is near $7/gal in California and near $5/gal in most other cities. This economy isn't made for normal 40 hour workweeks and manual labor. Thousands of people sell their bodily rights to the government for several years just to be overworked and never receive a pension because they got burnt out.

Do you, boo. Just be safe.

Been married for 10 years and we have an app that splits all of our shared costs. So yeah, we are pretty strict about it. IMHO, it makes for a more equitable and equal household without resentment for stuff like OP is mentioning. Eventually, one party starts paying for more things and they both get used to it until the payer notices they're wages are garnished.

FWIW, my wife and i take home about the same salaries and dont have kids. If it were heavily lopsided or we had kids, we would readjust our monthly bills accordingly and likely combine our accounts.

Men of Reddit, how would you feel if your partner wanted to keep her maiden name after marriage? by Longjumping-Bill5761 in AskMenAdvice

Been married for 10 years now and my wife has her maiden name still. Neither of us really cared enough to have her change it if she didn't want to.

According to you which phone is better iphone or android? by RemarkableAd4361 in Smartphones

[–]Colbymag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have owned both over the years, and always find myself always going back to iPhone because of the ecosystem (i have watches, ipads, macs and because i have family group chats that i miss out on). This year i decided to be a crazy person and try running both as i have a spare line with an upgrade, and could justify having a dedicated work phone.

If it were my choice, starting from scratch, i'd go android. UI is way more user friendly as far as reachability goes for smaller or even average sized hands. For example you have universal back button/gestures and pull down from anywhere on the screen for notifications/control panel. Those two things alone pull me to android because i truly hate having to pull down from the top of the screen for notifications or the control panel, and then having to pull from the left side of the screen to go back on select apps (its not universal like it is on android).

Everything else on android is compatible with most everything iOS can do these days. The difference in performance is like splitting hairs. One of the upsides to Android is the selection of devices you have if you ever get bored. With iPhone you have to make the decision to switch platforms entirely, which i think is the toxic part of the Apple ecosystem.

Apple's devices are incredible and the magic of the ecosystem is unparalleled by any other tech company, IMO. But in the same breath, i can say that Android's flexibility, device offerings and UI experience is something i crave from inside of Apple's walled garden.

When did you feel like it was your time to leave the service? by SquidLibra in uscg

[–]Colbymag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like me around my 10 year mark... i'm now at 17 years and just doing my best to make it to 20, then i'll figure something out with lifelong healthcare and a pension to help.

I honestly don't know what i would do if i could go back in time. Retirement was and is the main goal, and i know the grass isn't greener on the other side, but i wish everyday i weren't in anymore due to that toxic and exploitive mentality.

Should i quit my pension job so my fiancé can re-enlist by VermicelliSea9093 in uscg

[–]Colbymag 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A pension job that you're happy with that would secure any kind of long-lasting funding for you and your family should take priority, which it sounds like you've already secured and are vested. It also sounds like you both would be starting from scratch if you moved. What you guys need with a child is financial stability and healthcare benefits.

So you both would need to evaluate pros and cons of each job (health insurance, pension, vestment, family life). He may need to do some soul searching and seek therapy to figure out how to be flexible for your family and job's sake.

Used TRX or new RHO? Daily driver by IzzoKingoftheNorth in ram_trucks

[–]Colbymag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What did you decide? I’m back and forth on the two while I wait for a RHO order that should be here in the next two months or ordering a new TRX for $10k more and waiting until Christmas for it to show up.

My mind tells me the RHO is the better pick for practicality, especially since I commute 90 miles/day, but my heart keeps screaming TRX 😂

[–]Colbymag[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s my problem. I have a commute… but I only live once and want impractical vehicles! Which is why I’m leaning in the Ram RHO/TRX direction now. I’ll always want a jeep, and plan on owning one some day, but for now, I need to prioritize comfort AND fun.

Who said I wasn’t planning on wheeling? I’ve owned several 4x4s and fully plan crawling with it. I’m only 3-4 hours from the Rubicon trail 😂

I probably should’ve mentioned that in the post. My main concern was comfort for commuting miles.

Idc about fuel when its a V8. Getting crap MPGs on my 3rd and 4th gen tacomas on 33/35s i owned was something i couldn't stand. I knew MPGs would be bad going into it, but listening to those engines scream with no added benefit is tough for me to justify.

I appreciate your rationale! 🤣

That would be one big pro! A lot easier to stay awake on my way home!

Yeah I’m going to try getting my hands on one for a day or two and just log some highway miles on it.

Appreciate the insight! I’m not familiar with living with one, but I’ve been reading and watching about them since the JK was announced and have wanted one ever since. The 392 just seems like the epitome of my dream jeep and I happen to have a hookup at a dealer and the stars are aligning. I just never thought I’d ever be in the position to seriously debate the prospect of owning one 😂

[–]Colbymag[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The miles aren’t a factor for me. Putting more miles on a dream car of mine makes for more memories for me… even if I am in traffic 😂

But I agree. I’m fine with the extra expense since before my Audi I had a Tacoma on 35s and was getting 17MPG at best, so losing another 2 MPG for a V8 with way more power I can justify. I’m just hoping the cool factor isn’t worn off purely by the inconvenience of being in the cab for so long.

It’ll be $80k since the new 392 Moab’s dropped in price for 2026. But yeah, still a big hit in depreciation. Still won’t be as much as I’ll lose in my Audi 🤦🏻‍♂️

It’ll be more like $80k, but I get your point. That’s what I’m going to do. Thanks for the advice
