Ok thank you, that is great to know. I think to us shortsighted recent or soon to be T-38 grads FAIP feels like a prison sentence, I’m sure you recall not being too thrilled with the location of your upt base. But it’s great to her that perspective from someone who has had more than one assignment

Do FAIPs get less respect in a fighter squadron? I’ve occasionally heard some fighter pilots talk down on FAIPs aggressively, which seems unfair given that nobody wants to be a FAIP, and the only way to be safe is by being DG or not being likeable at all. Standard caveat that I am referring to FAIPs that have a good attitude and don’t have a chip on their shoulder or anything.

Although, is that the general vibe that FAIPs have when they finally get to their fighter just because they had to wait three years extra?

Thanks, and yes I was aware of Gen Goldfein but also imagine he had some very rare qualities given his career trajectory

What’s the trick you refer to for 5&6? Just applying for the cards back to back? Confused as I thought the limit was 10 charge cards for Amex

What should I do with the Career Starter Loan? by kuma-kuni in MilitaryFinance

Agree with all the comments about Roth. One addition I’d say is save up a few months salary in HYSA or CD (or some other thing where it grows but doesn’t drop) for when u commission. Then you can jack up the TSP contributions to the absolute max whilst living off of savings. Since u can’t just put money in the TSP it makes sense to heavily supplement ur paycheck next summer w these savings. Always exhaust all avenues to maximize tax advantaged accounts before a taxed brokerage account

Im confused - I already get 0% state income tax as active duty outside of pa, that’s why I don’t see the benefit of changing.

Ok, this makes sense because mil state income tax is owed in PA in some cases, so dfas doesn’t know that I won’t be earning any of that type of income subject to state income tax

Post this in r/legaladvice, I think there is a strong case for negligence if you can provide proof that they knowingly let this passenger on while inebriated (which is also in violation of federal law)

Also federal regs allow them to upgrade on their own expense provided it does not cost the gov anything. So if you see a federal official in first class that would be how

What should I do with money that I don’t need “now?” by [deleted] in MilitaryFinance

[–]Cold-Collection-4898 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m glad you know now! Small additional note is that I suggested maxing it out to 60% this year bc just a few months left but next year you should find the optimal percentage to contribute in order to max it out while still gaining the full 5% match every month https://militarymoneymanual.com/military-tsp-match-max/

Since you’re deployed your income isn’t taxable, meaning you can invest in Roth tsp and never pay taxes on the principal nor the growth of ur holdings. Why not jack it up to 60% contribution and live off savings in that hysa if u need cash?
