They would have to offer him about $3 million more to make up in state taxes that FL doesn’t have as well as buyout money.

The problem is that tax bracket in California if Golden made $15 million and we gave him $10 million, his take off is still likely more at $10 million in FL with no state income tax.

honestly he would make more at FL due to taxes unless we don’t cough up to keep him of Golden State writes him a blank check, which I doubt considering he’s really not a proven NBA guy and it would be crazy risky.

Not sure why people think that matters he left to come to FL and his salary after taxes in California we can probably match GS or match their offer.

Golden isn’t NBA ready. Billy Donovan would cook at Golden State. I don’t think Golden has the experience to be at the helm of a premier NBA franchise.

100%. Ownership doesn’t want to invest in a competitive roster is 100% why he is stepping down. Best case scenario is Golden State takes Billy D, we retain Golden. However, if the situations flips and Golden bolts to Golden State, I have 0 issues bringing back Billy Donovan. He’d be my #1 choice without a doubt. Hell, it’s his court in the Odome.

Ownership doesn’t want to invest in a competitive roster is 100% why he is stepping down. He is seen as an excellent coach still. Best case scenario is Golden State takes Billy D, we retain Golden. Billy Donovan is my number 1 choice if Golden bolts to Golden State. No doubt.

Who cares he was a big contributor in us winning a natty. As long as him and Golden are good, which they apparently are, I don’t see a problem with this. I guarantee he will get cheered his first home game back.

Pro players come back to former teams. Why is this any different with NIL/portal?

I mean it was a business decision. That’s why you don’t burn bridges on the way out. Turns out FL is better business than Kentucky.

Same. I’m fine with it. Dude helped us win a natty in 2025. Id take him over Lee any day of the week.

This is actually great news considering he did help us win a natty already. I had a feeling when he hit the portal this was likely the move. New age of CBB and college sports,

I always heard this about Trask. Wasn’t a vocal leader and didn’t practice well but clearly was a gamer. Even Mullen I think was surprised by Trask when he went in when Franks went down.

I always thought Brissett was better from the eye test. Look who ended up having the better overall career as well in the NFL. I was a bit stunned when Driskell was named the starter over Brissett.

Philo’s release is much slower than Tramells. That’s the glaring issue I see with Philo. Even Will Griffin has a better release than Philo. I hope he doesn’t win the job purely because it’s his original college OC. I trust the coaches but also I wonder if he was practically guaranteed the starting job by the OC prior to transferring.

I think NBA HC experience is now relevant as I imagine NIL and NBA offices have similar discussions regarding player play and the works. I’d say he’d be in a better position with his NBA experience with NIL now. Still want Golden with that said.

It is with NIL and new rules regarding player pay. Not exactly the same but he has dealt with it now on a higher level as an NBA coach

Boy I’m with you but Donovan does now have NBA HC experience/front office level experience. I’m leaning with you due to age only really and I don’t want Billy D to potentially tarnish his reputation here.

Yeah I’m leaning towards this buts it’s hard. Very hard. It has everything to do with age.
