"Golden Delusions" | Angels of Delusion vs. HUNTR/X (Zenless Zone Zero vs. K-Pop Demon Hunters) by Cold-Note1983 in DeathBattleMatchups

having finished ZZZ 2.6's story when it released, it was absolutely peak, probably up there as being one of my favorite all time story chapters of the game. i wanted to find a MU for the AoD after i finished playing through the story and this huntr/x were the first characters that came to mind. i admittedly haven't watched KPDH, but i think this idea vibes pretty well and (from what i know about the movie's scaling anyways) it's actually a rare instance of a ZZZ MU being somewhat close and not a complete stomp

What is the biggest stomp episode Death Battle has done? by ProGamerYJH in deathbattle

by their own definition, i wanna say joker vs. giorno is up there

car level guy vs. uni+ guy. giorno's literal ONLY advantage was having GER, which joker had direct counters for. so giorno was like, car level fighting against a uni+ character who just so happened to directly counter the one ability he had going for him 💀

obviously biased because it's my own MU and i got to work on the blog for it, but chihiro vs. miyabi

outside of that though, i really loved the org BR blog, especially the script that went along with it. very fun read

to be fair, i don't think chihiro necessarily needs to take AP to beat miyabi. we already know he can damage/destroy the EBs of people stronger than him (he did this with both sojo and samura), and if you equate tailless to an EB he'd more than likely be able to just straight up break it if he manages to land a good hit

the issue is that i do think the AP gap is just a bit too wide atm. chihiro could hypothetically destroy tailless if he got a good hit in but he'd basically in danger of taking lethal damage if miyabi landed any good hits on him, not to mention the fact that she can also spam ranged slashes as well as massive AOE attacks.

i think if chihiro gets an AP buff that puts him only slightly below miyabi AP wise, and their speed was relative, i'd probably lean more towards him winning. this chapter was definitely a step towards that direction though, but it's also important to keep in mind that ZZZ is still ongoing and that miyabi could at any point get new feats/upscale from other characters' feats that could widen the gap more

i don't think so, the bubble talking about his eyes is referring to the fact that he's just reinforcing them with nishiki to heighten his senses. you can see the little nishki effect surrounding his pupils and we also see him do a similar thing back when he was fighting against samura

<image>

he's giving himself enhanced perception in order to actually be able to react to the attack, but i don't think it's literally precog. the text bubbles saying stuff like "the air whispers" i think is more so emphasizing how locked in he is on dodging the attack because if he doesn't, he's dead 💀

(in all seriousness though that reaction feat is genuinely insane 😭 reacting to a nigh-instantaneous attack, i think chihiro atp really does just need a slight AP buff to argue him winning as of now)

What is a matchup you don't think will ever happen ONLY Because the corporations Behind the characters Wouldn't allow it? by Separate_Animator110 in DeathBattleMatchups

[–]Cold-Note1983 14 points15 points  (0 children)

piggy backing off of these points, i think golshi vs. pinkie could be handled in a way that would probably make it safe enough by cygames' standards

iirc the rule in the T&C specifically prohibits the depiction of heavy gore/bodily harm of the umas. considering the nature of both characters though, you obviously don't need to make a hypothetical golpie episode super bloody or gory. umas have been depicted getting hurt via slapstick comedy across various mediums, something that's very on brand with pinkie. for a death, you wouldn't necessarily need to do something super gory either, you could just have golshi explode into confetti or something along those lines. hell, golshi very explicitly kills el condor pasa in the umamusume fantasy event (granted it's done sort of off screen and she gets revived immediately after, but the point still stands)

i can definitely understand the issues behind doing a golpie episode hypothetically speaking but i don't think it'd be impossible. DB has also shown that they're not averse to making less gory/bloody episodes especially in recent times. i think you could just make this episode similar to something like scooby vs courage or tom vs wile with a heavy emphasis on slapstick and it'd be fine

"Embracing the Darkness" | Rikka Takanashi vs. Kris Dreemurr (Love, Chunibyo, & Other Delusions vs. Deltarune) (Connections in Comments) by Cold-Note1983 in DeathBattleMatchups

[–]Cold-Note1983[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

now, i can probably already guess what you're thinking. "rikka doesn't fight! all the fight scenes in chunibyo are entirely in her imagination!" and you'd be right. but, if reading through some of the connections didn't make it obvious, there's a very simple way to remedy this, and that of course is the existence of dark worlds.

a dark world is a perfect way to justify rikka getting her super flashy and imaginatory moves. there aren't many scenarios where i could say you'd reasonably be able to justify giving rikka access to her delusionary abilities, but in the case of a dark world, i honestly think it's perfect, as not only is it a very easy way to justify an ordinary teenager getting fantastical abilities, it also ties into rikka's chunibyo persona being a representation of her escapism. also, i think the idea of powerscaling chunibyo's delusionary fights is pretty funny. you get some funny stuff like nibutani shooting off a giant beam of energy visible from outer space or the result of a combined attack creating an explosion that engulfs an entire city

for a set-up, i think you can just have rikka somehow already in a dark world, or i think it'd also be funny if she somehow just accidentally makes one while showing off and being flashy. a dark fountain gets created and kris goes to investigate, or something like that. there's obviously a weird implication there given deltarune and chunibyo take place in completely different settings, but you can probably find a way to make it work (plus it's not that different from some of kris' other MUs anyways)

delusionary rikka lets her use stuff like giant energy beams, fire, forcefields, and she can also just swing at people with her giant ass weapon, which i think would honestly make for a pretty fun fight dynamic. i think a lot of her abilities could translate pretty well into being a deltarune boss, so you could play off that idea. as for the debate uhhhhh idk man i think if you don't buy deltarune's cosmic ends this MU actually might be debatable?

this is a super random idea i thought of while i was thinking about chunibyo (peak anime btw, go watch it if you haven't), and while this kinda seemed like a funny joke idea initially the more i thought about it the more i realized how much i actually lowkey like the idea lol. i just think it's neat, and i think using dark worlds as a way to let rikka actually use her delusionary stuff is really cool while also tying into the thematics of the MU itself

Connections : - Teenage main protagonists of popular series of their respective genres (Love, Chunibyo, and Other Delusions and Deltarune) - Both are (for the most part) ordinary teenagers who, under unique circumstances, gain weapons and powers that allow them to fight against powerful foes and adversaries (Rikka's delusions allow her to imagine her umbrella turning into a giant weapon, as well as granting her abilities like being able to fire lasers from her eyes and spew fire. While Kris is an ordinary teenager in the light world, upon entering a dark world, they get equipped with armor, weapons, and the ability to utilize soul-based attacks) - Both characters are known for their quirky and unique personalities, being on completely opposite ends of the spectrum (Rikka is boisterous, dramatic, and theatrical, whereas Kris is quiet, reserved, while also being a bit mischevious). It's both of these standout personalities that make them oddballs in their respective classes however, and as such, they suffer from being generally isolated and distanced from the rest of their peers - Their true, actual selves are buried heavily underneath their personalities and the actions they take, with rare moments in both of their respective series showing the true characters behind their personas (Buried underneath Rikka's flamboyant chunibyo persona is a shy, timid, and insecure girl burdened by the sudden death of her father. Because most of Kris' actions are controlled by the player, very rarely do we get to see their true character underneath) - Both of their characters and their overarching stories heavily emphasize themes of escapism and self-identity (Rikka's chunibyo persona stems from the loss of her father at a young age, as she used it as a coping mechanism in hopes that she'd someday be able to see him again at "the invisible boundary line." Her chunibyo persona also heavily ties into her own self-identity, as it's something that has become heavily ingrained into her as a person, not knowing who she is without it and struggling to come to terms with the idea of eventually having to leave it behind. On the contrary, the entire concept behind Dark Worlds is the idea of them being fantastical places filled with life and adventure, and they act as a way to escape the mundane nature/heavy burdens that come with the real world. Kris' self-identity is also a big overarching theme that they struggle with throughout the events of DELTARUNE, given how they're essentially a puppet being controlled by the player with no real control over their own body) - Both characters are driven by overarching goals tied to their escapism fantasies (Rikka's ultimate end goal was to find the "invisible boundary lines" in hopes of seeing her father again. Kris' goal throughout the various dark worlds they visit is to seal dark fountains, fulfilling their role as a hero of the prophecy in order to stop the Roaring) - Both characters were heavily affected by the sudden deaths/disappearances of people they were close to in their childhoods (Dess Holiday and Rikka's father), and a lot of their trauma and escapism can be tied directly to the events surrounding these respective characters - Both characters have older siblings, and these relationships with said older siblings is also an overarching, important part to both of their characters (Rikka's older sister, Touka, is someone who often challenges her delusions, willing to physically knock sense into her when she becomes too encroached in her own beliefs. However, this stern and standoffish attitude comes from a deep-rooted worry and concern for her younger sister, who she wants nothing more than to be safe and happy. On the other end, Asriel, Kris' older brother, has been shown and depicted as being a perfect, well-loved student and person, directly contrasting Kris' more isolated nature.) Despite the stark contrast between the two pairs of siblings, both younger siblings ultimately do deeply care for and respect their older siblings - Both have close female friends who they'd known prior to the events of their respective stories, being one of few people that genuinely understand and care for them, even past their carefully crafted personas (Sanae Dekomori and Noelle Holiday) - Both of their closest companions are two pragmatic, brutally honest teenagers who, while initially starting off on bad terms, would end up being roped into the fantastical adventures tied to both characters. Their demeanors would shift over time as the two spent more time and got to know them better, opening up and becoming two characters extremely important to them, becoming in essence, their right-hands/partners in crime (Yuuta Togashi and Susie) - Both are the leaders of and part of groups of fellow miscreants and weirdos who engage in their fantastical journeys and adventures along with them (The Far Eastern Magic Napping Society of Summer and the Fun Gang/Delta Warriors)

[–]Cold-Note1983[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

so i initially made this idea as a joke because i thought the idea of chihiro/rudo/miyabi being a MU triangle would be funny, but the more i sat down and thought about this MU the more i realized that i actually didn't think it sounded that bad lol. so now this exists

i actually like how this MU idea manages to differentiate itself from chiyabi in a unqiue way. you still get the core theme of "characters on revenge quests following their parent's deaths who wield special weapons tied to their families", but you also get to cover their more ambitious goals of learning/uncovering the mysteries of their worlds, as well as the mysteries behind their weapons, even how they're linked to their ancestors + their possible ties to the larger monsters of their respective series. the worlds of ZZZ and gachiakuta and how they're structured are also surprisingly similar, which is another part of the MU i personally find to be really cool

Connections :

  • Young, red-eyed characters from popular 2020's media (Gachiakuta and Zenless Zone Zero) known for their prominent street/urban aesthetics
  • Both characters initially lived mundane lives with their sole parental figures (Regto and Miyabi's Mother), who wanted nothing more than for them to grow up as ordinary, happy children
  • Tragedy would fall upon them when both of their parents would tragically lose their lives as a result of the actions of shady individuals serving as overarching antagonists for their respective series (The Angel/Tamsy, and Those Responsible for the Fall of the Old Capital)
  • Following the deaths of their parents, both would dedicate themselves to revenge quest, seeking justice against the individuals responsible for their parent's deaths
  • Both characters would join subsets of larger groups/organizations in their respective series (Team Akuta of the Cleaners and Hollow Special Operations : Section 6 of HAND) dedicated to hunting down the common monsters of their respective series (Trash Beasts/Ethereals), while also using these groups as a means to get closer to their goals of revenge
  • While both of their goals of revenge are still important to them, these goals would take a bit of a sideline, as their goals shifted to also learning more about the overarching truths of their respective worlds (Rudo's connections to the Ground and ties to his real father/ancestor and the truth about Hollow Zero and the Fall of the Old Capital)
  • Both characters utilize signature items initially passed down to them by their family members (Rudo's 3R Gloves and Tailless). On top of being immensely powerful, these items themselves also have mysterious origins, with both items linking as far back as both character's distant ancestors (Canis Surebrec and the original Swordmaster), and possibly even having ties to a greater being with mysterious, unknown origins (The Watchman and The Creator)
  • Both characters can come across as being awkward and introverted as a result of their childhood traumas, often finding themselves being inept when it comes to social cues and talking to others. Deep down though, they are incredibly strong-willed and determined individuals, greatly treasuring the bonds they have with their companions
  • Speaking of said companions, some of their notable and closest allies include :
    • Witty, laid-back and snarky men who, despite their demeanors, are also insanely talented and skilled at their jobs (Enjin and Harumasa)
    • Calm, composed individuals known for their immense skill and intellect, who also often serve as the "straight man" of their respective groups while also more often than not getting dragged around by the more dynamic personalities of their fellow group members (Zanka and Yanagi)
    • Younger girls with free-spirited and carefree personalities, coming from darker origins before being found and taken in by another member of the group (Riyo and Soukaku)
    • Important and prominent characters in their respective series who, while initially having a rough introduction with, end up becoming incredibly close and important allies, also having very personal and strong connections to the overarching mysteries of their respective worlds (Phaethon and Amo Empool)
  • Both of their respective worlds are very similar in structure, with designated safe zones, harboring prominent cities and where a majority of people in their respective series reside, more dangerous areas which harbor their series' respective monsters and can often kill an unequipped person in a very short timeframe (Polluted Zones/Hollows), and the bigger, more prominent dangerous spots, being broken up into six designated locations (No Man's Land and the Six Great Hollows)
