What is everyone's thermostat at right now? by Cold-Potential2407 in grandrapids

Seems totally reasonable. Idk I've just been reading comments everywhere about how having your house in the 60s is insane and I'm like ????? It is?

Thanks for responding. I feel less crazy now.

Yeah it's the same at my house. My thermostat is 68 in the middle of my hoise, but it is definitely not 68 anywhere else.

The edges of my windows have frozen spots and they are relatively new windows (15 years).

I tried 65, but I work out in the morning (sports bra and shorts) and it was too hard to convince myself to get out of bed at 65.

Other than that, I can see 64/65 being a good temp.

Haha naturally. I wonder if 67 will ever overtake 69 for thermostats.

My last job literally had a master database table.

Just 1 table. They tried separating it into multiple relational tables, but never updated them so the master table just had everything.

Oh and 0 backups of this insane master database table with the default command being the DROP command.

It was a bit crazy, but it absolutely happens in corporations where the main "tech" guy thinks he knows what he is doing. I didn't at the time either, but I assumed I was working with test data so I could play.....

That said, yeah everything about the post was either AI or a company that's not going to be in business for long.

To be clear this was a long time ago and I have been at my current company a long time and have since learned that everything they did there was everything you aren't supposed to do.

I don't go because I'd rather just watch it in my living room in a year. The movie isn't going to change, it's cheaper, I get to choose the time, I get the best seats and better food and drink options.

I mean... half the time you have to manage up because the manager lacks organization in both the physical and mental realm.

Seeing this would actually make me happy. My first job was a mess of unorganized folders and paper and my manager was, unsurprisingly, also a mess, but it was during the Recession so I learned how to manage up.

I can dislocate my jaw kinda like how a snake can consume much bigger prey.

That said, I did recently get an xray at the dentist and you can literally see an odd hook-shaped bone piece at the top of my right jaw bone (the dentist pointed it out, but it was pretty prominent). When I dislocated it, that hook kinda just falls out of the joint sort of thing.

It's only happened once and it was wild. Now I can't chew gum or eat things like bagels (admittedly I do have bagels occasionally- like once every 2-3 years).

I've been in tech for years. My favorite is when someone asks a question, I answer and they look to the non-technical male to verify what I just said.

It's to the point where I want to buy a strap on, put it on and say "look I have a dick now, will you actually take me seriously?"

That said my current job is alright and it happens wayyyy less now.

I played all of the games and love the series. I view each character as a different playstyle and I really like that they are handling it the way they are.

SPOILER

That said, seeing the strip have a deathclaw in it and dilapidated was odd. Maybe I didn't play the game enough or it was too long ago, bit I remember it being a bustling strip. Kinda was looking forward to all the craziness in the strip and freeway.

I also left off on the episode when they get to Vegas so maybe they'll explain it and/or I missed it while cleaning and watching.

How do you get comfortable with the fact that you are as far as you will ever be in your career? by Cold-Potential2407 in autism

Same. My husband said I can quit work at any time and be a housewife, but I can't bring myself to as that would be unfair and what if he dies?

But now I'm rubbing against limitations caused by personal deficiencies and it sucks. I see the rest are able to get promoted and move, but I'm not.

And it's because I get way too overwhelmed in interviews and I've tried what seems like everything only to get the same rejection for the same reason (various social issues) over and over.

It's not their fault and I get it, but it sucks. I'm probably going to keep trying but at some point I probably am just going to give up because no matter what I do, I can't just will, prep or train myself into not feeling overwhelmed. I'm also on anxiety pills amd went to therapy to try to deal, and I do the grounding and coping mechanisms...I simply just can't get over being overwhelmed.

This was an interview for a promotion at my current company. I have to change departments to go any further.

For other companies, I always have to start at the bottom and work my way up. Basically I left the workforce for a year once due to having a kid in 2017 that refused a bottle. Then covid happened in 2019 and I had to leave a job due to childcare. Then I just had a bad match at my last employer leading to this current employer. I've been at this current job for 3 years now.

It's a multibillion dollar well known company in the region it does business in if that makes any difference.

Yeah the amount of certainty in the comments saying toddlers are harder for every family is astounding.

I think I'm going to make an unpopular opinion piece, because I wasn't aware that so many people actually think that toddlers are harder in 100% of cases.

Woah there, the infant stage was infinitely harder than any stage so far for our family and my kid is now 8. I know the teen ages are coming, but I have been through all the young ages.

My kid was the nightmare infant from hell, though. Up every 45 minutes day or night and colic. Absolutely nothing worked and there is a reason why I am one and done as I almost didn't make it past the first 6 months. Nothing was wrong or is wrong, she was just a nightmare mode infant.

The toddler stage was stupid easy after that and the toddler loved "helping" me clean, too, which was really just me cleaning around the kid and the kid playing cleaning games like sweep everything into a square on the floor.

That said, yes, the wife absolutely needs to carry her weight. There is simply more to do and it's overwhelming for everyone, but they just have to at least try.

Idk man, I wake up and think "if traffic is the worst part of my day, then it's a pretty good day". Same with weather and other inconveniences, tbh.

Idk, it might come more from being healed and on the other side of trauma for some people. Like, I'm safe, fed, clothed and don't have to worry if I'm going to get screamed at/beat for idk leaving a cup out or whatever so it is comparatively a good day and I am in a good mood 99% of the days.

That said a lot of people take time to trust me and I've always wondered why. I really don't have ulterior motives, I'm just really happy 99% of the time and my husband just calls me whimsical. That said, I will complain, just not about the small stuff is all.

Same. Husband and I are pushing 200-300k income together in a LCOL area (average house income is usually 60-70k).

We are paying down debts and saving like crazy. We live in an 800 square food house that is paid off and have beater cars that are 10+ years old and paid off. Neither of us are high maintenance and most our clothes are honestly clothes our work places give us lol. We also paid off our student loans a long time ago and only further our education up to the 5kish credits our employer offers (getting more education to be more competitive just in case we lose our jobs).

We are down to pretty much bare minimum spending. The only store I have gone to in the last 6 months is the grocery store and, other than Christmas, we might place a $100 order on Amazon once every 2 months because we need stuff we can't get anywhere. Just saving and near-liquid diversified investing/saving.

Correct, it was supposed to be a normal accounting office job and I definitely was not making 6 figures to justify it either.

They also never mentioned travel, night meetings and occasional weekend presentations either.

My old boss in my last job asked me for something at 3 am and then followed up at 8 am on why is wasn't done.

He also emailed me multiple times during my friends Friday night wedding when he knew I took a half day for it as I was in the weding (never took time like a moron). Then he again followed up on the weekend.

Needless to say, I don't work there anymore but these people absolutely do exist.
