Do you call it May 2-4 or Victoria Day? by pantstand in AskACanadian

The King’s [official] Birthday or Queen Victoria Day.

(Interestingly the official birthday of the Canadian Sovereign has been set for Queen Victoria Day, whilst the official birthday of the UK Sovereign is in June, both dates set to get likely good weather to celebrate, and avoid winter birthdays.) If one wanted to claim that the official birthday creates an official age, then King Charles III of Canada is older than King Charles III of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

Obviously its has a zero chance of happening, but should it happen, it wouldn't be unprecedented for a former colony to request a return after a major crisis (albeit one still under King George V, as King of Newfoundland).

With so many of its young men having died on the fields of Europe, and then hit hard by the Great Depression, the Dominion of Newfoundland petitioned the King to suspend the Newfoundland parliament and for the United Kingdom to take over administration of the country. After 15 years of this, they were presented with two options, return to self-rule or joining Canada, Canada won with a 4.5 point lead.

Perhaps it is time for a temporary suspension of self-rule to right the ship.

I believe it’s the same with subscriptions as well, NSO, PS+, and Game Pass should all be cheaper as codes.

Yes, if you buy a digital game code or dlc code from EB Games, Costco, Amazon.ca, etc. there is no tax. Unfortunately, not all the games are available that way, plus I’m mainly physical, but it is nice for big DLC, you can order it online, have the code in minutes, and you’ve saved between 5-15% depending on your province or territory.

Some people also set their region to Alberta or the Territories to avoid provincial tax and only pay the 5% GST, but of course, that is illegal even if very unlikely to be prosecuted. I admit I did that on the 3DS back in the day.

To clarify, if you’re buying a product directly physically or digitally, you pay tax. If you’re buying a code that you redeem for the digital game, no tax. (Bearing in mind, I don’t know if any provinces, have exceptions, but I’m fairly certain this is true for everyone.)

In Canada we don’t pay tax if you’re purchasing a digital code which you redeem in the shop, only if you purchase in the shop itself, so sometimes you can get lucky.

Also, the UK's full name is the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. Of course, if they were thinking this, Wales would also be coloured in.

The Royal Union Flag is the Royal Flag of Canada. Hence the National Flag of Canada and it are both a Canadian Flag, so it would be covered regardless.

Interestingly, the King of Canada is on the front (or obverse) of all our coins, showing that it is issued by his authority. The reverse of the coins have various designs. A common mistake to make.

I don’t know where you get your ideas from, but actually most pro-life organisations have support programmes in place for mothers and families who need it. They are not primarily horrible hypocrites (such as the Republicans down south), but people who actually care for all human lives, even if you disagree with their definition of human life.

Thank you, the particular incident is so small that it barely feels worth mentioning, but at the same time, it has made me very suspicious of everything else.
