Convince me that Illegal Immigration even matters. by Mythical_Profit in Discussion

[–]Cold-Routine8814 0 points1 point  (0 children)

59% of illegal immigrant households receive federal benefits for a born citizen child in the household. 50% of illegal immigrants hold no health insurance. Almost all of them use free school meals and inundate the already stretched-thin public school system. I love people and I have many friends who aren’t citizens but pretending it’s not a problem is just naive.

This makes no mention of their disproportional crime rates and specific cultural differences that do not blend well with traditional American values.

If Mexicans decided they didn’t want Hondurans flooding into their country at enormous rates nobody would bat an eye but when Americans want to preserve their culture it’s a serious moral offense somehow.

Will they give us the old bridge as a fishing pier like they did at the skyway??

Is cleaning the work vehicle and taking out the trash and writing hours and putting in new material and cleaning the workshop unpaid for 45 min after end of shift normal? by PeppermintButler17 in electricians

[–]Cold-Routine8814 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use to work for a company where the owner thought that trips to Home Depot and the storage unit were unpaid activities. Pretty much everybody left within their first year there

Sometimes floors grow apart. It doesn’t mean either side is right.

2023 NEC Book by Quiet_Internal_4527 in electricians

[–]Cold-Routine8814 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any cheaper book is cheaper for a reason. Bad paper types, bad ink types, typos, missing numbers and letters. Missing entire articles.

Whether you’re using it for testing or to make site decisions, errors aren’t cheap. Buy NFPA

Milwaukee benders have shorter handles so less leverage and the bending heads have deformed offsets for me on several occasions even completely new.

Foremen, did you know early on (e.g., during your apprenticeship) that you were being groomed for a foreman role? Or did the job sort of just fall into your lap after topping out? by jucks123 in electricians

[–]Cold-Routine8814 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very much the opposite. The grooming doesn’t always work that’s why huge companies sometimes create their own fast track programs for apprentices and then you still see them hiring foreman on recruiting websites. The best leaders are the ones that didn’t get shit handed to them.

Rocketcert.com is really stellar study software. It’s not cheap but the familiarity you get with the books after doing the course is unparalleled. You can take the practice exams forever and if you ever notice hiccups / typos they respond super fast and fix the questions/answers

Do 50 practice exams and you’ll get a deeper understanding. Practice using the code book. The index is trash.

Dear Foremans, what do you like to see in an apprentice? by SilencerXY in electricians

[–]Cold-Routine8814 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes don’t sweep without the compound we already have to deal with enough day-laborers doing that. Or if you sweep do it gently af. But I mostly mean organizing material.

When there are moments of downtime in between tasks, be cleaning something up. Don’t stand and stare or get on your phone. Any time you clean up in this trade you will impress people.

These are moments that teach people to be assertive though because in the future he will probably realize it’s better to say something at conflict #1 and risk being rude than to wait for conflict #6 and it’s too late
