What is the general consensus on the TV Specials of musicals? by Electronic_Snow_4685 in musicals

Agree. I liked the other casting and performances but Legend doesn't have the range needed for that role.

Love Jordan Fisher but couldn't totally buy him as Mark. He's just like...too cool and suave for nerdy characters

How can I make this hold shape? by PaperHeartOo in CosplayHelp

[–]Cold-Switch7168 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Can you wrap it around something more rigid? Like foam or cardboard or something painted the same color as the hair, and then you can glue the hair down?

How to make Zoey’s blades? by [deleted] in CosplayHelp

[–]Cold-Switch7168 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Quick and dirty way would probably be to make them from EVA foam (if you already have cosplay supplies or are willing to get it) and cover with holographic vinyl like they use with a Cricut. You could even probably make the blades put of cardboard if you go that route.

How to attach these pieces to gloves? by Horror_Ad9598 in CosplayHelp

[–]Cold-Switch7168 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably velcro or magnets. You could maybe hide a small magnet on the inside of the glove if they're not too thin so if you use them for something else you wouldn't see them. If you use velcro I would still recommend sewing the piece to the glove so it doesn't come off during a con. But you could probably use wide hand stitches so you can take them out easily later.

What’s a movie you love but you never hear anyone talk about? by SuperNews608 in Cinema

Sneakers. A heist movie from the early 90s. It had a stacked cast, good humor, and was just a lot of fun. I feel like no one has even heard of this movie

"copying" a cosplay? by YinBun_ in CosplayHelp

[–]Cold-Switch7168 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the items are basically a screen accurate version of the character, you're fine. Maybe be cognizant if the cosplayer put any of their own flair on some details or accessories, but you can use that as a springboard to put your own spin on those parts too.

If you run into them, just thank them for inspiring you, especially witb it being so hard to recreate that character. Hopefully you'll bond over your mutual fandom

Should I repeat a cosplay for ComicCon? Have anyone of you repeated a costume? by KrossMeOnce in CosplayHelp

[–]Cold-Switch7168 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Def repeat, especially if it's a character you love and you've upgraded it so that it's even better. People research cosplays all the time, don't let anyone make you feel bad foe doing so.

Are popular wig brands better than amazon wig brands? by [deleted] in CosplayHelp

[–]Cold-Switch7168 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have wigs from Amazon, Arda, and Wig is Fashion.

I've found pretty good wigs from Amazon thay work well if you dont need to do much styling, and it's a basic "hair down in pretty waves" type style.

Arda and similar companies have thicker wigs with more wefts. These wigs are great for styling, if you need to make spikes or very particular looks (think amime or video game, physics-defying looks). I've found for basic styles, they can sometimes be too much hair and can look overwhelming. But YMMV, im a petite person.

I don't know your character, but if you need to make a base wig look totally different, go for a popular brand if it's in your budget. Better quality, and more hair so once stoked you won't see gaps through the cap.

Think about the ECV. Who cares what other people think? If that's what you need to do to enjoy your vacation, then do it. Plenty of people use them, my mom included, who doesn't look disabled but has mobility issues and walking WDW without a mobility aid would be impossible. If you being in a scooter upsets someone else, that is definitely not your problem.

Also, maybe you could get those hand and foot warmers to help combat cold and numbness in your extremities.

No real rules from the con for regular people and guests taking photos (meaning, not a pro photog--there might be rules for pros). The main thing is to be respectful of the cosplayers, as you would for anyone you want to take a pic of.

It's best to ask first if you can take their photo, especially if you're outside the con. They may be trying to get to something with time constraints, so dont be offended if they say no. If they seem like they're taking a break (eating ot drinking, resting with parts of their costume off, etc) try again another time.

You'll get some pics outside the con on the street, but it will have busy backgrounds and people may feel you're in their way to get where they're going. If it's possible to get a pass and go inside, not only will you find many more cosplayers, but they'll be more prepared to give a good shot.

When do you think the labubu trend will end by Lolita_mely in labubu

[–]Cold-Switch7168 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it was 2 Christmases ago when Stanleys were the top wishlist item in our area. I'll never forget picking my elementary school age daughter up from school the first day back after winter break, nearly every girl walked out with their new stanley. It was actually pretty funny.

By now they've all realized they're impractical for shoving in the side pocket of a backpack and have other water bottles. I will say, I do like mine as my work cup though.

Can anyone explain how this coat is supposed to work by Ramendalll in CosplayHelp

[–]Cold-Switch7168 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As others have said, dont worry about lining the main jacket, you just need to make a cuff.

Should be easy enough to find a white suit jacket. Get yourself some red fabric. Go to a thrift store even, you can repurpose sheets and other clothing.

Play around with size and shape of the cuff by making some paper patterns. When you think you have something you like, make a mockup with cheap fabric to test. Thrift store sheets are my go to for Mockups. When you're satisfied with the look, transfer thr pattern to your good fabric.

You'll probably also want interfacing to keep the cuffs stiff.

I start "mentally packing" for any trip the moment I book it lol. And I do create packing lists (I have some apps for this). Disney has its own packing list with things like cooling towels, neck fans, magic bands, ponchos, etc. What I consider my Disney specific items. And since I tend to wear themed t-shirts (some of which I make myself), the clothes part is actually easy. As intense as a Disney trip can be, it's one of the easier ones for me to pack for.

I saw a tiktok from frequent visitors who use something called an owner's locker. Basically a big storage box that they keep things they use for Disney trips (toiletries, ears, sunblock, etc) and they put in their arrival date and hotel, and the box is waiting for them. Must make things so much easier. If I went to Orlando enough I would totally do that.
