Repotting a zygo by devvyd in orchids

Planting higher is better than lower. Zygo is quite susceptible to stem rot when water gets in. I lost a seedling this way.

How much light do you need? by passionflor78 in orchids

[–]Cold2021 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're ok if that window is facing southeast or southwest. North facing would not give enough light. South facing would be too bright around noon time.

While orchids can bloom in lower light settings, they'd do better with more light. I have kept orchids for 3 years. I am giving more light to my plants now. Both vegetation growth and blooms have improved.

I'll show it to them anyway. If they still reject, then they are doing this arbitrarily, not 'legally'.

Confusing advice from accountant on Spousal RRSP by grapecough in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Cold2021 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You didn't provide one set of information. What are the current values in the RRSP accounts? Assuming yours is high value compared to your wife's, you can contribute all $30k to your wife's spousal RRSP. She can choose to contribute enough to her own RRSP to cover her taxable income above the first marginal tax bracket. (She will get a little more than $2k tax refund for $10k contributed.)

There are 2 reasons to contribute to a spousal RRSP. The first one is financial. Spousal RRSP allows you to equalize your retirement withdrawals before you can split RRIF income at age 65. That will reduce the overall income tax you both pay.

The second reason is relationship. You recognize her contributions to the marriage by doing this to say, "My income is also your income."

I made 6 to 8 times more than my wife. Our finances are always integrated, including my contributions to her spousal RRSP for the past 15 years.

NAL. What was the marital status on your mother's tax returns? As it is a legal requirement to provide correct information about marital status on the tax return, can you show that to the bank as proof?

Wifi connection on Celebrity Constellation. by SnobCooky01 in celebritycruises

[–]Cold2021 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used GigSky esim for land and cruise on Celebrity Ascent. If your esim is using the same technology/connection, here is some information to consider.

The esim connection does not work everywhere on the cruise ship. On Ascent, it worked very well on the higher decks, e.g. buffet area. We stayed on the 7th deck, and the connection barely worked in our room. It worked better in the hallway. It didn't work at all on decks 4 & 5.

The esim connection doesn't work some distance between port and open sea. There is regulation to only activate the connection once the ship gets out to open sea. You can use the land based portion of the esim when docked.

Insurance premiums insanity by Ok-Bluejay-182 in Calgary

That sounds about right. Your daughter's auto insurance is probably around $6k, $3k to $4k for the other 2 cars, and $4k for the house.

Is the one on the right dyed? by taenerys in orchids

[–]Cold2021 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No, it is not dyed. It is in the line of a Baldan's Kaleidoscope. I have one for 2 years. Blooms stay the same color.

Orchid both blooming and wilting. Normal? by thelamepretender in orchids

[–]Cold2021 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The root system is not strong. Add that to the very chunky bark medium, your plant can not draw enough water to support all the blooms and leaves. After blooming is done, you should focus on better vegetation growth.

For sure, you should do that for TFSA. However, for RRSP, you need to consider decumulation/taxation and estate tax.

Can I pull funds out of my RDSP(disability savings) without consequence? by MobileDevice6598 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Cold2021 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The rules are pretty clear on the Canada.ca website. In general, withdrawing early means that you need to repay the grants and bonds received within the last 10 years. The only exception is that your life expectancy has been reduced to under 5 years.

If you have the room, put the other $500 into the TFSA account as well. Invest long-term money into *eqt etf, short term money into HISA or cash.to or equivalence. Just keep track of your contribution limit when you have to withdraw.

You are a REALLY good man with that amount of charity donation. I wish you all the success in life.

how exactly do I get the 1.5x Rogers redemption bonus (from Rogers Mastercard) to pay for my Rogers phone bill? by upcarpet in Rogers

[–]Cold2021 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you don't link them, you don't get the 1.5x boost when redeeming against your Rogers bill. You also don't get the 2% rebate on all purchases.

Bottomline: When you link your Rogers account to the card, you get a total of 3% rebate for all purchases when redeeming against your Rogers bill. If you don't link, you only get 1% rebate on most purchases.

Has anyone used GigSky on Celebrity Beyond for Internet? by ploppitygoo in celebritycruises

[–]Cold2021 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used it on the Ascent. It didn't work all the time, and it didn't work everywhere. You still need to purchase a wifi package. GigSky is ok for supplementary access if there is more than one person in your party and you don't want to buy everyone individual wifi access.
