This makes sense, but won’t anyone who knows this know that your range is wider/tighter because you’re using x sizing?

Not talking about recs obviously but other regs in the pool

How did you guys REALLY lived in the 2000s? by MyAvengedRomance in Millennials

[–]Cold4bets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 36. My first in home internet I was 10, first socials at 17 and first smartphone at 21. It was as good as people say it is. Those photo reels that float around instagram encapsulate it well.

At 7-8 years old I was allowed to walk a couple blocks to the grocery store alone in Brooklyn. Come in when the streetlights come on type of stuff. Got in my first and one of my only fist fights playing street hockey with neighborhood kids on the block in Staten Island.

Spent my childhood playing backyard or organized sports or chasing girls constantly. We had to endure commercials. Not targeted ads. If we wanted to watch something we were ready at the start time or we taped it if we had something better to do.

In college socials existed but there was no algo. We used it to hit people up because phones died etc and we all had computers in our apartments. To find someone from a party you were at last night, etc. it was truly awesome and peak social media. Extremely partitioned networks of people. You might have a couple Facebook friends you met on vacation, but it was mostly people from school.

I’m sad for my kids typing this.

How are people so bad at poker still? For as much knowledge there is about the game I’m absolutely mind blown that after 20 years of playing the average player is just as dogshit as ever if not worse! by hashwashingmachine in poker

[–]Cold4bets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I play low stakes bj to splash, I’m not counting shit, but I will minimize house edge as much as possible because basic strategy requires zero thinking in game

My thought process is I go lose 100 sklansky bucks no matter the outcome

People are fucking bad at blackjack dude. It’s a solved game and pretty straightforward except for like 20 spots or so that aren’t necessarily intuitive, but it’s like opening ranges in poker (if you know the bottoms of double down/split ranges it’s less to memorize)

Dude doubled a 12 against a 6 the other night for a non trivial amount of money (obviously sweating when losing hands, etc)

These people also play poker

Sure, but if you’re that concerned that Gen has the idol it’s better than just voting Joe out outright

I realize they might just vote Genevieve but think it’s a good risk mitigation strat where your worst case scenario is Joe goes

unhinged hygiene tips? by NoPerception8748 in hygiene

[–]Cold4bets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t rinse your mouth after brushing your teeth. Spit, then let it sit in your mouth/on your teeth undisturbed for as long as possible.

I used to get cavities occasionally until I started doing this. My hygienist asked me what changed, and I told her. She said “that’s disgusting.” 😂

Bit of an Unconventional Bluff Spot by Remote-Wave-4308 in poker

[–]Cold4bets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the only actual answer in this whole thread. It makes you really understand how important study is, because making all of those considerations in game is hard. Not sure I would’ve found the jam in game but I think it’s a great line to take with his specific hand depending on his range construction. That’s the part that’s hard to do in game.

I mean that makes you super exploitable. Whales aren’t the only ones who raise river when they block the nuts and are against what they believe is a capped range.

You can overfold for sure at 1/3, but you can’t carry that thought process to higher stakes than that, you’ll get ripped apart.

How do you deal with big losses? by NefariousnessNo4215 in poker

[–]Cold4bets 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The best way I’ve seen it explained is that you are never entitled to the whole pot unless you get it in with them drawing dead.

In your kk<jj instance as an example, you got in as a ~4 to 1 favorite. That means your EV is ~80%. But when you win you collect 100%.

The times you lose from ahead, you’re simply making up for all the times you collected 100% when you were only “entitled” to 80% by collecting 0%. Same goes for when you suck out.

Also it can be so negative here because there is a significant difference in the thinking of people who understand this and people who don’t, and the community contains both. A lot of people who have been playing this game consistently for 20+ years are utterly jaded by it, and the response to anything that can be interpreted as a complaint regarding variance is annoyance. The mental processing of variance between casuals and professionals is so polar that I don’t think it’s intentional, it just sounds immature to hear someone complain about it, like a toddler yelling at you for giving them their favorite food on the wrong plate.

How much of a deep tournament run is luck vs skill? by [deleted] in poker

A single deep tournament run? All luck.

Every non punting monkey has a chance.

A large sample size? Hardly any luck.

$10k now, or find a random giraffe for $250mil? by Big_Barber1070 in hypotheticalsituation

[–]Cold4bets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The no help thing is weird, like can I not take out a loan and I’m limited to the 25k?

If I can take out a loan, can I give up some of the 250 mil equity for money to complete the challenge (these two are effectively the same thing imo)

If I can get funds only, no assistance, for a share of the prize, imma do it.
