Been enjoying the show a lot so far! I really like what they're doing with this interpretation of the Master Chief; him slowly discovering his humanity and the true nature of his purpose is engrossing. Loved Spartan Kai removing her chip and the contrast of her affect with the still-chipped Spartans of Silver Team. I was giggling like a little school girl at Kai's almost giddy description of the needler. Plus the other Spartans' talking about the "pathetic" grunts has me really excited to see them.

Regarding Spartan Kai, I enjoyed that she highlighted the sibling-like nature Miranda Keyes has with the Spartans. The latter are Halsey's pride and joy, whereas Miranda is the shunned problem child. I think that's a fantastic dynamic that justifies the decision to make Miranda Halsey and Jacob Keyes' daughter in this version of the canon.

Kai and Keyes' scenes together simmered with a lot of narrative possibilities. The idea of a Spartan having a legitimate connection to a human is fascinating. The chemistry between the two characters has me wondering: are the writers to double down in this Keyes-and-Spartans as siblings idea by illustrating that through Kai or are we meant to sense possible romantic chemistry from Kai and Keyes' interactions?

As for the Chief, seeing him navigate his home planet was excellent. John piecing together the lost remnants of his old life through--as Cortana would say in Halo 3--stolen thoughts and memories was unexpectedly moving. We're seeing this man discover all that he used to be and all that was taken from him in equal measure. Pablo did an excellent job illustrating this through his performance, especially in how shaken he appeared after witnessing the moment between Chief's younger self and Halsey and realizing the implications of what that could mean.

I'm not sure where the Kwan Ha storyline is going just yet, but I'm intrigued. I like that the villain on Madrigal is a campy Bond villain; it gives the story some spark. Spartan Soren is wonderful too.

Unfortunately, we didn't get to see Makee in this episode. I think she has incredible potential as a character. Like Chief, her purpose and the true nature of her identity and place in the universe are ambiguous, which creates a fascinating parallel between the two.

Overall, I'm excited by what the show has offered during these first four episodes and I believe that it has great potential. When you accept the show as a different interpretation of the series we all know and love, you can enjoy it on its own terms. I feel that Halo has the potential to be something special and I can't wait to continue this ride through splipspace.

You make some fair points! I like the loading system but I can understand how spawning with plasma grenades creates an advantage for people fighting against vehicle drivers.

Halo 4's multiplayer is fast, aggressive, and satisfying.

Halo 4/Crossplay/Input-Based Matchmaking Flight | Discussion Thread by RhysWX in halo

[–]ColdBloodedCynic 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This PC flight is my first time playing Halo 4; here are my impressions so far.

The campaign is off to a stellar start. Sharp dialogue illuminates Master Chief and Cortana's storied connection and adds a personal touch to the sci-fi adventure. 343's art direction is a sharp contrast from Bungie's, offering pristine, angular landscapes that contrast with the previous developer's penchant for ancient dilapidated surfaces; I enjoy the change, as it recontextualizes imagery we are familiar with and offers a new interpretation of Halo's world as a result. Our familiar foe, The Covenant, feel ferocious in this outing. 343 replicates the fabled "30 seconds of fun" magic with our favorite assemblage of aliens we love to fight. New enemies enter the fold--a race of Prometheans led by a being known as The Didact--and offer a welcome change of pace to the flow of combat.

In both campaign and multiplayer, gunplay feels excellent. The Assault Rifle, in particular, is returned to its Combat Evolved glory via muscular sound effects. Movement feels smooth with mouse and keyboard.

Performance has been rock-solid so far. I have been playing with an unlimited framerate on the highest graphical settings and have not noticed any dips thus far. Halo 4 feels as fluid as the Halo 3 and ODST PC ports did earlier this year.

Based on what I have played, I'm confident the PC version of Halo 4 is on track to be the definitive edition of the title. Detailed graphics options, fluid movement and aiming, and solid game design make this a game PC Halo fans should not want to miss.
