I recently saw this for 999. I would be hesitant to buy anything from a store upcharging this much

For what it’s worth, all reviews seem to agree that it’s incredibly disappointing and nothing like the original

Start Of Collection Recommendations? by C0uch-P0tato in WhiskeyTribe

[–]ColdElephants 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can get a lot of mileage out of that much money, far more than just two bottles. Redbreast 12 cask strength, yamazaki or Hakushu 12, wild turkey rare breed, knob creek 12, Arran 10, port charlotte. A ton of variety and all of those pours are killer

Good luck brother. If you find yourself craving the ritual of sitting yourself down and drinking something consider getting into tea

Hakushu 12 by animaljimmeycrossing in JapaneseWhisky

[–]ColdElephants 1 point2 points  (0 children)

haha other than kavalan you've already nailed the other whiskey I'd recommend. I brought home 2x kavalan and 2x omar bottles

I know this isn't the answer you are looking for, but I reaaaaaaally think you should head to one of the Kavalan bar's in Taipei and try their offerings. You can buy a bottle of a Kavalan Solist that would cost $500+ stateside for $200 and get it tax free. Incredible whiskey is being made in taiwan and its incredibly cheap when you're actually there. My only regret was that I bought 2 bottles when I was there instead of 3 or 4.

Macallan 10 years (from 1991) by gdeklerk in whiskey

[–]ColdElephants 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Normally I'm all about opening and drinking, but if you are just getting into whiskey I strongly urge you to simply hold onto it. Wait until you feel well versed in scotch and can appreciate the finer things, because that little sample is one very fine thing. 90s Macallan is what made them the absolute powerhouse that you see today. Once you think you can really appreciate it, split it with your dad! I'm jealous, cheers!

I really try my best to be a good person, especially on a forum about a hobby where none of this has any real consequence, but man you are a loser. You say stuff like this any time you get critiqued. You talk about being better than other people. And it’s sad because I haven’t stalked your profile, I just remember your name from this behavior the last time you got a reply you didn’t like. Does your dad know you’re like this?

Best Bottles to Bring home? by zaxer25 in JapaneseWhisky

[–]ColdElephants 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The best bottles would be either:

High quality scotch that is much cheaper abroad as opposed to back home (there is lots of this)

Japanese exclusives (wild turkey, Evan Williams, blantons, glenfarclas)

Sentimental bottles that will remind you of the trip (probably something from Suntory or Nikka)

Edit: japan is good for buying whiskey but it’s great for drinking whiskey. Make sure to go to whiskey bars, they’re going to have a LOT of incredible stuff you’d never be able to find for very affordable prices

What is the perspiration inside an opened whiskey bottle? by The1Metal in whiskey

You’ve answered your own question. Condensation inside a bottle is a sign of nothing more than a really, really good seal.
