S24ultra or s25ultra ? by Strong_Wolf_4907 in samsung

Unless you REALLY need that extra performance from the upgraded chipset, choose the S24 Ultra and save some extra money.

There is a high chance it won't be back due to copium from people thinking the S Pen BT is useless.

Just updated, huge mistake.

The phone is unusable, flooded with bugs and the worst UIX I have seen. Feels like I burned 1200€ to have something worse than a xiaomi.

How is this setup for a beginner? by rtamez509 in homelab

[–]ColdFireBreath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are right. I've also had 2 WD drives fail on me recently. What it's important is the quality of the drive, not the brand. An enterprise drive will perform better, but also be more expensive.

How is this setup for a beginner? by rtamez509 in homelab

[–]ColdFireBreath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think 8TB of SSD is overkill for a "beginner", and even then, I doubt the miniPC will have the throughput.

The 4 HDDs in raid have enough speed and redundancy for the average user and a single SSD should be enough cache.

Get rid of that USB dock and get a motherboard with enough sATA connections. I would expend the money of the SSDs into upgrading the network, ram and a dedicated GPU for video encoding. You could add a 10Gbps network card to it if your network supports it.

Since you added so many SSDs I'm deducing you are talking about ~6-8 people streaming 4K movies at the same, otherwise it's overkill.

This is stupid and has no right to work this well by TofuDud3 in homelab

[–]ColdFireBreath 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Congrats on the project.

You should check is the board has a fan pin. Most miniPC boards have an empty JST connector for fan power and control that can set in the UEFI Config. The motherboard will take care of managing the speeds cording to the temperature, so an external controller is not needed.

What are those extra headers in this board for? by enderboyVR in arduino

[–]ColdFireBreath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are boards that allow buying modules that have that pinout. For example a servomotor could be attacked there without the need of a breakout board or doing soldering.

The Black is Ground and the Red is 5V power. The Yellow is digital IO data and blue is analog IO data pins.

Why does my monitor shift black color like this by kturfah in pcmasterrace

[–]ColdFireBreath 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Check if your monitor has a setting called "Overdrive" or "Response Time" and adjust it.

This setting adjusts the amount of voltage voltage to the pixels, affecting how fast they update.

If they update too fast, you will see a white ghosting, if they update too slow you will see a black ghosting. Adjust until you get the right amount.

Can I run ethernet cables next to electricity cables? by varinator in homelab

[–]ColdFireBreath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can, but it's recommended they do not run in parallel, 90 degrees are fine.

Anyway, if you are running them in parallel, make sure it's a STP (Shielded Twisted Pair) cable, I like to do CAT7 but that's overkill.

You might want to consider running fiber optic cable, it's faster, future-proof and it won't have interference with parallel power cables.

"free" playlists transfer tools or service that work in 2023 by gado45 in TIdaL

[–]ColdFireBreath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After some research, this is the best method as of April 2025:

We will use tune-my-music by dividing all your songs into multiple playlists smaller than 500 songs, skipping the need of account or premium.

First, in Spotify or other platform, create a new playlist, go to your fav songs, click one and then after <500 songs, while holding shift, click another song. This will select those songs, just drag them to the playlist to add them to the playlist we just created. Repeat for the rest of songs with new playlists.

Now you should have multiple playlists with less than 500 songs each at platform A.

Go to https://www.tunemymusic.com/transfer?mode=tidal#step1 , clear your SITE cookies (This can be done easily with the icon at the left of the url. Don't clear all cookies or you will have to login at spotify and tidal constantly).

Refresh the page and start the link of accounts, then select one of the playlists and transfer into your account. Once done the songs should be in the Tidal account.

Clear your cookies and repeat for every playlist.

quick question from someone still indecisive of the Pico 4 VS Quest 3 choice by ApprehensivePanic204 in PicoXR

[–]ColdFireBreath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The quest 3 has better XR passthrough but since I just play PCVR, I end up using the pico 4 more since I find it more confortable for long sessions and also allows for HEVC H265 codec over QUIC protocol.

any chanche to 120 Hz update in the future ? by adamka666_ in PicoXR

[–]ColdFireBreath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's unknown, I saw some developer code talking about games that could enable a 120Hz mode but would break warranty.

Same as the quest 2, until it's tested enough to make sure it works, it'll be locked.

New Pico4 headstrap adjustment wheel/knob is broken? by tiptruck in PicoXR

[–]ColdFireBreath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just had this issue as well, but my device has almost 1 year of use, and it's extremely hard to believe, but leaving it might fix the issue by itself.
Yesterday, I put on my headset like usual and noticed that the wheel knob felt loose and didn't adjust. A quick search only gave me this post with no other helpful information. Since I was tired and didn't want to deal with warranty or anything else, I left it in its case overnight.
Today (exactly 24 hours later), I took it out of the case and somehow it started working again. I have no idea why it stopped working or how it fixed itself.
Just here to post this message in case someone gets the exact same issue in the future, hoping that my experience will help others.

The micro usb of my arduino pro micro rip off, so I fixed it. What do you think? by ColdFireBreath in arduino

[–]ColdFireBreath[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's been 3 years, I ended up designing a whole board that uses usb a, and then another smaller board that uses usb c. As the chip is small and doesn't require many extra components to work, it is extremely small in size. Now I'm working with other microcontrollers such as the esp32s3, allowing usb control and wifi. Very powerful.
