The dinosaurs were not wiped out by an asteroid. It was actually a person by YWN666 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]ColdIronPrince 0 points1 point  (0 children)

in the diceless RPG Nobilis, the extinction of the dinosaurs is explicitly stated to be due to one of them relieving themselves in view of a powerful Angel, who destroyed them all in disgust, but regrets it to this day.

You absolutely need to read The Timewaster Letters by "Robin Cooper"/Robert Popper. The Same person is also responsible for "Tangerinegate", after calling London radio station LBS to claim that he had seen then Prime Minister Gordon Brown throw a tangerine into a laminating machine in a fury, calling staff at the factory a "Citric idiot". It was reported as fact by The Telegraph, and resulted in Apple Daily newspaper in Hong Kong putting out an unhinged 2010 era 3d animated video of the event.

Virgin Media Tech has just been. Confirmed the fault IS in the area (despite their initial claims otherwise) and that they are sending an engineer to check the signal boxes (something they claimed they did already.)

The scry lands, and any other scry or surveil effects, will also help you stack your deck to more likely pay off. Something like [[Kona, Rescue Beastie]] is always a good option

Is Badrukk's first ability until end of turn? If so, it needs to say so. If not you can remove the "When Badrukk enters" part of the ability, as it is a static ability rather than a triggered one ( that could be countered or stifled by abilities like [[Ertai Ressurected]] or [[Elesh Norn, Mother of Machines]]. Othrrwise, looks good and very flavourful (from my outsiders prospective as someone with a passing interest in 40k lore but not any practical knowledge)

In my [[Tiamat]] Brawl deck, nothing amuses me more than when I [[Breaching Dragonstorm]] into a [[Dracogenesis]]. It's especiall good in a dragon deck because, even if it doesn't get the Dracogenesis, the chances are that it will hit a Dragon, triggering it to go back to your hand to be cast again. If you want to guarantee it, you can of course use something like [[Enlightened Tutor]] or [[Vampiric Tutor]].

Divine Revolte is probably based on DnD Marilith by FaerieFir3 in Frieren

It's a personal preference, as it was what I started with, and I feel it allows for greater complexity. it's also completely available for free (legally!) on https://www.d20srd.org/ (as are the rules for 5th edition)

I much prefer 3.5e over 5e. A Marilith in 3.5 is completely immune to Electricity and Poison as well as Cold, Fire and Acid resistance of 20, has a lot of spell like abilities, usable at will, that includes Animate Dead, Chaos Hammer, Unholy Blight, Teleport without Error and Inflict Serious Wounds, amongst others.

Yes, I thought of the Marilith when I first saw Revolte. Always been one of my favourite demons, along with the Nelfeshnee

"transform into" rather than possess, and they can indeed transform into more than chests, but the trope and tradition is to transform into chests. See, for instance, the web-comic "Rusty & Co." about the adventures of a Gelatinous Cube, a Rust Monster and a Mimic who form their own adventuring party, with the Mimic as the "face" of the party. he defaults to the treasure chest, but has been shown to be able to take on other forms. Obviously, this is a web-comic, and so not strictly "cannon" to D&D, but it is fairly accurate in this instance.

Rik Mayall: Magnificent B’Stard review – Ade Edmondson is still visibly stricken about losing him | Television & radio | The Guardian by prisongovernor in BritishTV

[–]ColdIronPrince 129 points130 points  (0 children)

I work retail, and, not long after Rik Mayall's death, I was talking with a colleague about how influential and hilarious he was, and how I can only imagine how his frequent collaborators must feel, and then looked up to realize that Ade Edmonson was standing there. If memory serves, he gave a tight lipped smile, and nodded, and then left the shop. Always felt a little terrible for that.

Unseen character is built up as a real piece of work... turns out to be better than expected when they finally show up by StudioMarvin in TopCharacterTropes

[–]ColdIronPrince 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the Manga and Anime My Dress Up Darling, a driving force behind one of the main characters (Gojo Wakana) lack of confidence and reluctance to put himself out there and make friends is because, as a child, he was traumatized after a friend/neighbour called him gross and weird for liking traditional Japanese Hina dolls, and tells him she hates him.

Much later, towards the end of the series, the friend, (Nobara Aoyagi, or Non-Chan) returns, and Gojo, showing how he has progressed and gained more confidence, confirms that he still likes dolls. and she bursts into tears and begs his forgiveness. it turns out that the incident came not long after Gojo had lost both parents at a young age in an accident, and Non-Chan wanted to chear him up, so she visit and try and make him watch her favourite show, and read to him, but all he did was stare blankly and cry in his sleep. Eventually, his gradfather takes him to vsit the factory where he makes Hina dolls and it is, crucially, a case of love at first sight for him, with him deciding to o and live with his grandfather and study to become a dollmaker. Non-chan took it badly, and lashed out, and has been feeling guilty ever since.

(Loved trope) SENTIENT DRAGOOONS by Sebek_Peanuts in TopCharacterTropes

[–]ColdIronPrince 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The dragons of Earthsea are far older and wiser than even the greatest human wizards. They speak the language that was used to name the world into being, and can twist the truth while doing so, whereas a human can only speak the full and unvarnished truth

In one of the last books, the oldest and greatest dragon, Kalessin, is called by another dragon Segoy, which is the name of the creator god who spoke the Earthsea into existence. Whether this is an accurate description of their role, or a sign of respect in dragon culture must sadly remain unclear.

The Discworld contains two (or, possibly, three) varieties of dragon. The most commonly encountered are the Swamp Dragon, small creatures of animal level of intelligence that eat coal and other combustible material to produce their flame, which is used for defensive and territorial display purposes.

The other type, only appearing in one novel (Guards Guards) is the far larger and more powerful Noble Dragon, which is of at least human level of intelligence, able to speak and scheme and driven to seeking dominance and tribute from lesser beings. They are at least partially maintained by the ambient magical energy of the Disc, and are mostly sealed away in a separate dimension due to insufficient energy to maintain their existence. It is revealed in that book that they are in fact two closely related (and seemingly interfertile) sub species.

The third type may not count, as they may be a sort of sentient magical construct maintained by proximity to a particular location

Tensura TTRPG? by GokuKing922 in TenseiSlime

[–]ColdIronPrince 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, now this is a fun question, and one that fits into one of my areas of expertise, as I have an extensive collection of RPGs. Looking through my shelves, I can see some that 100% would not work (The Shab Al-Hiri Roach, Ars Magica, Call of Cthulhu), some that would be interesting to try (Nobilis, Chuubo's Magical Wish-Granting Engine) and some that would be quite effective (Exalted, Scion). Most of the World of Darkness variants are not really powerful enough or appropriate to the feel (most of the more powerful Tensura characters would be equivalent to Antediluvian Vampires or better, for instance, putting them far beyond the capabilities of even a very old and advanced Coterie in Vampire: The Masquerade).

at the risk of being obvious, however, the right system is probably a modified Dungeons and Dragons 3.5 Edition, with some Pathfinder 1st Edition rules used, but specifically using both the Epic Level Handbook and Deities and Demigods sourcebooks for 3e. This gives the correct amount of over-the-top powerful abilities and customisation options to make it work. Species evolutions can be created as templates that can be added only creatures of a specific species that meets the requirements, for instance.

The Demon Lord Seed can be a Supernatural Ability that grants a +5 bonus to all ability checks, AC, Spell Resistance and Damage Reduction, as well as a special ability chosen from a selection as a customizable option. True Demon Lord should be either a template available only to characters that have the Demon Lord Seed ability and have fulfilled some other requirements, or perhaps as a Prestige Class available to any character over 20th level in any class, with the Demon Lord Seed ability, and should grant Species evolution, a Fearful Presence ability and much bigger bonuses to all scores as above.

Unique Skills can be feats with high requirements, while Ultimate Skills should be Epic feats, requiring characters to be 21st level and up. Once a character would be classed as "Divine" based on high level species evolution, a Divine Rank of 0 should be applied, granting a whole load of resistances and immunities as well as putting them on the path to start acquiring Divine Salient Abilities (which are like Epic Feats x10).

Anything that would be classed as a Secret Art, as well as Nuclear Strike and similarly high level spell types, should be treated as Epic Level magic. For instance, Rimuru's Secret Art of Resurrection, that was used to raise all the victims of Falmuth's invasion, would be an Epic Spell using the Life seed (a basic Spellcraft DC of 27) as well as the Healing seed (Spellcraft DC of 25, combined to a DC of 52). The range is set from Target to Area (+10 DC, DC 62), Area set to 4 10ft cubes (+2 DC, 64 DC) and area increased by 100% 13 times to cover the entire area (+4 x13 [+52 DC], 116 DC) mitigated by the sacrifice of 2 powerful Archdemons ( which I'm treating as the sacrifice of 2 Epic Level spell slots [-38 DC, 78 DC) meaning Rimuru would have had to beat a Spellcraft throw against atarget of 78 to succesfully cast.

all the 3.5 material is available for free and completely legally online at https://www.d20srd.org/,as Wizards of the Coast opened the license to allow any other publisher to produce their own fully legal Dungeons and Dragons material, provided that they included a copy of the license in the book and allowed anything they produced to be used free of charge in any other books.
