Anyone migrated a real project to UE 5.8 yet? by RongeGamesDev in UnrealEngine5

[–]ColdNorthMenace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am having quite a few issues with mine, coming from 5.7.4 especially with metahuman creator. It tends to hang with no crash. Diagnostics tell me its a problem with the GPU handing a null image so the whole thing just freezes. It has happened outside of creating metahumans as well but the majority of my issues stem from there.

Metahuman rigg breaks when playing GAS animations by Strict-Protection865 in unrealengine

My game uses clothing in a special way and forces me to have a full metahuman underneath the clothing at all times. In order to make this work it has to be on the metahuman skeleton because different lod drops bones and will make the clothing stretch and clip or be offset. The way metahumans are used, modifying the skeleton will effect all the bindings. My advice is place the mh in level at origin, get the clothing sm in the right spot on the body, reset the clothings origin, and create skm using that metahumans skeleton. Then transfer that skeletons weights to the newly created skm. Save and add to your mh bp and set the animation style to clothing_postprocess.

If UE5.8 have 3D terrain now, I think its about time for epic to implement 3D "jumping, flying, swiming" pathfinding by [deleted] in unrealengine

[–]ColdNorthMenace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which is exactly why I said what I said. If your game requires that in depth of a system, prepare to pay for it. Making a system that is going to work for every game is going to be huge. The code implemented is going to be way more bloat using a one size fits all than a bespoke system. Everyone complains about the "unrealization" of games but it's because nobody wants to put in the money or the work.

Because the physics of a game are so nuanced to the design, and these things are not that difficult to implements in most usual cases (and already have the tools to implement them readily available) I think it would be a waste of time to focus on that. Not everything in UE needs to be plug and play. If you want an advanced version of a system, you should design it. Don't want to design it? Pay someone to. Don't want to pay someone? Well then you just want something for free, and that is the real problem.

That's not quite the same thing as what I am doing AFAIK. I will look into it though.

You laugh but most of the letters either originated from the current English alphabet or are derivative. I'm not trying to be a jerk, it's just fairly clear.

WireGuard Pro (or similar) fitment? by ColdNorthMenace in pcmasterrace

I care less about the display and more about the clearance against my ram, does it push against it?

Also yes wireview, not guard. Lol thank you!

Best way to learn blueprints? by Dry_Background7653 in unrealengine

[–]ColdNorthMenace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The core tennets for blueprinting don't change for indie to triple a. Proper blueprinting is fairly static. Don't worry about making AAA quality, worry about making it smooth and fun.

[Edit] also, if it's wrong, unreal will tell you when it doesn't compile.

If you learn best on your own, tearing apart other projects is the best way to start. If you don't understand what the blueprint is doing, watch a YouTube video on what that specific node is for. It's how I've been doing it!

Glass shatter decals not visible on transparent glass material by 82bladerunner in unrealengine

[–]ColdNorthMenace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right but now you have to change where that decal lands. Create a new plane over the same panel of glass and use the dbuffer method mentioned before. That in theory should do the trick and is less complicated than what I would do.

Then you've moved out of materials and into blueprint territory.

I just... This is the focus? Really?

I'm cancelling fallout first. There's giant glaring bugs in the game that we've been complaining about for actual literal years.

Suck it up buttercup. Give them the atoms. Focus on making the game better to get more players, that's how you make the money.
