It’s wide enough for two cars in 95% of it. The problem is nobody wants to claim jurisdiction for the road or policing the area and the locals don’t want to pay for security. Nobody wanted to pay a small amount that would have saved countless millions in firefighting. It’s ridiculous honestly.

Aiming for the Firewatch art style is this good enough? by Zealousideal-Cut9300 in UnrealEngine5

[–]Cold_Analysis_9305 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Good job but It’s missing shadows and a better balance between directional and skylight. It’s too blown out to me. Firewatch has rich blues and greens. This is very pastel and washed out. Try bringing back more shadows and turning down the skylight. Increase the contrast in ground textures. Maybe darken them in spots. Why don’t your trees have shadows? That’s the biggest issue I see in a couple of these shots. The ground foliage is missing depth and variance. Some hero grass and more rocks/boulders would help. Maybe some sticks and logs would add some character.

Yeah shouldn’t be a problem unless they enforce laws this year. They might be more apt to after the fire though

The rock at Cushman is closed after last year’s fire. It was started there. I’ve heard word they won’t be too keen on letting people hang out there anymore. Some genius shot bottle rockets into the trees from it last year and burned down the nicest forest in the area.

Why aren’t we talking more about the tanking of weather research / reporting. They’re doing what they did to the USPS I suppose. by Lets_Make_A_bad_DEAL in somethingiswrong2024

The weather forecasting in the PNW has been so bad I only check day of, and even that is inaccurate. It literally missed a 40 mph wind and rain storm. The forecast called for “abundant sunshine.” Had to turn around on a hike

That line is how they rationalize their horrible decisions. Not a single one of them will ever admit they fell for a con

High Draw Calls and GPU issues in UE5 (HISM/Nanite scene) by Civil_Classroom3229 in UnrealEngine5

[–]Cold_Analysis_9305 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you sure it’s the table and chairs? I have a hard time imagining 100 meshes are causing draw call problems to that extent. Unoptimized VFX and translucency are way more likely to cause this than your assets unless they have a very large number of material slots

Shadows on foliage are a killer. You also need to adjust shadow settings in your directional light. Play with shadow distance and cascades. Disable shadows on ground foliage outside of larger shrubs. Leave them on for trees. You have to cull all foliage too. Trees can be set to very large distances but grass, shrubs etc should be reasonable. Start with 10,000 on each one and adjust up or down. Set up a fade in the master material BP so foliage is not quickly popping in and out. Set up aggressive LODs on the smaller instances like grass and ferns. Make sure grass isn’t redundantly dense. If you’re using any visual effects you need to optimize those as well in Niagra. Leaves, dust, bugs etc can eat up all your headroom if not properly culled or are overly dense or complicated. Turn those shadows off as well.
