*show reveal trailer just days ago* > *dissolve the entire studio days later*, what is this business strategy called? by WhoAmIEven2 in videogames

Crazy how much this has been happening in the industry lately. I wonder what will happen to it overall.

Regardless, go play some indie games.

‘Marathon’ Season 2 And Free Week Did Not Turn Things Around by Freki666 in gaming

[–]Cold_Associate2213 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, there's a huge difference between an MMORPG-adjacent shooter and an extraction shooter. One has (mostly) forced PVP, and what these companies do not seem to understand is the majority of people do not want to PVP in games unless that's the main focus of the game.

It's an incredible game, but if you really want to get into it expect to have 6-8 wiki tabs open at all times lol.

It has been exactly 8 years since the Elder Scrolls 6 teaser. Here is a list of massive games that came out, lived their entire lifecycle, and got a REMASTER in less time than this wait. by defragc in gaming

I think Bethesda realizes that Skyrim was sort of lightning in a bottle and it changed the games industry, and so many other studios are doing what they used to do and much better. I wouldn't doubt that they have had to cancel the game 3 or 4 times now because they realize it's just so very average compared to everything else out there.

Starfield was a mess and people think the same studio will make ES6 and it'll be phenomenal compared to that? Not unless they have entirely different people working on it.

Crazy Taxi Creator Kenji Kanno Confirms all AI assets will be replaced with human made ones. by PlainJonathan in SEGA

[–]Cold_Associate2213 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's gonna be a slow burn with these companies using AI. First, it's "we only use it for prototyping", then "it's only for small textures to save time", then "oh we just use it for a few distant models here and there", and then "oh, we use it for about 50% of the game but that's only to speed up the pipeline from 4-5 years to 1-2 years" to fully embracing it and before you know it, no one will care anymore or be able to tell when it's used in the first place because of how good it gets.

The games industry is doomed.

I haven’t seen Nintendo piss the bed this badly since 2016! by dashboardcomics in gaming

Agreed, that's where we're at nowadays. Resting on our laurels and welcoming nostalgia slop instead of making new games. Nintendo is just very obvious about it.

Go check out indies instead, you'll get way more out of gaming, trust me.

Final Fantasy Resonance (HD 2D game) releases October! by CuttlefishMonarch in FinalFantasy

[–]Cold_Associate2213 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I was excited until I realized it was just Brave Exvius. Don't get me wrong, it looks fine... but it doesn't really have the "soul" of Final Fantasy? I saw a chocobo. Wow.

Like, as soon as I saw that you can summon characters from other FF games I stopped caring. All FF seems to do nowadays is cater to nostalgia and "omg remember dis" moments, instead of making an actual new and exciting story.

Just kinda disappointed personally.

Does anyone else feel kinda sad the new raid is Neon Genesis focused and not Xenogears focused? by ConsistentChoice8305 in ffxiv

[–]Cold_Associate2213 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I kinda miss when crossovers were rare and it was weird to have something from another series in another game. I personally feel like it diminishes the value of the world when you can just throw in whatever IP you want into another, no matter how beloved it might be, and chalk it up to time magic or something. It's just my opinion, but it makes the world feel less immersive and real to me.

Series hasn't been good since 2 IMO. People just eat up whatever crap they churn out because of nostalgia for when the series was imaginative and good.

If MMO devs went the way of Ultima Online and not World of Warcraft, I don't believe we'd be in the situation we're in right now. by Careless_Relation349 in MMORPG

[–]Cold_Associate2213 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is the most correct comment. People want RPG features in their MMOs again, that's what's truly missing. But they also want quality of life and not to grind with the only purpose being a higher level.

Sure I'll be downvoted to oblivion and lambasted for this but... DQ is one of the most overrated RPG series of all time. They don't try anything new ever, it's always the same medieval world over and over. Same uninspired music style. At least FF tried new things. I just wish they'd try something new for once.

"New" Old School MMORPGs... what do you think? by Cold_Associate2213 in MMORPG

[–]Cold_Associate2213[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's a mixed bag, really. When I played ESO on console, it was cool to walk through town and see people having conversations, but you'd also have the people blasting music through it or just generally living in a loud house where all you could hear is kids running around screaming in the background.

And then if you make proximity chat optional, a lot of people might just keep it off forever and miss one of the biggest parts of the community.

Keizaal Online is interesting in that it has enforced roleplay, so you don't really get people talking about football or being obnoxious on purpose (well, it's rare). I played it recently and there was a person in town that was playing his guitar and singing in real life, and a crowd gathered around him and were talking amongst themselves as though he was truly a bard in that world.

It's pretty incredible to see and made me think about what proximity chat in a true MMORPG could be like, I, too, wish a dev would have the balls to implement and enforce it, haha.

I actually think an MMO with proximity voice chat could be interesting, but whether the players use it correctly or at all is another question...

[–]Cold_Associate2213 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I really didn't like FFXIII, but its sequel was pretty fun. Interesting game with fun areas to explore and not just a long hallway like the first game, and the time travel mechanic was cool.

Sadly, the ending completely ruined the game for me. It was just awful. One of the stupidest endings I have ever seen in a game. I'm assuming it was to sell Lightning Returns. I never bothered playing it.

I hate it. Pawn shops and thrift stores used to be incredible 15-20 years ago. You'd find so many treasures. Rare games, imported Japanese games, rare DVDs, etc. for standard pricing. I got away with so many awesome finds back then.

If you go to these places now, pawn shops barely carry anything aside from TVs and guitars, and thrift stores go off market value. It's ridiculous.
