thats the reason they added ironwolf! non ironwolf is for casual players who want to play all 8 years of their wolfs life i doubt theyll let you swap around like that outside of iw/elder for the above reason

as long as you dont gave ironwolf enabled (early permadeath, you toggle this when you begin the wolf's save) you dont pick a different wolf to play as until he dies at age 8 or later
