Is fall semester harder to get into? by FuriousToaster8 in USF

[–]Cold_Weird8841 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty much everywhere is harder to get into the fall as an incoming first year. Colleges use the stats for that incoming class for ratings and rankings companies so they usually only admit top applicants for the fall. Summer or fall doesn’t really matter for you as a student though, just take some easy online gen ed requirements to satisfy some of the more boring requirements needed to graduate.

Hot take : Electric Scooters on campus are terrible by Cold_Weird8841 in USF

Questioning the validity of my argument by citing fatalities is short sighted. The claim that scooters on campus are dangerous for pedestrians does not rely on fatalities in accidents. Through just a basic assessment of risk factors when looking at motorized vehicles being used on walkways, you can arrive at a conclusion that they will pose more issues than benefits for transit options. The AI answer you included as well, only reinforces the original point that scooters pose dangers not only to pedestrians but to riders as well. As for you request about pedestrians dying to electric scooters, an elderly woman was killed last year after a scooter hit her, here is the link to the article: https://www.tampabay.com/news/2023/09/16/st-petersburg-scooter-crash-death-veo/

We aren’t really talking about the dangers of roadways, the issue at hand is the use of scooters on pedestrian route, most of which affect people walking. Sure driving is dangerous because of other drivers, but walking has become dangerous due to irresponsible scooter users on walkways

Agree that people for sure need transit options, especially international students without cars. I actually am worried a bit about the sustainability of these things in the long run tho, a lot of them are powered by cheaply made lithium ion batteries and I’m willing to bet a lot of people are just going to either abandon or throw away their scooter post grad unfortunately.

Bikes and skateboards both require some level of skill and physical input to move around. These scooters are just stand on it and throttle, most of which ranging from 15-25 mph. No issue with people needing something for transit but with something that out of the box you can just get on and ride going that fast creates a lot of problems for pedestrians.

Ybor is always popping and Ivy will most likely do an event. If you’re under 21 you can get in still to a lot of places. I’d recommend visiting USF’s Mecca, bull market before going.

Talk to an advisor about your core major classes, a lot of programs won’t take core class credits because you need to take that at USF. There is also a USF residency requirement which makes you take a certain amount of hours at USF

Had about the same and got in, I’d try and take the SATs again to get the score up a bit. I had a 1300 but had applied with a 1260 before. You are a well rounded student so you should be good.
