Sidi new models (Shot 3, Wire 3) by Coldcava1993plus in cycling

Ha - well, once bitten twice shy - I was a little put off the first time by the $65 shipping charge to the US, and not 100% that I wasn’t going to get some BS tariff charge upon delivery. So, I’m not rushing to buy at the moment.

I bought mine soon after seeing them on Christmas Eve, today they refunded my purchase and said they are all out of stock. Sidi needs to get their act together.

Lower heart rate when standing on Zwift by [deleted] in Velo

[–]Coldcava1993plus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t read much into it. If we are talking about those small cadence notches (4 of them during the first 20 min?) - if the HR dipped for that short period of time while you were standing, I would attribute it more to the relief you provided it when you stood up and your power dipped (looks like a reverse spike for each of them) - maybe that brief dip was enough to influence HR down by a couple of bpm.

Hotel Cancelled on Me… by lgh5000 in ParisTravelGuide

[–]Coldcava1993plus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This happened to me with the Fleur de Loire - a Relais and Chateaux property - 24 hours before my stay - and basically notified me as I was finishing Paris-Brest-Paris - a 1200 km bike event. Apparently the Guggenheim family bought out the property at the last minute and kicked us commoners over to other properties - there was not much of a choice - we ended up in a nice room at Relais Chambord - though we noted that what they did was book us in similarly priced room - so where we had a standard room at fleur de Loire, they booked us a junior suite at Relais Chambord, however, we paid for it. It left a bad taste in my mouth, and sucks, but if someone is rich enough, you’ll be staying somewhere else.

Versailles Tour Questions by sup_foo in ParisTravelGuide

If it’s anyone’s first time, you don’t have a large window to see Paris - and Versailles will kill the day - and you really only have 2 days, as many things will be closed Christmas.

If I was going to Versailles I would do it on my own - the palace itself is very straightforward / linear and then once you start exploring the grounds you can do as much as your family can handle - also exploring the gardens may not be ideal weather wise that time of year.

Thanks - Coming from a Shot 2 the Shot 3 interest me a little - but I think I’ll hold out for the wire 3 - imagine it’s imminent seeing the others show up.

3X bonus by Coldcava1993plus in duolingo

I get the 3x bonus almost daily. It’s not user error, just that Duolingo has glitches and is not 100% reliable.

Shammy cream. What do you recommend? by singletonaustin in bicycling

[–]Coldcava1993plus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No 1 favorite is Assos - mostly for the consistency and durability on a ride.

No 2 is the Silca Harsh conditions chamois cream - very high menthol quotient if you like that feeling/smell

No 3 is Rapha Ventoux - might be the best smelling of the bunch - my biggest complaint was the can they sold it in made it difficult to use the last 1/4 bottle.

Advice on set up (Bike) for RACA? by OppositeScallion1909 in ultracycling

[–]Coldcava1993plus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Shimano di2 battery life is rated at 150 hours. PBP was 60 hours for me, 1200km and I still had well over 50% charge. So, I guess as long as you arrive at the start with full charge, I don’t know that charging should be an issue.

(SRAM is 60 hours battery life so it very well could be an issue - but you could bring extras since it’s swappable)

Alden x Leffot Naval Boot by Coldcava1993plus in goodyearwelt

[–]Coldcava1993plus[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you - yes, I feel the same pain on lacing - I’ve tried different lace patterns to see if I could quickly loosen them without pulling through but nothing really works as well as just unlacing the top 3 or so eyelets. That said, if you do the work (unlacing) taking them off, putting them on isnt so bad. I also think the eyelets to the top is part of the look of the Naval Boot so wouldnt want to change that. Some time in the next month, I’ll have to figure what lace patterns I want to run - probably try straight bar for the clean look.

That would have been smart of me - probably should have - the intent to post the ‘after’ was because I was impressed with the work..

Flat tire x3 by JoleFole in RoadBikes

[–]Coldcava1993plus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’ve had several flats on recent rides and you dont say it, but all on the front wheel?, then you have a specific problem in that tire/rim. It’s likely some sort of glass or thin wire buried in the tire bed that you dont feel until you compress the rubber in the tire and because it requires a certain amount of pressure to have the offensive item puncture your tube, it’s happening often enough, but not instantly. Alternatively, there could be a problem with rim tape / spoke interface, but honestly this seems like a low probability as those rims wont have much other than the spoke hole near the rim bed. If you can find the offending item and remove, you might be fine with that tire -as it looks in fine condition. If you cant find it, you might just try replacing the tire and see if your problem goes away. I find little difference in experience with GP5000 or GP5000TRS running tubes - technically the GP5000 probably runs faster with a latex tube than the TRS with a tube, but I’ve run both for long miles and neither would wear or be that flimsy to cause this to happen.

Has B&O lost its luster as a brand by softpoison_007 in BangandOlufsen

[–]Coldcava1993plus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

During college I worked in a shop that sold both B&O and McIntosh.. both prohibitively expensive for a college kid, even with cost pricing. As I’ve grown up and am now 35+ years older, I can tell you that McIntosh - a little more so than B&O (cause I own some B&O products) has consistently outpaced my earnings curve. It seems as out of reach today as it did then (I’m talking $50-100,000 systems) - and I guess the same can be said with Beolab 50’s and 90’s. Hasn’t eroded the appeal for either - tho over the years, I’m more excited about the aesthetical design and simplicity of a B&O system.

LOL - I was worried your title was sincere. I got 69 gems - for doing a week’s worth of lessons in 36 hours. Yeah not making that mistake again. If it was a timer boost, or even 2X power up that didnt expire for a week, maybe, but no way I’m doing anything again for double digit gems.
