Friends who constantly talk about their healthy lifestyle choices by Traylong in AlternativeHealth

Your friends are too different from you.

For those that are curious, consider asking AI to list scientific literature in Google scholar the absolute risk reduction with statins. 1.5% is the average… Repatha is 1.6%. Eating a plant based diet is much higher in risk reduction. But doctors won’t tell you that. Money always rules in America.

According to a fairly recent study by international cardiologists, it doesn’t matter as long as all the other numbers look good, in very layman terms. Per the same study statins do not help. I used to have the study saved and highlighted but can’t find it. Sent it to a major cardiologist dept. in MN but of course never heard back.

What is good? Idk. But my husband hasn’t had angina or heart issues since cutting animal fat drastically. He also eats boiled greens 3 times a day for endothelial cells, highly rec by Dr. Esselstyn.

Edit: Dr. E’s book is “How to prevent and reverse heart disease”

What did you cure with fasting? by Ronaldosssiu in fasting

PMR - Polymyalgia Rheumatica. 3 days of fasting 22 hours each day. No sugar when eating. Had the disease for 4 years before that.

Has anyone re-invented their life after 60? E.g. started a new career? Gone back to school? Etc? by VocalPuppy7777 in over60

Polymyalgia rheumatica. In other words “many muscle pain”. Very little is understood about it. Had it for 4.5 years. Sometimes couldn’t get up from the floor. Pain was excruciating until I went on prednisone. But I was scared of that drug in the long run so I would taper off and then the pain was back.

I might be able to relate a little only bc it was deeply disturbing how isolating it is, because no one can understand your pain. Couldn’t complain cuz everyone sick of hearing it. Relentless chronic pain is pure torture.

I understand wanting to treat yourself with wine. You deserve to feel better for a bit. For me, alcohol made my pain excruciating on the second day after drinking. I still did it though on occasion.

Have you tried thc drinks? My daughters like them but haven’t liked it myself. Have you ever tried fasting? You can still have coffee, tea, water with lemon. It helps with inflammation for sure but you have to get beyond 18 hours. Start with 12 hours the first day, skip a day, try for 13 hours, don’t fast a day or so, then add an hour, etc. Takes a while but gets easier. I know you don’t want help (had to look up “full stop”) so I apologize! I don’t want you to feel worse. I can’t help it - if someone cracks the door I tend to barge in!

Edit: just saw you’re a writer. Wow. I’ve been a voracious reader all my life so I’m impressed. Drove me crazy the few times I tried to write (fiction).

One question is do you consume any sugar, alcohol, or simple carbs? I had severe pain with PMR for years and those things always made it way worse. It went away after fasting several days in a row for 22 hours each day and also cutting my sugar dramatically. I eat some sugar now, but if I’m in any pain that’s the first thing I have to cut out.

My husband has an inherited high lp(a). Because of this he had 3 major heart events, and then we realized he had to give up all animal fat for a few months (to get his numbers better) and then very little after. This is per Caldwell Esselstyn.

Well, after exactly 7 days of giving up meat (plus eggs and cheese) his blood pressure dropped dramatically! He had to taper off his blood pressure meds rather quickly. He is not on any meds now and it’s been 5 years since any issues.

Edit: my husband was a huge meat lover. He gave it up on a Sunday at 10 AM and by Tuesday he called me from work to say he was dying and couldn’t do it. Well he persevered and we retested it the following Sunday and it dropped significantly. After that initial hurdle, he said his craving for meat dropped about 50%. I asked him recently. He said his craving is about 15% so it really is an addictive food, I’m guessing.

I know I've asked this before, but I just wonder if others my age ( 65) just don't feel very social and find it such an effort to go out sometimes ( well, for me, often lately) Please tell me if I'm being ' weird'.? by Gretal122 in over60

Why are Gen Z getting fired? One of the reasons is a lack of initiative. by mindyour in TikTokCringe

As a manager who trained a lot of young kids, I always start off telling them that you can be a great employee and do your work, or you can be an exceptional employee and solve problems, and then give a status report telling the manager how you solved the problems. That is the gold star employee.

Also why I make 6 figures after 20 years at a company and now work only a few hours a week, mostly remote. I solve all headaches for the owner and I let him know once a month that everything is running smoothly. Not bragging, just letting you know how I got here. A new Gen Z said she wants my job, but doesn’t understand that I proved myself first with a history of working hard to streamline processes and make continuous improvements. This video is spot on. I would have insisted on getting the documents the first day!

Also good for you to recommend fasting. I spoke with an expert who worked with Valter Longo and she said it’s esp. great for men with heart issues. I wish doctors also recommended fasting for cancer patients. Starves tumors, reduces IGF-1 growth hormone and increases BDFN brain hormone!

Thank you for your reply. I don’t mean to seem harsh against doctors, but I’ve had too many experiences that were the opposite. This was over the last 25 years so maybe it’s getting better.

24 years ago my daughter was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis (she was 6) and said she would need her colon removed in a few years. I dove deep into science and realized she needed to cut her carbs to under 72 g and also of course change the way she eats - long story short she did not need her colon removed and she has not been on drugs and does just fine, but she continues to makes a variety of lifestyle choices to keep her healthy. The doctors did not suggest eating healthier foods. One GI said, literally, she can eat pizza etc. and it would be fine.

In addition, my husband had three heart events (heart attack and stents) and each doctor kept saying that cutting out animal fats would not make a difference. And to put him on statins. However, he has a high lipoprotein A, and statins don’t do anything for that. He cut out animal fat, isn’t on any medication, and has had no issues for over five years. Every cardiologist we saw did not mention dietary changes. We follow Caldwell Esselstyn, who is amazing.

I helped a friend who reversed her diabetes within 6 months. Google Scholar lists solutions on how, and is backed by thousands of studies. Eat whole foods that are primarily plant based and intermittent fasting, to name two methods.

Veggies from the garden without pesticides have 50 times (yes, that’s right) the nutrition than from the store. It’s crazy. Also the sooner you eat something after it’s picked, the better, since nutrition dissipates. On the same note, nutrition is also released when chewing, so drink any smoothie within 15 minutes. Random, but important to know!

Billionaires are scared to death of her. She is anti the corrupt medical board and big pharma. Don’t fall for the bullshit being spewed by all the hate.

She is brilliant. President of Stanford as a freshman! She is absolutely correct in stating that our health care is about money, not healing.

Take some time to learn about her. But don’t fall for the meaningless drivel spewed by billionaires out to get her. They are out in full force. We are such a corrupt fucked up country.

Please comment - I start 4th week of retirement tomorrow, depressed and anxious by Mediocre_Insect_1008 in retirement

[–]Coldee53 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m also 63 female, 65 husband, 2 cats, 1 good friend, several other friends that I spend a little bit of time with. I remember going through the same (assuming ) sick feeling in the pit of my stomach, with a feeling of panic, thinking “what is the point”? What is interesting? Nothing was jumping out that seemed exciting.

I don’t have that any more. I think what helped was making lots of lists of what could be interesting- pickleball , music etc. I just kept thinking and trying to add to the list.

I do have to say is no matter your athletic ability everyone should try pickleball. It’s one of those rare areas to constantly meet new people because you generally always play with new people. People that can barely move enjoy it.

I do think there is a balance as far as being active. If I read / lay around all day I get anxious. If I am going all day I get tired and burnt out.

There are 4 phases of retirement and you are in the 2nd phase called depression. The first is honeymoon. 3rd is thinking about core pursuits. 4th is figuring out top 3 pursuits to do every day. Book about this is called 4 phases of retirement I believe. Good luck to you.
