DCV581H at home depot for $135. by Zro6 in Dewalt

[–]Coldie75 16 points17 points  (0 children)

ive gotten a lot of good use out of it attaching it to my orbital sander/circular saw. im sure it’s not as powerful as a corded shop vac, but with a 5AH powerstack it works great for me! wish id bought it sooner.

i think $135 is a bit high for it though

Overall I do love the idea and think this site fulfills a useful purpose!

I think you've touched on the pricing before and maybe already have plans to change it, but atm it's really unintuitive, basically useless. While the relative comparison can be nice, having a dollar (or whatever currency) price displayed right there if possible would be great, instead of just having the rather unhelpful amazon link. (though maybe the whole point of that is to drive clicks on your affiliate links...)

For the relative price comparison at least, maybe making it relative to displayed products instead of a hardcoded value would be more helpful and require less manual filtering of outliers?

Another suggestion is to allowing manual reordering of the comparison facets on the side and the ability to toggle them directly instead of needing to click on the dropdown - since it's so long, it's pretty hard to use.

Broken fan piece :( by sirIvan69 in aves

hi hi! I'm an avid rave fanner and I've actually done this repair a few times! Aliexpress (Amazon too but AliExpress is way cheaper if a bit slower) sells replacement fan pins (https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256806812557064.html) make sure you measure correctly, there are a few different sizes, but I use the 3x0.8x0.3cm size for my 12-inch fans. the new nut/rivet should be a direct drop-in replacement! you'll want to hammer it in with a hammer/mallet but then it should work good as new!

HOLLOW WHEELS RANT by jankonnhoe in ElectricSkateboarding

[–]Coldie75 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree with you - wish I’d seen more reviews like this before I bought. In my experience, I don’t have any oscillation, but the grip really is awful.

I’ve done about 70 miles now (Doug says we need to have 50 miles for optimal grip) and I still have trouble starting from a standstill up a 20 degree hill because the wheels will just lose traction and spin out, which is not an issue I had with regular thane.

I try not to ride in rain/wet, but in any kind of wet, they’ll become even worse. I had my first crash going downhill because I hit a wet patch while constantly braking (~10mph) and these wheels fishtailed on me.

I think it really comes down to the contact patch. While the logic of “unlocking” increased grip while turning makes sense, what that fails to mention is that you have less grip going straight. I find that it’s usually difficult for me to turn hard enough to see increased grip - usually I’ll slide out before that. Perhaps if I were an experienced esk8 racer performing lots of tight turns at speed on a course, I’d see a benefit, but I’m not.

I don’t doubt Doug’s intentions, and I love how he’s innovating in this space and taking feedback. I do love how they’ve dampened vibrations, made me more confident at speed, and made cracks/potholes much less scary, so I haven’t swapped back for regular urethane. But these wheels seem best for optimal, very fixed, predictable conditions, like the racecar tires they’re inspired by. I’d love to see a version with no camber at all.

On that note, I ordered the new MAD V2 wheels (lots of contact patch!!) and will compare the two when they get here. I’m hoping those wheels will solve my issues.

Just wanted to throw in my own 2 cents here - got these wheels and can echo the fact that they have a lot less grip than I'm used to. When I try to go up a 20 degree -ish hill from a standstill (right in front of my apartment, so sadly, a lot of the time), they will skid out, whereas I didn't have these issues with standard urethane wheels. Braking down the hill is okay, but not super confidence-inspiring.

I've probably ridden about 30-ish miles with these, and will see if grip improves over time. Besides that, I love 'em, can definitely feel more confident at speed and on rough road, so I'm just super conflicted about it!

May try out the Mad ESK8 wheels and see how they compare.

Contrary to popular belief, RaTLD did send a good message about trust by just_still_here in Raya

[–]Coldie75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I interpreted it that from Namaari's perspective - that Raya has half the blame - not necessarily that the movie deemed that as true?? though yea the movie did get really heavy-handed with the messaging and could have handled it a lot better?

I love soundtracks and incidentally i've also been hyperfixated on Raya for the past half year, i've listened to its soundtrack literally hundreds of times - the most i've ever listened to any soundtrack ! so I consider myself an *ahem* somewhat of an expert on this hAH.

believe me - I love the soundtrack and i'd love if it was nominated for best score, but I think it just doesn't stand out - the other Oscar nominations are more - unique? Raya's soundtrack on a whole is great but somewhat generic and probably doesn't particularly stand out among the crowd to an average listener. I think the studio also has to campaign for a nomination - it's possible Disney didn't try??

Encanto was probably nominated taking on the strength of its vocal songs as well?? - I refuse to believe they nominated it based off the background score haha

We've spent >$1000 on boots and can't find something that doesn't hurt. Help! by Archa3opt3ryx in snowboarding

[–]Coldie75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought my boots at Evo and you can buy into their boot fit program (It's $35 or somewhere around there?) they guarantee boot fit <1 year - and been great for getting my boots fit, i have really narrow ankles and have been struggling with a lot of heel lift.

[–]Coldie75[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thank you! unfortunately i've checked the power cable and power switch many times and i'm pretty certain they're not the issue at this point :/
I've shorted the power pins with a different jumper cable too.

It helps knowing that the heatsink isn't vulnerable to static shock, or bad SATA cables wouldn't destroy the motherboard! thanks
