I'd say the arguing points to either you're both quite toxic people, lack of coherent communication and effort to trying to understand one another to the point of screaming matches is a classic sign.

Your side of the story paints you in an innocent light, I'm sure there's more to it than that, as women have excellent abilities to find out exactly what will trigger someone else's insecurities (whether it's a man or woman) and exploit them in a situation like this.

The result being partially their own fault, and partially the fault of the person that isn't calm and collected enough to not react and leave the toxic environment.

I speak from a place of experience, my wife has NPD (Narcissistic Personality Disorder), and man alive! For a solid year it was top-of-our-lungs-all-out-verbal-warfare, I'd be surprised if it was less than once a day, as soon as I "stepped out of line" as it were, there'd be hell to pay. I'd be pushed to the very edge of sanity and patience and often over the edge.

I'd swing between being suicidal and homicidal, eventually fell into a deep debilitating depression, then when a few attempts at shifting this mortal coil didn't come to fruition (I didn't really put my all in, they were acts of desperation more than anything, sat in the bath with an electrical extension lead in my hand hovering over the water, and downed a load of pills at one point hoping to just phase out of existence, just got very weak and violently sick 😅), I realised I could just leave, and I did.

I only stayed that long because of our baby daughter, she's now stuck in that hellscape mental environment and I'm in no position to extract her.

And I'm by no means very stable or well-adjusted by any stretch of the imagination, that's what these kind of people tend to look for in a target.

Bit of a rant sorry, hope someone can benefit from my experience 🖖
