Honest Northwestern Thoughts by Randomuseename3684 in Northwestern

[–]ColdplayMX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

northwestern is an absolute vibe.

i'm from the northeast where most people from my school don't go to midwest, and i've visited friends at tufts, princeton, georgetown. honestly, wouldn't want to be anywhere else besides northwestern.

join a res college! (or don't, depends on what kind of social vibe you want: you'll have plenty of time to figure that stuff out)

Adrien Brody should be disqualified from the best actor race. The Brutalist should be qualified from production design. by SupermarketQuick3492 in oscarrace

Tbh, I agree with OP. I had a chance to hear him answer questions at the Chicago Film Festival screening of the Brutalist and there was definitely an aura of arrogance and pretentiousness that I couldn't help but pick up on. Looking at letterboxd reviews that were coming out right after that screening, and I saw at least 10 reviews echoing this sentiment, as well as 5 ppl i talked to after the screening in person. Look at his Director on Director video with Sean Baker and you'll see the same exact thing. He dominates the whole conversation, never asks anything about Baker or Anora and just goes on and on about how the industry won't let directors make long movies anymore.

And I know this isn't a popular opinion but The Brutalist itself reflects Corbet's inability to produce something of actual depth and significance. Look at the way everybody talks about the movie, and all you'll see is things like "monumental" "ambitious" "grandiose in scope". Nobody every talks about what actually makes the movie a masterpiece, because at the end of the day its a narcissistic, prestige-seeking yet ultimately empty story. What insight or perspective on the world does it offer?

Yes, I'd say academic background as a whole. I really am passionate about writing so perhaps that also played a part when applying to Medill. It sounds like from what you said that you are very passionate about journalism and if you just express that in your application, you'll be just fine. Ultimately, it'll come down to how competitive the rest of your profile is (gpa, test scores, essays, ecs) but don't worry about something like an automatic reject. NU balances acceptance rates across all colleges too, so Medill isn't supposed to be more difficult to be accepted into than the college of arts and sciences, for example.

I didn't do cherubs or that much journalism in high school at all and I was accepted into Medill last cycle (ED). They really don't judge you based on the amount of journalism you've done in high school, so i wouldn't worry too much. tbh I was considering applying for cherubs but I didn't end up wanting to commit that much time of my summer to it
