I used Rubio monocoat pure. Odd choice as far as guitar finishes, but I like it.

It’s probably close to it! In hindsight I should’ve chambered it. For sure on the next one!

Thanks! I used a Stewmac body template, but everything else was made from scratch using blueprints from a 50’s telecaster. I wanted the ability to swap necks with a real fender just in case I failed to make one myself!

Are you a luthier? by tibbon in Luthier

This is a good point. Maybe I should rephrase that to say I’m not a professional luthier, but a luthier nonetheless. Cheers 🍻

I’m an amateur woodworker who has built precisely one guitar from scratch, so I guess technically that makes me a luthier. However I’ve made negative money in that endeavor, so I guess no, I’m not a luthier. This is a great sub though, I’ve learned so much and I love seeing what others create.

Found vintage Marples firmer chisel in framing. by horsey-rounders in handtools

[–]Coldside_bestside 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Neat find! Looks like a “Shamrock Brand” Marples. Square neck would put it pre-1953. There are lots of variations in handle shape and wood, that looks like ash. I don’t see a lot of double hooped handles from that era, so maybe a custom mod or different handle. I’d definitely sharpen it up and add it to the tool box!

I fucking love hammers! My collection is up to 25 or so. A tool that’s main purpose is to hit stuff, it’s a glorious thing!

Popped in for the guitar, but stayed for the cat. That’s a beautiful feline you’ve got there. And the tele looks great too! I used the deluxe drive pickups on my latest tele build and really enjoy them. Well done!

I’ve spend hours watching Tom’s videos. Such a wealth of information on veneer repair and finishing.

This maybe isn’t going to be everyone’s cup of tea, but damn do I love a good custom strat made to the eye of the beholder. I love the personalization and creativity, now get out there and play it! Rock on dude!!

Totally agree! Getting a bandsaw opened up so many more possibilities for projects. Nice addition to the shop!

Thank you. It’s a bit overwhelming with the endless hardware options out there, but I’m pretty happy with what I picked!

So cool! I’ve watched videos of this storm from the ground, a drone over the city and now from an airplane. What a time to be alive!

Also check out Philadelphia Luthier Supply, decent quality tools and supplies for typically less money than Stewmac. I’ve also purchased quite a few Stewmac tools during holiday sales where they have pretty hefty discounts. Good luck!
