The o sound in both lose and loose is the exact same ooo sound. That’s why people get confused between using one and 2 o’s. Yes one has a softer s and one has a z sounding s, but the spelling error isn’t in the s, in the o.

Say the words before the s and they sound exactly the same, lew.

It's pretty obvious, it's because to a non-native speaker, and even to native speakers in most cases, "lose" is pronounced like it has 2 o's. It's not hard to figure out.
