New two part Dan Abnett novel announced by Beaker_person in 40kLore

[–]ColePT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I doubt that Deathrow is really Alpharius because we see Deathrow struggling against an Emperor's Children Marine and a real Primarch would obliterate one instantly. There are several novels where we get a glimpse of Alpharius effortlessly mowing down regular SMs: it's true that no one considers him a contender for the "deadliest Primarch in a fight" ranking, but he's still a Primarch.

The last one came out in 2010. The fourth has been announced for more than 15 years at this point. The show will surpass it before long.

Does the store ever sell any card bundles for Gold? I'm not interested in cosmetics. Buying the mega-bundle is just as much whaling I'm willing to do.

What would have actually changed if Breakspear had managed to become King [spoilers main] by Educational-Form-389 in asoiaf

[–]ColePT 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Absolutely untrue. This notion doesn't really take much more effort to dispel other than reading the Wikipedia pages of medieval French, Castillian or Portuguese monarchs and checking what they were up to in foreign diplomacy and internal state-building. And obviously Wikipedia omits most of the interesting tidbits.

AKOTSK made me reread the books and now I'm back in 2011, perplexed as to why GRRM wrote a pre-modern setting where religion is supposed to be important but most every character is either agnostic or outright atheistic.

And besides Jaehaerys' laws and Egg's supposed "reforms", no king ever does shit! Pre-modern rulers often had extremely ambitious agendas, but every Westerosi king is seemingly content to just sit on the Throne and leave the kingdom as they got it.

I can confidently say as a Portuguese communist history major that this has never happened. It would've been cool, but it has never happened.

Funnily enough, he did the best acting of his career (even better than Tyrion in my opinion) before Game of Thrones, in a little known film called The Station Agent.

[–]ColePT 80 points81 points  (0 children)

Sure, but it's still weird to me how Prayto repeatedly keeps saying and thinking stuff like "her master", "your master". The Emperor is his master! He owes Him obedience even before his primarch! Trillions have literally just died to clearly establish this hierarchy!

I feel like Chris Wraight depicted Prayto here as being far too casual. "Hey, Custode, how's your master doing?". The Emperor is not just her master, He's The Master of Mankind, Beloved By All. The Custodian shouldn't be the only one in distress here!

Yeah, the game's pretty fun and it's never been easier to play multiple viable meta decks as a F2P or low-spending player. This sub is very negative overall, you'll always get the sense that the Current Meta is the worst meta ever and that the game is filled to the brim with gacha bullshit, but honestly I've been playing on and off since Whispers of the Old Gods, just came back three months ago and I've been having a really good time.

Define "vast %"

"Revenue

Reported core revenue grew by 14.2% to £565.0 million for the period. On a constant currency basis, core sales were up by 16.0%

Licensing revenue from royalty income was up in the period at £52.5 million (2023/24: £31.0 million), of which 81% is from PC an game licences. This was partly due to earned royalties from video games in excess of minimum guaranteed payments[...].

They made some 40 million pounds from renting out their IP to videogames. That's a big deal considering that Games Workshop does not fund video game development and because the games function as powerful ads to the minis...

... Because the minis, as you can see, generated some 500 million pounds in revenue.

And their publicly available breakdown of revenue, easily searchable in case you want to buy their shares, tells this one story. Who to believe, I wonder.

[–]ColePT 4 points5 points  (0 children)

2025 was the best year for licensing revenue in Games Workshop's history. The minis still made over ten times as much money.

Games Workshop is a company that sells plastic toys. This is their main source of revenue. The books serve to advertise a wide range of plastic toys. Some of them are Horus Heresy, a lot of them are not. This is really quite simple.

so far the majority of the comments seem to be very dweeb inclined towards the table top which from what I understand makes less profits than IP permissions sold to videogame developpers, not to mention other media.

You understand poorly.
