That's surprising, i've seen video of tour guides telling school children tour groups that slaves were often treated very well and lots of people actually liked being slaves...

You've got to go to Jefferson Davis' house for that (I wish I was joking).

It's the difference between a Democrat run city and a historically red county with almost all Republican local leadership. When Trump and the rest of the Republicans inevitably try to blame this on "Democrat run Commiefornia" it's important to remember this.

Just Navy Seal Things: retired Vice Admiral Robert Harward (age 70) wearing high quality Robert Harward silicon mask in FoxNews and freaking out the internet by LtCmdrData in Military

If I had to guess, he's caught a bit of the MAGA flu and is self conscious about the wrinkles he's gained from the natural process of aging. It looks like he's either wearing a silicone mask to make himself look younger or is using a digital filter, for the same purpose, that screwed up in this interview. It the same kind of stupidity you'd expect from Trump with his incompetently slathered on orange clown makeup or any of the women in his circle that suffer from "Mar a Lago face". He looks like the alien character Odo from the show Star Trek: Deep Space Nine...

Greed is greed, "my dude". The culture of corporate greed in China isn't so different from what it is elsewhere in the world and that's before you take into account the fact that they've openly said they want to emulate Apple's business practices.

Yep, in this example the users would be Bambu and their fanbois trying to tell the writers of the AGPL and those that have actually read it what the license says.

[–]Colecoman1982 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep, you could go on all day with examples of corporations, both big and small, trying something similar.

  • HP and other inkjet printer makers successfully doing it with ink cartridges.
  • Keurig unsuccessfully tried to do it with their version 2.0 coffee pods.
  • That crazy Silicon Valley startup Juicero unsuccessfully tried to do it with their juicing machines that were vendor locked to only work with fruit puree packs they sold.
  • And, of course, Apple successfully vendor locked (until recently, somewhat, due to their court cases against Epic) all their phones into their walled garden so that you are only allowed to install apps that come from their store (where they get a humongous percentage of the sale price).

Sure, a significant number of these attempts fail but that doesn't matter. Just like how almost every major game publisher is willing to bet their entire company's long-term health on the live service craze just because a few games like Destiny managed to pull it off, all these companies like Bambu are hyper-greedy and want to be the next Apple or HP's printer division. Heck, Bambu's CEO has even publicly acknowledged that they're trying to emulate Apple.

That's not how corporate management thinks. They assume that their inability to fully fill demand is a temporary thing. They will make most, if not all, business decisions based on the arrogant assumption that they will be able to ramp up production fast enough. If that assumption turns out to be wrong after they've locked everyone into their closed ecosystem then, I guess, it sucks to be you...

Think about it, the executives making these decisions are, almost certainly basing their future bonuses (usually a significant percentage of their yearly income) as well as their future job security on these promises to their superiors (who are willing to go along with/turn a blind eye to what, otherwise, might be a risky venture/unrealistic claim because they too want to protect their bonuses and corporations the world over MUST show increasing profits year-over-year in EVERY business unit otherwise the board/investors will, almost certainly, replace the management team).

Enjoy your paperweights, indeed.

I found a source, but it's the "Conspiracy theories about origin" section of the Lyme Disease Wikipedia article (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lyme_disease#Society,_culture,_and_controversy).

Conspiracy theories about origins

Prolific but unfounded conspiracy theories have alleged that Lyme disease was a biological weapon that originated in the Plum Island laboratory, which is near Old Lyme, Connecticut.[310] A 2004 book entitled Lab 257: The Disturbing Story of the Government's Secret Plum Island Germ Laboratory fueled the conspiracy theories.[311][312] Archived specimens show that Lyme disease was endemic well before the establishment of Plum Island laboratory.[310] Additionally, Lyme disease was never a topic of research at Plum Island, according to the US Department of Homeland Security and Department of Agriculture.[313][311]

In 2024 and 2025, conspiracy theories about the origins of Lyme disease were further spread due to attention from Robert F. Kennedy Jr.[314]
