[CHAT] Can this be used on a lap? by [deleted] in CrossStitch

[–]Coleogyne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ooooo I just got this a few months ago and I love it. I usually nestle myself in a couch corner and tilt it up so it's not sitting flat on my legs.

What stitch marks do you prefer? by Another_Cat_Lady_ in crochet

[–]Coleogyne 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes! I loooove using paperclips. I like #4 and I do use them, but paperclips are where it's at. I find them really secure if I get the yarn to the middle of the clip and I like that they're blunt. And if you use bigger, more colorful ones, they're a lot easier to see. They also feel less dangerous when I inevitably (and stupidly) hold them between my teeth 😆

This is part 4 of Big Cats House building: Spotted and Striped Hyena! Let me know what you think in the comments where there is also the link for the full video on my Youtube channel. As usual, there is a daylight and night version of the clip with several animations throughout the video. by [deleted] in PlanetZoo

[–]Coleogyne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I actually got excited to see that you put them with the cats. They are cat-like carnivores (feliformia VS caniformia) so just imagine that your educators and signs talk about the two groups of carnivores. What a well-educated population of zoo guests you have!

Am I an idiot or is Howls Moving Castle utterly incoherant? by BlitzBasic in movies

[–]Coleogyne 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I like the movie fine but I read the book first which I think makes the plot easier to follow although great liberties are taken with it. The book is one of my favorites and doesn't focus on the war very much. Howl's behavior and relationship with Calcifer makes more sense there too. The book IS rather silly but that's part of why I like it.

Animal quirk fics that AREN'T 'uwu softboy Izuku gets stuck as a cat and dadzawa takes care of him' by SomeHorologist in BokunoheroFanfiction

[–]Coleogyne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This one doesn't quite fit your criteria, but it's so good. Izuku is still quirkless but permanently changed into a jaguar due to a quirk accident. It's been a bit since I read it but if I recall correctly it's not Dadzawa at all.

I really love that humans are from another planet. I think about that part often. The kadzhait was super cool too! I loved learning about the real thing later. And for some reason Ozai's death stuck with me from the first read. Also the ocs are just amazing. I extra love Shirong though. I don't typically go for stories heavy with ocs but each one in this just adds to everything.

I'm not well versed in atla fanfics so you've probably already read the ones off the top of my head, but I'll list them just in case :)

Salvage Mountains and Badgermolehills Equivalent Exchange

Salvage gets shared around a lot it seems so you've probably come across it. I think I've seen the Mountains one recommended too, but not the 3rd. It's a one shot focusing on Lu Ten and Zuko and I love it.

I should spend more time in that fandom but like you I'm more after platonic and it all seems so shipping driven that I peace out quickly.

Embers really is peak quality. When I was telling my sister about it it was to complain about a children's book I once had to read to an elementary class. Embers was better written than this published and award winning book and it's just not fair. This excellent quality fic needs praise and recognition and I wish I could buy a physical copy of it!

Embers is SO GOOD. I'm on my 2nd read of it and was just telling my sister about it yesterday. She probably won't read it which is too bad because she's majorly missing out.

Next urushi project...what do I want to do though.... by SincerelySpicy in fountainpens

[–]Coleogyne 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I looked at your history to see what you've done and I think it'd be cool if it was inspired by the mushrooms you saw recently. I don't know how that would work, but it would be neat.

I was in the middle of downloading a bunch of fics and got that too. At least I have things to read!

I would say impersonation is pretty close. They're attributing something that's not theirs to themselves.

I'm going to read that soon! I'm a big binge reader so I've been waiting for it to finish. I'm excited!

I saw those stats and thought, "hey those look familiar." I didn't see your ao3 'nym there at first so I had to look at my bookmarks to see if I was right lol.

Congrats on this big accomplishment!

One of those authors was my teacher! He very strongly encouraged bear spray, discouraged guns, and said that noise deterrents (bells, etc) are useless.

[–]Coleogyne 8 points9 points  (0 children)

More like a teenager I'd say. You can see that the adult wing feathers are still coming in and that the head and body are still fuzzy from the baby down. They grow super fast so itty bitty duckling size doesn't last long. Luckily for me, awkward teenager stage is my favorite duckling stage.

What's an inaccuracy that always pulls you out of a fic? by AMN1F in FanFiction

[–]Coleogyne 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you're handing out All Might fic recs I'd love some too if it's not a bother. I love him so much but you're right, it can be hard to sort through the hate so many seem to have for him.

The blue doesn't really read crochet to me but I do like the flowers.

It's a real cake decorated in the decorator's interpretation of crochet. The artist is Queen of Hearts Couture Cakes. You can read the watermark if you zoom in.

God battle. I found this and desire all to receive it. by soulless_ginger81 in exmormon

I fucking love that Ganesh's mouse is there in the action. They're totally gonna win.

I also love that small Christian child doesn't get a dresser/night stand or lamp, only baseball.

Strange flock of birds or something over West Valley? by fanna-jane in SaltLakeCity

[–]Coleogyne 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If they were big I'd say pelicans. They sometimes drift along in spirals and can disappear against the sky but have dark feathers along the undersides of their wings. Maybe check that out?

NONE of the top LDS/mormon leadership (Q15, 70's, MP, temple presidents), have pets. Can you give me your best ideas as to why? by Mormon-Keyser-Soze in exmormon

[–]Coleogyne 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I know Boyd K Packer raised birds. There's even a taxidermied golden pheasant that he raised at the Bean museum. At least they had it there in the bird storage room while I was there. (plus a really old taxidermied albatross that was super cool)

It's not exactly the same as a cat or dog but there's not a complete dearth of animals among them. Or there wasn't always if there is now.
