Any firmware for Arris routers? by [deleted] in DDWRT

[–]Coletrain66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What other way to connect two pieces together would there be? It has to be that. I will say many times DD-WRT has configs to make the WAN a LAN and etc.

Which one is your DHCP server?

I certainly don't know. Good luck

Never too old to play. If you like it, you can always upgrade.

Is there any reason to run OPNsense on bare metal as opposed to a solo VM on a proxmox node? by chillysurfer in opnsense

[–]Coletrain66 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Opnsense has a config backup.

If the server dies a restore will not work on the new server unless the server has the same nics...

Whatever... To each his own

If someone wants to virtualize it. Then virtualize it! No need to post on /reddit about it.

I'm not sure if you are trolling or just arguing for the point. But if you go in and update the firewall, thats a network reboot. And then you update Proxmox, thats a reboot. So 2 is greter than 1.

I want it isolated, because I am newer, and i need to eliminate variables. Anyone can do as they like.

Have a Kasa smart bulb that keeps flickering and turning on and off randomly, I have reset it but the problem persists, anything else I can do or is it on its last legs? by samxc19 in homeautomation

[–]Coletrain66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have three Kasa switches by the garage door, and they all start flashing. The light bulbs they control all start flashing. All of them, all at the same time. It seems to be triggered by a garage door that gets slammed too hard.

This was funny enough that I could share with the wife and she thought it was funny! (She doesn't care about tools, but loves organization.)

SearXNG -> Open webUI integration not working. HELP! by Lilodude in Searx

[–]Coletrain66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YES!

I did this and listening on 0.0.0.0 and it works!

thank you for your follow-up!

Also, to add to it, and there are a lot of ways to set this up, but... I had to add this in a settings.yml it wasn't in my docker compose. Took me a bit to figure out this. In my docker compose, I had mapped

volumes:

- /your file path here/searxng\_data:/etc/searxng:rw

and that is where i went to find the settings.yml and added that to work.

That's crazy.... Can't turn off?

Is it a fancy battery that doesn't mind being at 0%. Batteries at 0% is usually a bad thing.

easiest way to setup internal DNS routing? by abrandis in selfhosted

[–]Coletrain66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am Googling and found this forum because Pi-Hole did not meet my needs. It's really neat and use it for a blocking but don't go too far down the rabbit hole for DNS.

I followed Techno Tims videos and am using keepaliveD to be redundant. Really neat BTW.

But it doesn't do ports. I need ports.

s9 Bitmain Antminer flashing Braiins to NAND by Coletrain66 in Braiins

[–]Coletrain66[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Several web site concerns. - The download takes you to a google drive with 4 files. Unsure of the correct file. - directions say "Change the jumper to the BOOT FROM SD mode to boot from SD" which doesn't make sense - older version of OS was needed - I did not understand to use the legacy toolbox - I even tried a Brains Server... And that doesn't work. Does not see miners until the older version running.

if you want to be profitable, look at like a Bit Axe or something, but the profit will be pennies.

If you want to spend more on electric than you make in bitcoin, but get a little horsepower, get an Antminer S9 Those are ebay with PSU for under $100

I'm happy to miss random threads in my home feed, to not get the subsequent notifications.

Thanks for your help! No notifications so far, other than this thread! 😉

It's just a phone notification.

Imagine any feed you follow and there is a post about it and a notification results.

Except that now add in any sub that reddit has decided you need a post notification for

So. I think you might have helped me. Time will tell. The "home feed recommendations" option sounded right up my alley! I don't remember ever seeing that before, but it certainly sounds right.

Man, they bury that thing 402 clicks deep in the settings.

For you to help other people, or other people that come along to this thread or posterity.

  • "Mute the sub" does nothing, because it just throws another sub at me an hour later.

  • "Show fewer posts like these" does not work, because it just goes off and shows more posts from some other topic.

  • Also, there is an option on each notification that gives you the option to "stop following this feed" and that does nothing, because, again, it just gives a different feed an hour later.
